The 2018 Trump Presidency thread

I'm so curious about Cohen the Fixer's secrets being spilled behind closed doors.

Prosecutors only bargain for bigger fish and with credible evidence. We already know about the hush money. What don't we know?

Ooh I can't wait to find out. Maybe he has a lot more tapes from his tapp. ;)

10,000 human "trafficking" victims, more like people who paid a coyote to smuggle their ass across the border for a better life that they're not going to get now :(

There is an embassy in Mexico along with 9 consulates where legitimate asylum seekers can legally come into the US. There is no excuse to send your children off with a human trafficker to make the dangerous, illegal trip across the border.

I can't believe anyone would argue FOR human trafficking.

80% Of Central American Women, Girls Are Raped Crossing Into The U.S.

Women crossing the U.S. border face sexual assault with little protection
https://www.pbs.org/newshour/nation/facing-risk-rape-migrant-women-prepare-birth-control

And then some people wonder why ICE separate children from their "guardians" to check whether they are even their relatives at all.

There is no excuse

What if you were rejected once, twice, etc? The Mexican government deliberately tells its citizens how to hop the border, encourages them to do so as their state can't afford its own health insurance. Some people already were ejected from the states in a haphazard matter and being smuggled in is their only option.

Being a human shouldn't be a crime.

Yep - trump's war on immigrants has caused untold human suffering.

He's a racist piece of shit, which is what his anti-immigrant garbage is all about. It's why neo nazis and all the other hateful incel tiki torch pieces of shit love the bloated moron so much.

It's all about racist hate; i don't give a damn how much they lie and say "trump isn't a racist"
A bit like "trump isn't a traitor", "trump isn't a criminal": fucking bullshit, not worth responding to.
Pretty fucking cowardly, to not even be capable of engaging in an online political discussion in good faith. I don't have much time for liars, especially not racist liars who act as a cheer squad for idiot bully-boy presidents who abuse immigration law enforcement to enforce their fascist agenda. Pretty shameful, if you ask me.

All the more reason i can't wait to see trump join his fascist cronies in prison where he and his family belong.

I've provided evidence and you've failed to disprove it. I remember checking an FBI source and the 2014 numbers from Obama were pretty accurate. Even by going by news headlines, you will find that they are barely comparable.
Obama was never serious about combating human trafficking, after a big wanky event Obama passed legislation which made the minimum sentence for child sex trafficking a $5,000 fine.
Meanwhile, Trump last year signed an EO which allowed him to seize all the assets of anyone involved with human trafficking.

Right after he signed that, Eric Schmidt CEO of Google stepped down. And we're continuing to see an unprecedented number of CEOs resigning and politicians not running for re-election. You'd think their mission would be to stick around and fight Trump, but running away implies they're guilty of serious stuff.

Also let's just hypothetically suppose for a second that those numbers are in fact true. Is that something that you all would support Trump doing? Can we at least come together and support combating human trafficking?

----------------------------------------------

Sealed indictment update: 5,900 new
51,701 entered 10/30/17 through 8/31/18
Average: 5,107 per month
What's normal? 1,077 per 2009 report

I want to know, what's with all these sealed indictments??

Except as I already told you, it's not Obamas, or anyone else's numbers I'm doubting. It's trumps. If you can provide an official source (as opposed to a media outlet thats got a million other articles all about how awesome trump is) that shows that just trumps numbers on that graph are accurate. I'll be far more inclined to think it's true.

Just proving Obamas numbers on the graph are true doesn't prove the others, and trumps is the biggest difference and thus most likely to be wrong.

The idea of praising "human trafficking arrests" is just absurd.

How many of these "human trafficking" arrests have resulted in convictions for people doinng the exploiting, rather than those being exploited?

It seems as though pro-trump propagandists are holding up statistics which demonstrate aggressive immigration law enforcement as a "good thing" in and of itself - which may be true if you have no concern for human rights, justice or the rule of law - but i'm far more inclined to say that use of such statistics to try to praise trump is desperate at best.

It must be hard to find nice things to say about such a childishly stupid, incompetent and embarassing president.

I quite like scottish comedian frankie boyle's assessment of trump; he looks like a guy who would play "the president" in a porno. ;)

I am cynical about the immigration situation over there being nothing but a racist issue.

I can see why there would be racists and racist groups seizing on it as a kind of victory. I can see like any other migratory movement that the asylum seekers do tend to flow from the poorer countries which have access to America ( latinos).

However, I am pretty much in support of borders and a Governments responsibility/right to know and decide for that country how many people it has and basically who they are.

I dont like the whole way border crossers, illegal immigrants and asylum seekers are treated all the same, asylum seekers should be given asylum in a safe area that's decent, processed and accepted or sent home/elsewhere.

I dont think America or any other country people turn up at are in control of who turns up, the obvious majority would be coming from Mexico or through Mexico and keeping that border secure is no more racist than the Canadian border, it's just where people are going due to location. Trump doesn't control who actively seeks to go to the States by foot, boat or Visa overstayers but would have hand in migrants and asylum seekers through the UN like Australia, New Zealand and Canada do. We take skilled workers first, those with family ties, first.

Trump being racist, I dont know, I can't see him as a person who would actively promote racist views, can see why others see him as a racist, fine.

Trump. I can't stand the guy, dont know who our latest PM is, they're all the same who cares, they have a responsibility to their country first. Having an influx of poor unskilled people with no Visa, no way to start contributing to the economy themselves straight away- costs money. It's all well and good to preach open borders and accepting a flood of people who want a better life, cool, that doesn't occur magically , the economy needs to support its population.

If anyone can come up with a feasible e economic plan to absorb the entire population of countries like Syria of Venezuela without lowering the quality of life for existing and voting citizens then run for office.

This is a Trump related post, on topic, I'm posting it

Fix their countries with international cooperation and donations. If people yelled and protested about stopping wars/rebuilding countries as much as they did for the free influx of immigrants, I would take them a lot more seriously. People generally want to live in their own countries if their quality of life is adequate, they don't want to come to your Western cesspools out of necessity.

Except as I already told you, it's not Obamas, or anyone else's numbers I'm doubting. It's trumps.
The Google doc is linked with a complete list of the busts. Pick one of the dates, put the date into google with "human trafficking" and then you'll be able to read the corresponding (local news, never national) articles. Repeat with each one, that's how you can see that those numbers are in fact legitimate. That's factual evidence, and the number of victims saved is actually unknown. It's easier to prove Trump's numbers than Obama's.

Many people did not want to accept that child sex trafficking has been institutionalized and state-sponsored (see murdered whistleblower/senator Nancy Schaefer), and even less people want to admit that Trump is seriously going after this problem within the government. Because if it is true and the public finally finds out - then people will be flocking to support Trump in droves and he will be considered a hero. People are very protective over children.

The idea of praising "human trafficking arrests" is just absurd.
I don't even know how to respond to this.
Are you anti-human trafficking, sex slavery, pedophilia?
If you are then you will indeed praise human trafficking arrests. The fact that you will dismiss this simply because it's Trump is morally reprehensible and beyond my comprehension.

Why is everyone assuming that these arrests are of illegal immigrants crossing the border? There was a bust in Jan 2017 (the largest so far in the US) which netted 1,500 suspects in California. These busts are happening all over the country. 11+ mayors have already gone down for sexual/pedo assaults. Police chiefs are getting busted. The rot is systemic and goes high up the ladder (the question is how high).

Pretty fucking cowardly, to not even be capable of engaging in an online political discussion in good faith.
The irony and projection is palpable. All you do is flame. You don't offer coherent arguments, facts, statistics. I've refuted many of your points countless times with facts and you just continue to spout your baseless accusations. You are well within your rights to rant, but then claiming others are incapable of engaging in an online political discussion (I assume I am one of the people you are referring to), when I am staying calm and offering facts, statistics and a valid argument, is just the most obvious example of hypocritical projection I have ever witnessed.

I'm really interested as to which sources you get your news from (if you follow the news at all).

Lets just all settle down a bit and remember that absolutely nothing we do or say here will make any difference whatsoever. We're just having a bit of a chinwag. Its good to be passionate but not at the expense of civility.

@zephyr: aside from what CH is pointing out, which i agree with cause that's life, you put that very simply and eloquently. well said.

I'm a big fan of Bob Woodward, so the reports today on the contents of his new book on Trump that were in the press today have been pretty interesting.

I have a lot of respect for the people who do the heavy lifting to help expose and bring down corrupt politicians.
Journalists are an essential part of any healthy democracy - as everyone vaguely interested in democracy seems to be aware of.

Woodward seems to give the impression that trump is an unhinged and dangerously unintelligent liability - which really is just further confirmation of what most of us have suspected all along. Definitely troubling, so i hope he's not got long to go before he is impeached or indicted.

Given the lack of loyalty within his own staff - leaks, backstabbing and constant resignations and firing - and how few friends or credible political allies the racist cretin has left, i suspect his days are numbered.
He's dug himself a massive hole, and i doubt anyone is foolish enough to ruin their own reputation trying to get him out of it.

Donald Trump called an 'idiot' by aides, denied access to sensitive documents, new book claims

new book by a reporter who helped bring down former US president Richard Nixon is roiling the White House, with current and former aides of President Donald Trump quoted as calling him an "idiot" and admitting they snatched sensitive documents off his desk to keep him from taking rash actions.

The book by Washington Post journalist Bob Woodward is the latest to throw the Trump administration into damage-control with explosive anecdotes and concerns about the commander in chief.

The Post on Tuesday (local time) published details from Fear: Trump in the White House, the Watergate reporter's forthcoming examination of Mr Trump's first 18 months in office.

Publication of Woodward's book has been anticipated for weeks, and current and former White House officials estimate that nearly all their colleagues cooperated with the famed Watergate journalist.

The White House, in a statement from press secretary Sarah Sanders, dismissed the book as "nothing more than fabricated stories, many by former disgruntled employees, told to make the President look bad".

The book says chief of staff John Kelly had doubts about Mr Trump's mental faculties, and declared during one meeting, "we're in Crazytown".

It also says he called Mr Trump an "idiot," an account that Mr Kelly denied.

"The idea I ever called the President an idiot is not true," Mr Kelly said in a statement.

The book says that Mr Trump's former lawyer in the Russia probe, John Dowd, doubted the President's ability to avoid perjuring himself should he be interviewed in special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian election interference and potential coordination with Mr Trump's campaign. Mr Dowd stepped down in January.

"Don't testify. It's either that or an orange jumpsuit," Mr Dowd is quoted telling the President.

Mr Dowd, in a statement, said "no so-called 'practice session' or 're-enactment'" took place, and denied saying that Mr Trump was likely to end up in an orange jumpsuit.

Secretary of Defence Jim Mattis is quoted explaining to Mr Trump why the US maintains troops on the Korean Peninsula to monitor North Korea's missile activities.

"We're doing this in order to prevent World War III," Mr Mattis said, according to the book.

The book recounts that Mr Mattis told "close associates that the President acted like — and had the understanding of — 'a fifth- or sixth-grader'".

But in a statement, Mr Mattis said "the contemptuous words about the President attributed to me in Woodward's book were never uttered by me or in my presence".

"While I generally enjoy reading fiction, this is a uniquely Washington brand of literature, and his anonymous sources do not lend credibility."

Mr Mattis said the notion that he would "show contempt" for Mr Trump or "tolerate disrespect" to the office of the President of the United States "is a product of someone's rich imagination".

Mattis ignored Trump's plea to 'kill' Syrian leader

Woodward reported that after Syria's Bashar Assad launched a chemical weapons attack on civilians in April 2017, Mr Trump called Mr Mattis and said he wanted the Syrian leader taken out, saying, "kill him! Let's go in".

Mr Mattis assured Mr Trump he would get right on it, but then told a senior aide they would do nothing of the kind, Woodward wrote. National security advisers instead developed options for the airstrike that Mr Trump ordered.

Woodward also claims that Gary Cohn, the former director of the National Economic Council, boasted of removing papers from the President's desk to prevent Mr Trump from signing them into law, including efforts to withdraw from the North American Free Trade Agreement.

The book also quotes Mr Trump as mocking his Attorney-General Jeff Sessions, who has been a target of the President's wrath since recusing himself from the Russia investigation.

"This guy is mentally retarded," Mr Trump said of Mr Sessions, according to the book.

"He couldn't even be a one-person country lawyer down in Alabama."

Mr Trump did not speak to Woodward until after the book's manuscript was completed.

The Post released audio of Mr Trump expressing surprise about the book in an August conversation with Woodward.
ABC News
Woodward tells Mr Trump he had contacted multiple officials to attempt to interview Mr Trump and was rebuffed.

The book follows the January release of author Michael Wolff's Fire and Fury, which led to a rift between Mr Trump and Steve Bannon, his former chief strategist, who spoke with Wolff in terms that were highly critical of the President and his family.

Wolff's book attracted attention with its vivid anecdotes but suffered from numerous factual inaccuracies.

Woodward's work also comes weeks after former White House aide and Apprentice reality show contestant Omarosa Manigault Newman published an expose on her time in the West Wing, including audio recordings of her firing by Mr Kelly and a follow-up conversation with the President in which he claimed to have been unaware of Mr Kelly's decision.

While White House aides have become increasingly numb to fresh scandals, the book still increased tensions in the West Wing, especially given the intimate details shared and the number of people Woodward appeared to have interviewed.

Some White House officials expressed surprise at the number of erstwhile Trump loyalists willing to offer embarrassing stories of the President and his inner circle.

No clear response strategy emerged immediately after the Post report, but insiders speculated the fallout could be worse than from Fire and Fury, given Woodward's storied reputation.

Scheduled for a September 11 release, Fear was ranked the top-selling book on Amazon on Tuesday.

Mr Trump has been increasingly critical of anonymous sources used by reporters covering his administration.

Woodward's account relies on deep background conversations with sources, meaning their identities are not disclosed.

Former George W Bush press secretary Ari Fleischer defended Woodward's methodology.

"I've been on the receiving end of a Bob Woodward book," he tweeted.

"There were quotes in it I didn't like. But never once — never — did I think Woodward made it up," Mr Fleischer said.

"Anonymous sources have looser lips and may take liberties. But Woodward always plays is straight. Someone told it to him."

Donald Trump said:
Isn't it a shame that someone can write an article or book, totally make up stories and form a picture of a person that is literally the exact opposite of the fact, and get away with it without retribution or cost. Don't know why Washington politicians don't change libel laws?

Trump again said:
The already discredited Woodward book, so many lies and phony sources, has me calling Jeff Sessions "mentally retarded" and "a dumb southerner." I said NEITHER, never used those terms on anyone, including Jeff, and being a southerner is a GREAT thing. He made this up to divide!

same guy said:
The Woodward book has already been refuted and discredited by General (Secretary of Defense) James Mattis and General (Chief of Staff) John Kelly. Their quotes were made up frauds, a con on the public. Likewise other stories and quotes. Woodward is a Dem operative? Notice timing?

So the Kavanaugh hearings were pretty embarrassing..
