"The Problem With Calling Trump a Racist"- Rolling Stone

Antifa terrorism eh?
I must have missed that. I didn't realise anti-racists had escalated to using lethal force. :\
(They havent - the only terrorists were the people calling for a "white ethnostate")

I really dislike the cheap trumpism of comparing fascists to anti-racist demonstrators. Whether its tactics or ideology, it's simply a lie to say that people defending their town from a mob of neo-fascists are somehow morally relative to the people marching around with flaming torches and chanting nazi slogans.

I don't think everything anti-fascists do is justified.
But i think people need to stand up against neo-fascist violence.
Claiming that both sides are somehow equally to blame is telling; i've spoken to a lot of trump fans online who are apologists for "alt-right" neo-nazi violence, and you seem to be going down a similar path.
Why do you think so many of the far right people in charlottesville were wearing red trump hats?
Why do you think so many alt-right bros worship trump?

there is nothing ok about violent right wing extremists forming mobs to intimidate and attack people, and claiming some kind of moral equivalence between both sides is just another trump lie.
The one thing c'ville did was force people to stop ignoring the huge rise of hate groups in the trump era.

Well, there was WW2, when my grandparents' generation didn't bother to whinge about whether or not it was appropriate to punch nazis... that was for sanitized comic book fantasies like Captain America. Back then, the correct way to deal with fascists was considered to be a bit more like: "Drop high explosives on them by the tonne from B17s and Lancasters." or, if you care to get a bit more up close and personal: "Cut out their living goddamned guts and use them to grease the treads of our tanks."

It's a bloody shame that more of that generation isn't still around to deal with the likes of trump and the Charlottesville people.

Terrorism doesn't have to be lethal - it's politically-motivated violence.
If a neonazi thug comes and punches me in the face because I'm not white and I'm anti-nazi = that's terrorism
If a masked antifa thug punches me in the face because he doesn't like what I'm saying or i'm wearing the wrong hat = THAT'S ALSO TERRORISM.
You don't actually have to pick a side, you can despise both neonazi & antifa terrorists.
I can be completely anti-nazi while also being completely against the methods of antifa.
Yes, I can.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...-agencies-homeland-security-fbi-a7927881.html
US security officials have classified the left-wing group Antifa as "domestic terrorists", confidential documents have revealed.
There's no debate here. Antifa are a terrorist group. If you support them, you support terrorism. I don't care what your justification is. There are terrorists out there that think they are "freedom fighters" or "anti fascists". I've seen some of the people that antifa claim are fascists and it's laughable. Shutting down free speech is fascist. If you counter political speech with violence - YOU ARE A TERRORIST.

I really dislike the cheap trumpism of comparing fascists to anti-racist demonstrators.
Nothing to do with trumpism to compare violence with violence. Justifying your violence is sick. Denounce all political violence or be classed as a terrorist. The definitions are simple.

Whether its tactics or ideology, it's simply a lie to say that people defending their town from a mob of neo-fascists are somehow morally relative to the people marching around with flaming torches and chanting nazi slogans.
lol buddy, call the police... We don't need antifa superheroes to save the day.
how often do we see neonazi rallies? Name one apart from charlottesville that happened recently.
I've mostly seen antifa shut down conservative (and often liberal) speakers.

But i think people need to stand up against neo-fascist violence.
Call the police.
The police need to stand up against all political violence: neo-fascist and left-wing antifa

Claiming that both sides are somehow equally to blame is telling; i've spoken to a lot of trump fans online who are apologists for "alt-right" neo-nazi violence, and you seem to be going down a similar path.
What the fuck did you just say to me? Did you just infer that I was alt-right or a neo-nazi after I called out their violence and labeled them terrorists??
Why did you say that? Is that because you want to put me into a group that you feel justified in attacking, verbally and physically?
You know what's worse than a terrorist? A terrorist that doesn't even know who he's fighting against and can arbitrarily group anyone as his enemy.

there is nothing ok about violent right wing extremists forming mobs to intimidate and attack people, and claiming some kind of moral equivalence between both sides is just another trump lie. The one thing c'ville did was force people to stop ignoring the huge rise of hate groups in the trump era.
"My violence is OK. That guy's violence isn't"
This is sick.

Donald Trump racist? He won an award for diversity and tolerance, has a history of being fine with people of all races/sexes/sexual orientations, etc. including immigrants, and has done more to bring American people together than the extremely racist Obamas and Clintons ever did or will.

Nobody ever falsely claimed that Donald Trump is racist until he ran for president.

Trump... Brought America together.. Trump....

Donald Trump... The one who's president. That trump. That's the person you're saying has done so much to bring America together?

God help us if he ever tries to be divisive then.

you can say a lot of things about trump but he's "done more to bring American people together"?

humour me, alpha_centauri, what's he done to bring people together?

alasdair

Well... I can think of a few people here I wildly disagree with but whom I feel closer to for our mutual hatred of trump.

So.. There's that. He can bring together those of us who hate him more than we hate each other. :)

What?!?! Contrary to what one (apparently) might think, Trump has been a racist for a long time. Oops.

Consider the first time the president?s name appeared on the front page of the New York Times, more than 40 years ago. ?Major Landlord Accused of Antiblack Bias in City,? read the headline of the A1 piece on Oct. 16, 1973, which pointed out how Richard Nixon?s Department of Justice had sued the Trump family?s real estate company in federal court over alleged violations of the Fair Housing Act.

?The government contended that Trump Management had refused to rent or negotiate rentals ?because of race and color,?? the Times revealed. ?It also charged that the company had required different rental terms and conditions because of race and that it had misrepresented to blacks that apartments were not available.? (Trump later settled with the government without accepting responsibility.)

Over the next four decades, Trump burnished his reputation as a bigot: he was accused of ordering ?all the black [employees] off the floor? of his Atlantic City casinos during his visits; claimed ?laziness is a trait in blacks? and ?not anything they can control?; requested Jews ?in yarmulkes? replace his black accountants; told Bryan Gumbel that ?a well-educated black has a tremendous advantage over a well-educated white in terms of the job market?; demanded the death penalty for a group of black and Latino teenagers accused of raping a jogger in Central Park (and, despite their later exoneration with the use of DNA evidence, has continued to insist they are guilty); suggested a Native American tribe ?don?t look like Indians to me?; mocked Chinese and Japanese trade negotiators by doing an impression of them in broken English; described undocumented Mexican immigrants as ?rapists?; compared Syrian refugees to ?snakes?; defended two supporters who assaulted a homeless Latino man as ?very passionate? people ?who love this country?; pledged to ban a quarter of humanity from entering the United States; proposed a database to track American Muslims that he himself refused to distinguish from the Nazi registration of German Jews; implied Jewish donors ?want to control? politicians and are all sly negotiators; heaped praise on the ?amazing reputation? of conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, who has blamed America?s problems on a ?Jewish mafia?; referred to a black supporter at a campaign rally as ?my African-American?; suggested the grieving Muslim mother of a slain U.S. army officer ?maybe ? wasn?t allowed? to speak in public about her son; accused an American-born Hispanic judge of being ?a Mexican?; retweeted anti-Semitic and anti-black memes, white supremacists, and even a quote from Benito Mussolini; kept a book of Hitler?s collected speeches next to his bed; declined to condemn both David Duke and the Ku Klux Klan; and spent five years leading a ?birther? movement that was bent on smearing and delegitimizing the first black president of the United States, who Trump also accused of being the founder of ISIS.

Oh and remember: we knew all of this before he was elected president of the United States of America. He was elected in spite of all this (yet another reminder that ?not all Trump supporters are racist, but all of them decided that racism isn?t a deal-breaker?).

Donald Trump has been a racist all his life - and he isn't going to change after Charlottesville

Lots of links in the article for you.

Here's another one:
Is Donald Trump Racist? Here's What the Record Shows

If you don't know Trump is still a racist from his straight white male Cabinet picks to his constant tweets and statements attacking any minority from black people to Mexicans to legal immigrants from "shitholes" like Africa and Haiti, then you just aren't ever going to see it.

It's at the point of being bizarre. He's a racist. And he's old and has no curiosity about anything. He's not going to evolve.

Just a taste:
Donald Trump?s Racism: The Definitive List

Does it really matter ? Seriously. Comparatively speaking, BL had a racist mysogynist homophobe as smod and frequent poster in CEP. Hes not around anymore but there were many a complaint about that side to him but he seemed to be a valued member of staff. Ali seened to like working with him. So really whats it to you guys ?

Isnt all this hoo haa a bit hypocritical?

Especially since you guys really seem so hateful yourselves?

Oh man......

Grimez is easily the smartest poster here, I haven?t seen a single person able to refute his points.

I can?t wait till Trump reunites the Korean Peninsula. What an amazing president so far!

Kinda reminds me of when I've heard religious types say "science has never been able to disprove God!".

I generally just ignore it.

Except I'm not arguing the existence of God, I remain as factual as possible.
You can destroy most leftist narratives these days by simply using only mainstream media sources (a democrat journalist named H.A. Goodman does an excellent job of this). It's not easy to keep track of and stay on top of so many lies, the entire ball of corruption is slowly unraveling. Just look at Trump, anything dishonest or even slightly misleading that he has said is repeatedly brought up here as evidence of him being a bad person. The content and context of those statements are ignored, as is any and all dishonesty emanating from the side arguing against Trump, even if said lies are infinitely worse and actually involve or cover-up illegal activity.

EG: "Flynn must be prosecuted for lying to the FBI about a phone call that was legal, however Clinton, Abedin and Mills should not be prosecuted for lying to the FBI concerning the evidence of verifiable felonies".
Let's also ignore that the same FBI agent was involved in all of those interviews, and we have text messages of him affirming his extreme anti-Trump and pro-Clinton bias.

OR

Hillary Clinton's mentor being ex-KKK, Hillary calling black youth "super predators", pushing 90s crime legislation that destroyed black families = NOT racist. Stop bringing this up!
(if Trump is racist then Hillary is fucking racist).

Thank you but I'm not remarkably smart, I am just honest and flexible when it comes to new information (and know how to ask the right questions). Changed my stance before, will again and I would never ignore justice at the expense of winning or pushing an ideological agenda. That's how people get tricked into supporting wars and genocide.
I can?t wait till Trump reunites the Korean Peninsula. What an amazing president so far!
It will be glorious. A peaceful Korean peninsula appears to be an imminent reality. Who would've thought. I actually wrote on Nov 9, 2016 that Trump would win a Nobel Peace Prize, but I assumed it would have been due to improving confrontational relations with Russia (enter collusion conspiracy theory to nip that in the bud). What's next after calming North Korea? Some say Iran.

The cognitive dissonance must be staggering among Trump supporters.
Projection.
Remember when everyone was convinced Trump had zero chance to be president? Or that he would be removed almost immediately? Or that stocks would tank if he won? Or that the world would end? Or that (insert fearmongering, widely-inaccurate liberal prediction)?

Or how about how the media loved Trump for decades as a celebrity/democrat and we never heard one peep about him being allegedly racist?
Enter the world of politics > threaten the interests of the establishment/their media buddies = get smeared and slandered.
A huge number of people aren't buying it, resulting in him receiving more minority votes than the last GOP candidate (who was never slandered as racist) and currently improving the lives of all Americans including a sizable minority population.

blindly following anyone (especially Trump) is dangerous and ignorant. If one thing is missing in politics today it is accountability and self-reflection.
I'm under no illusions that Trump could "turn Hitler" at any moment.
Maybe his election was a big farce to get people's hopes up and keep them distracted (ala Obama '08)
Maybe Trump IS fighting a war against the Deep State/War Machine but he wasn't prepared for what he got into and he won't actually succeed at beating them (imo most likely scenario)

As for NK/SK - it happened under Trump's watch, he was involved somehow, he will get credit (or blame) for however it turns out.
Clinton, BushW & Obama had 8 years EACH to get this fixed. If Trump gets it done in less than 2 it is no coincidence.
