see the big picture.
Great point - there are many factors at play, but they are often only presented individually (bad, or good) to make a point (I wasn't trying to drive a point, I was actually fishing for the rest of the labor force info). I'll admit, I'm braindead at the end of a particularly life sucking week (hence this escape to CEPS). I am failing to connect the unemployment rate with the Gov't deficit. In my mind, employment is an important factor on it's own - is America at work, producing goods and sustaining families? Is the economy working for the people?
I see the budget as "where does the gov't spend it's money and is it overspending compared to what it makes?" Unless it is employing the masses, which I believe we've seen a reduction in gov't employment (though I can't cite it) and an increase in wages in general (again, not seeing how that ties to budget either). Gov't is a decreasing employer, not a consumer of the goods produced (on a noticeable level, I believe), so how is gov't overspending effecting employment? Can you help me connect the deficit to employment levels?
Focusing on budgets and deficits in general, does anyone believe it will get smaller? I think nobody expects it under Trump. But looking further out, I personally can't see the budgets ever getting smaller (though their growth may be held back at best), and I'm not seeing any politician proposing, much less capable, of running a surplus. There's way more being promised to the people from both sides to ever be effectively supported, IMO.
