The 2018 Trump Presidency thread

Ok I srs gotta ask, are ppl here actually serious about being spooked by all the fascist influx, or is that just an over reaction to nothing?

I gotta say, I cant say there is a rise in fascism, in fact not much of anything really except a lot of anti Trump talk, hes not a fascist .

Theres a difference between a calculating, deliberate and planned fascist (Hitler, Stalin) and a bumbling oaf (Trump, Pauline Hanson).

I'm asking as I stumbled across an article I'll put in the meme thread, apparently it's a common fear, well, maybe, or maybe more of the same over reaction except in Aussie politics.

I dont think any country nowadays is a tually capable of being anything but inept and stupid.

Wars are not fought in trenches, the internet has allowed worldwide communication so it can be seen as a bad thing and recruiting fascists but srs cut the world population some credit. I dont think panicking about fascism now will result in less fascists, instead of doing that come up with an alternate plan for getting the opposition to have much better candidates and policies that work instead?

Federal Judge Sides With CNN, Orders White House To Reinstate Jim Acosta

A Federal judge ruled Friday morning that CNN White House correspondent Jim Acosta should be allowed to do his job, directing the White House to reinstate the Secret Service “hard pass” that serves as Acosta’s credentials to enter the White House complex. The pass was revoked last week after President Trump became angry under questioning from Acosta at a nationally-televised news conference. The president called Acosta was “a rude, terrible person” who “shouldn’t be working for CNN.”

Later, Acosta’s credentials were revoked–the first time any journalist covering the president has had their press pass terminated. CNN and Acosta sued, claiming violations of the reporter’s First and Fifth Amendment rights, with multiple journalism and free speech groups expressing support. Even rival Fox News said Wednesday it would file a friend of the court brief backing CNN’s lawsuit.

The White House Correspondents Association filed an amicus briefsupporting CNN, arguing that “the ability of the press to question vigorously and regularly elected officials and to report freely on the activities of these officials is fundamental to our democracy,” and that allowing Trump to ban reporters he finds “rude” or “fake news” or simply those reporters with which he disagrees, is dangerous to democracy.

“The White House is the People’s House, and the First Amendment does not permit the President to pick and choose which journalists do—and do not—cover him there…WHCA urges the Court to grant CNN the relief that it seeks and, in doing so, to roundly reject the President’s dangerous legal position.”

The judge in the case, Timothy J. Kelly, was appointed to the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia by Trump. Judge Kelly did not rule on the merits of CNN’s case. But he did grant CNN’s request for an immediate restraining order, which could force the White House to give Acosta access immediately.

ABC News’ Karen Travers reports the White House plans to reinstate Acosta–temporarily. “Today, the court made clear that there is no absolute First Amendment right to access the White House,” reads a statement. “In response to the court, we will temporarily reinstate the reporter’s hard pass. We will also further develop rules and processes to ensure fair and orderly press conferences in the future. There must be decorum at the White House.”

The underlying press freedom case could take months, but CNN says the judge, in issuing his restraining order, did suggest the network and Acosta would ultimately prevail. For now, the return of Acosta to the front row in the White House briefing room sets up the potential of a will-he-or-won’t-he moment for Trump: will he call on Acosta, or try and ignore him? Reporters who have covered Trump say the president is not likely to act as if nothing has happened, which may lead to a comment, a tweet, or a full-on lecture the next time they are face to face.

No matter what unfolds at the next news conference or press gaggle, Acosta has become a target for the president’s most die-hard supporters, who have embraced the president’s language that Acosta was “rude” and undeserving of access to the president. Already, as Politico reports Friday, the Trump re-election campaign is fundraising on Jim Acosta:

“CNN is SUING President Trump, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, a Secret Service agent, and other White House officials…” the fundraising email states. “…All because they REVOKED Jim Acosta’s press badge after his continuous grandstanding and inappropriate refusal to yield to other reporters.”

Everyone around me is hard left.

Not on BL like in real life is what I am saying. BL is a place I can freely express myself and people at least try to understand.

I’m also an insuffrable human being and I am sure that’s part of it. At least hard left leaning people believe in civil rights. *shrugs* I can live with it.
