Is it safe taking LSD with SSRI'S?

From anecdotal reports it appears to me, that it varies between the different SSRI's how much they decrease the effects of psychedelics. It probably between people too, since we are all built differently. From all the reports found through google, there's clearly some kind of interaction going on.

Obviously, people are alway getting SSRI's prescribed for a reason - that signifies that you're not really in a good place, and when you're not in a good place, it's a big risk taking psychedelics. Not that psychedelics couldn't help - of cause they can - but you're making it a lot more risky.

LSD definitely helped me. On that first trip I experienced the deepest level of contentment that I had felt in years and it helped me identify that a lot of my anxiety is unnecessary. I was on Prozac at the time, I knew that SSRIs soften the trip, so with the assurance of having much more experienced friends around, I split a 10 strip with a friend. This is not HR advice, just my story.

maybe half of the posters in this thread have been on or still are on antidepressants (ssri's). I have never been on them, and all the literature I have read about them as relates to clinical trial test results, indicate that the anti-depressant effect of these drugs is less effective than placebo.
I am sure you can feel an effect especially as they disrupt normal synapse activity but the dots are not scientifically connected to show that this chemistry actually affects depression or anxiety more than placebo. Granted they have an effect and a patient can be encouraged to believe that that effect is antidepressive or anxiolytic (totally placebo except for mental clouding and weight gain).

Only the drug companies are benefiting, and they are raking in money without good medical science behind their encouragement to doctors and psychiatrists, who do need help in MANAGING patients without actually listening to their problems and helping them solve those problems. Doctors have not enough time to help solve the problems of abuse, loneliness, social integration, meaningful work, etc.

Psychedelics can with therapy, help people solve patients' problems of abuse, loneliness, social integration, meaningful work, etc., but SSRI's reduce the efficacy of 5htreceptor locations. Those here who use both have to increase the psychedelic dose, but they lose much of the benefit of healing insight (problem solving) by returning to the SSRI clouded state.

By staying on SSRI's for anxiety or depression, you are not committed to problem solving for abuse, loneliness, social integration, meaningful work, etc, only to cloudiness and weight gain and making drug companies more money.

To be honest, I'm not a big fan of SSRI's, I've never taken them myself, and I never will, but I think it's a fact that some people have found them helpfull, although they've clearly been overprescribed for a long time in western countries.

Of cause psychedelics can be a great tool for self-discovery, but it doesn't come by itself. It takes work, and if you are weak or not in a good place, psychedelics can fuck up your life bad. Really bad.

Although studies at Kings college have shown, that psilocybin, and probably many other psychedelics too, are fantastic at curing depression, people should always remember that it is in a clinical setting. That the exact dose and compound is know, and that the patients were carefully sceened before etc etc. My point is, if you're depressed and want to selfmedicate with psychedelics to cure yourself, there's a big chance it's going to blow up in your face.

That's 100% right, it definitely does require some dedication to to problem solving for abuse, loneliness, social integration, meaningful work, etc., whatever is at the root of the anxiety or depression; and most likely clinical support is part of the required effort and dedication.

Who the fuck is everyone even talking to? OP bailed on this shit and I don't blame him.
A bunch (some, not all) of fucking self important bullies telling some guy who is already fucked up how fucked up he is and that he should unfuck his life before trying psychedelics, c'mon man.
Did you guys do all this shit you're touting before YOUR first trip? Were you mentally ready? doubtful...no one CAN be ready for something they no nothing about especially psychedelics.
Anyway, this all moot so I am outie.

@phuckingnutz, I only exist to trigger you. can't speak for the rest of the crew.

relax.

I'm sorry if it wasn't clear I was commenting on Pupnik's post. The downside of the successful studies on psilocybin is that some people think they can cure their anxiety, depression etc. by taking psychedelics. But there's a good chance it's just going to make it worse. When people come on here asking for advice, I tell them what I think, which is that you shouldn't do drugs while you're on medications for mental issues. If you don't agree with me, that's your problem.

Since you're asking, when I started using psychedelics it was for purely recreational reasons, and I was mentally in a really good place - but that was all just coincedences.

What would you think of someone judging psychedelics use without having tried them personaly?
why then the opinion of anyone about AD without having used them is anything else that prejudicies?
I think we keep forgetting that we are all different and what works for you might not work for me. Not to mention how different is your perception of reality from mine.

Well Pup, if that's so, then I'm sure you wish me well.
Wow, now i feel self important too...thanks Pupnik!

Whatdya mean?...I AM relaxed ;) .

You're right tho, I'll chill.
Besides, I've read myself talking long enough about this as it is.
The OP doesn't care anyway, he's probably curled up in a ball somewhere or strapped to a bed in some filthy psych ward somewhere and it's all my fault...he wasn't ready for psychedelics...Whatt have I done? Oh, the humanity, AAAAAAAHHHHH!!!

So you get off Prozac later after LSD?

Sounds like you just need to read more literature.

And J&J recently released the stage 3 clinical trial results for using S isomer ketamine against depression. Just google esketamine.
Anti depressants and SSRIs are not the same things.

its differnet for everyone but i have taken ssris many times combined with both lsd and mushroom(on seperate occasions) the ssris tend to kill the trip for me

Yeah, totally :) OP is long gone for sure. People don't care about advice, when it's not what they want to hear. People will do what they have to do.

OP is probably tripping on LSD in the woods thinking "Oh shit, there's giant demonic spiders hiding behind those trees that are trying to trap me into a huge web of white lies, I gotta cut them down one by one to survive and find out the truth... god damnit! I don't have an axe... I'm fucked... those 5th dimensional holographic spiders will eat me alive... AAAHHHH!!!".

I did this in high school.

No negative effects. The LSD was purely LSD. I think it would have been stronger if I hadn't been taking SSRI's but who knows for sure right?

Ah yes I do recall how powerful my first real dosing was, my friend remarked he had never seen me happier. Also I should note there was depression following the comedown. Neurotransmitters being manipulated by drugs obviously.

Hmmm.....I must contribute to this SSRI efficacy sub-discussion.....

I will say, that I DO hold much skepticism (to say the least) with most psychiatric drugs.....however, I must admit that I have been on multiple (including some SSRIs and a few other classes).

I will say, as far as SSRIs go, I actually did have considerable success treating symptoms with ONE of them (not much luck at all with the others).....now, yes, perhaps it was placebo....but I do recall waking up everyday excited to start the day and FEELING the sun rising.....of course, this success and benefit slowly evaporated into nothing (it shit out/stopped working).

I don't know whether it was truly treating symptoms or if my mind was doing all the work, but if it was placebo, why did I not experience this in past or future instances trying other medications..? Hmm...

It must have had some effect, just not the one that is being promoted. Then it faded.

I didn't read most of this thread, but I think it's safe and to be honest, I've only done LSD like 5-6 times but every time I have been on Prozac.

I do think it reduces the effect but I don't think it's dangerous and I just plan on dosing higher in the future when I take those kinds of psychs.

I think if something is an MAOI, another SSRI, or strongly serotongeric drug one shouldn't combine an SSRI, but from what I've read LSD doesn't count as one.

Psychs/dissociatives I look forward to trying I doubt will be dangerous (but probably lessened in efficacy by) with my Lexapro include: DMT, 4-ACO-DMT, Mescaline, 2-CB, 2-C-2, Ketamine.

And if you think it's placebo, well, I can't tell you I know for sure, but what I will say is I experienced months of insomnia when coming off Prozac and depression as well but you could blame that on WD and not needing the substance and I can't prove you wrong I'm just concerned with what I might have to go through trying to get off my Lexapro after all these years, but to whoever said you shouldn't take psychs if you are on an SSRI because you aren't "prepared", yeah, that's fucking bullshit.
