The 2018 Trump Presidency thread

^ right. what i don't get is why people are still supporting that? do they want to see chaos?

Yeah they do. Well, there's two things really. His primary enablers are both his base and the politicians in DC that represent his base.

As for his base, they elected him based on his unapologetic hatred of 1. immigrants 2. HRC 3. Obama. Most of them don't follow politics at ALL except for Fox News and talk radio. What they see isn't chaos. It's their guy in the White House trying to drain the swamp and the swamp is fighting back. To the extent that they do see "chaos", they say, well that's why we elected him--to shake things up.

The people that know better...the politicians in DC... what they care about is re-election. As long as they are keeping their most fervent voters satisfied, they don't give a damn about the chaos.

I think a lot of it is a combination between idiotic tribalism (the whole "anti sjw" brigade) and thoughtless resentment - which ironically resulted in giving power to a guy that will only make life harder for the people struggling with the cost of living and the scarcity of stable employment.
I can't see trump lasting another 6 months in the job - he's going to be fucked in the midterms and he's quickly losing any support he had in the GOP.

This shit with cohen using campaign funds to pay hush money is pretty funny.
I knew it would be something deeply pathetic that would bring him down.

Trump's a fucking liar, without a trace of dignity and i think everyone's sick of the bullshit from his base.
I mean, they keep telling us trump is doing a great job - but he's not, and his days are seriously numbered.
The interesting thing will be to see if he goes to prison after he leaves the white house.
I certainly hope so :)

It's a nice thought...imagining Trump being dragged out by his oversized tie. Kicking and screaming like a baby. Crying about fake news.

But just to remind everyone, Trump will not be impeached unless Democrats win a landslide in November. Given the DNC's mismanagement and history of fumbling political opportunities, that is far from guaranteed. Trump voters show up, and they keep chips on their shoulders. The messier this thing gets, the better they will turn out.

But let's say the landslide happens, and Democrats outperform the most optimistic projections. Let's say they succeed in impeaching Trump. All impeachment means is that charges have been brought against him. He has to be actually convicted, which requires 2/3 of the Senate +1, or 67/100 Senators. The House plays no part. 67... ok...

You hear it all the time: The 2018 Senate map is bad, even “brutal,” for Democrats. Of the 35 seats on the ballot this cycle, 26 are held by senators who caucus with the Democrats, and just nine are held by Republicans. Democrats must flip two of those nine — without losing any seats of their own — in order to take a Senate majority. That’s not going to be easy given that only one of those Republican-held seats is from a state carried by Hillary Clinton in 2016. At the same time, 10 Democratic incumbents are running for re-election in states won by President Trump, including deep red ones like North Dakota and West Virginia.

So it's somewhat of a long shot that they will even gain a majority. Even if they do...good luck finding over a dozen Republicans to vote to convict.

The only chance we have is to turn the heat up as much as we possibly can and hope Trump resigns. That's a much more realistic dream to have. But chances are Trump stays right where he is, on his plump white ass, eating Big Macs and tweeting from his gold plated toilet. Until November 2020 when Bernie runs as an independent and kicks his ass =D.

He does seem indifferent to his own shortcomings or failings - just a total absence of self-awareness, but if cohen flips on him, he'd be fucked, right?
That guy knows some shit about trump, it seems safe to assume.

What you say is true BUT....

Tribalism (and resentment) works both ways - plenty on the left won't look at issues but rather, barrack for a team.

The Cohen hush money pales into insignificance when compared to the shonky deals of the Clintons

The others are liars, too.

I hope you are right and he doesn't last another 6 months but I doubt it. For one, there would need to be viable opposition, and even more concerning, I think he is increasing in popularity (lack of viable opposition is helping there, too).

Trump's got that much money and been through that many legal battles, and he stupidly used campaign funds to pay off Corny McDaniels?
That's what they expect to get him on?

These are delay tactics, while they try and come up with a charge. They are also trying to impede his agenda as much as possible. What’s disgusting and scary is that they can use the power of the Justice Dept to keep this charade going. I’m getting really annoyed, at some point he needs to fire sessions and put someone in place to fire mueller and rosenstien. He said he was going to drain the swamp, let’s start with the DOJ. Fire all of the long time bureaucrats as as humanly possible. Also did you see that judge that’s taking over the DACA legal case? He’s definitely going to rule that DACA should end, finally.

Yes! Please let this happen!

he flatly denied knowing about a hush payment. now giuliani says he was aware. one of them is lying.

you'd think , at this level, they'd be able to get their story straight...

Most of the corrupt FBI brass at the top have been fired. It's happening. ISIS boss John McCain just announced he was quitting senate for good (he also made a trip to Syria recently for undisclosed reasons). Paul Ryan stepped down. The swamp is draining, slowly but surely.
Once the FBI & DOJ have been cleaned then any planned arrests can happen. There are also 25,000+ sealed indictments sitting around, according to the Pacer.

This little McDaniels saga seems so ridiculous that I'm going to throw out another possible theory:
This could be a distraction,
Or could this be a clever way to introduce evidence? Let's say that in Cohen's office there is something sensitive, for eg Clinton's 650,000 lost emails (that were never truly lost), but in order for them to be useful they must be legally admissible as evidence. How to do that? Raid Cohen's office, everything seized can be then used.
I find it very hard to believe that individuals as seasoned as Trump and Cohen did something as dumb as this. It's not illegal to pay a pornstar hush money right? The only issue is the campaign funds?
Also the Dems now filed a lawsuit against Wikileaks, the Russian government (lol) and some members of the Trump campaign (but not Trump himself). If the Mueller investigation fizzles, this is a way to keep a civil case going, but I don't know what the Dems are up to here because this could potentially expose them as it would lead to discovery.

Also, if this Stormy issue is so serious how about nailing Clinton for using her campaign funds to pay a foreign spy for fake peepee intel from the Russians?
It might just be me but that seems a tad more serious than paying some hooker.

Reuters Poll: Black Male Approval For Trump Doubles In One Week
http://dailycaller.com/2018/05/02/reuters-poll-black-male-approval-for-trump-doubles-in-one-week/

Black male support for President Donald Trump doubled in just one week, according to a Reuters poll on presidential approval.

A poll taken on April 22, 2018 had Trump?s approval rating among black men at 11 percent, while the same poll on April 29, 2018 pegged the approval rating at 22 percent. It should be noted that Reuters only
sampled slightly under 200 black males each week and slightly under 3,000 people overall.

Trump experienced a similar jump in approval among black people overall, spiking from 8.9 percent on April 22 to 16.5 percent on April 29.

Black males were also far more likely to say that they had ?mixed feelings? about the president. On the 22nd, 1.5 percent said they had mixed feelings, while 7.1 percent said the same on the 29th.

The results are interesting given the recent transformation of Kanye West, who posted a picture of himself wearing a Make America Great Again hat on his Twitter account last week.

What Blue Wave? Senate Polls Show Generic GOP Sweeping Democrat Incumbents from Office

For all the media hype about a ?Blue Wave? sweeping Republicans from power in this November?s House and Senate mid-term elections, a comprehensive Morning Consult poll shows a Republican wave in the making in U.S. Senate elections across the country with five Democrat incumbents decisively losing by at least five percent and four other Democrat incumbents in statistical ties. Naturally, the poll has been ignored by much of the mainstream media.

yeah yeah polls are terrible

^ Some say recognizing NK as a sovereign nation and agreeing to a meeting defeats our policy we have been setting over the last decades using soft power to make NK bend to our will. They made this meeting happen with zero concessions of their own. Playing devils advocate here grimez. How would you respond to that criticism?

Also how would you respond to the fact that there has actually been NO progress made at all?

As in zero progress.

Trump is being played by a murderous despot who has not and will never get rid of his nukes.

but but somebody else did something bad...

It might just be me but that seems a tad more serious than paying some hooker.
the initial act always pales in comparison to the cover-up and the lies.
