I came back home late at night, eyes burning from working the midnight oil. Hoping I could catch up on some e-zines or w/e before I go to bed... So I wake my computer from its sleep and BLAM the radiating blue glow of the monitor shines up the whole landscape.

Even with my monitor turned all the way down on its brightness, it still wasn't good enough. So I went off to search for an app. Just like my smart phone has a dimmer toggle, I found f.lux after a keyword search into google: "monitor dimmer" and it was the first result.

583Kb later, my monitor is a warm 3400K that'll fluctuate in hue as the 24-hour clock goes by. Thought I'd share?

my display is orange now !! XD

i love it! but watching tv shows at bedtime is now slightly compromised, which is probably a good thing

edit: found movie mode, found dark room mode too! epic

Would probably have to be my dual boot macbook pro. Makes life so easy with multiple operating systems, when I enjoy OSX over Windows, but need Windows for work.

Nice wallpaper. That's the castle of my honorary tribe ^^

Where did you get that pic? It is a nice one.

f.lux isn't bad, but I find myself disabling pretty often.

i used f.lux for a while but now i just leave my monitor at 0 brightness all the time. i like gadgets but i'm really picky and will only buy if the hardware alone is worth the cost because i'm inevitably going to gut the software

It has to be the 'NoNo' hair removal device, which 'hardly hurts at all'! I have been itching to do a shockin'bad taste pisstake of the ads, featuring a hirsuite, dusky girl, thrusting he nono into her tastefully hidden crotch, screaming "No! NOOOO! NOOO!" as violet flashes illuminate the room, and thick, black clouds of smoke belch from her crotch....

I've been looking for a solution to this 'my eyes are burning' question for a while now.
Do you wear glasses for looking at your screen?
F.lux does work for about 15 minutes.
I don't have any answer for this, and I went for an eye test just after the eye strain, or CVS (computer vision syndrome) took hold.
I was prescribed steroid cream since I had been rubbing my eye's, but there was nothing detrimental to the eye itself.
Now working out what the cause is...
Using my tablet (Nexus 7) without glasses has never been a problem, as I don't have to wear eye glasses to see things up close.
I've tried two different projectors, also the main sxga, xga screens on laptops and on a HD TV.
I'm thinking Benq monitors may be the way
"The human eye notices screen flickering when there’s a significant change in the brightness of light as it reaches the eyes, often causing computer eyestrain. Monitors give the illusion of a constant image when in fact they are “refreshing” quite frequently. These changes are very noticeable. If monitors were refreshed every three seconds (3Hz) they would of course, be unusable. When refreshed at rate of around 50 times a second (50Hz) these shifts are much less noticeable, reducing visible flicker for most users. However flicker is still present causing feelings of discomfort and eye strain. Simply put, in theory, a higher refresh rate usually alleviates this problem providing a more comfortable and productive user experience. This has given rise to great demand for monitors that are flicker-free, as they provide a much more comfortable viewing experience."

Try, if you have a high resolution screen on IOS or Android, Pocket.
Go to the settings and run the dark theme, then also tick the true black option.
You can run Pocket from Chrome or Firefox, and if you have an account; access them from your tablet or phone.
It also has tts (text to speech)
One of the main reasons I went to the opticians was to get a script for gunners eye products.

If you can't read the screen, can I suggest natural reader.
It's not perfect but you can get a demo and choose one voice from ivona or others.
You can set up a hot key to read out any text you copy to the clipboard.

Mine is my Samsung Note 4 phone. Finally a phone whose battery lasts all day, and I can leave the GPS on and enjoy all the features that come along with it. The screen is big, bright, and sharp. Cheap expandable storage.

It's missing some things the iPhone has, most notably for me the music jamming apps like Bebot, the speakers and speakerphone aren't good, and the iPhone camera is still the best.

But it's the best device of any kind I own.

i'm kinda glad i dont usually go to sleep until super late, gonna be on the road after work friday until practically morning. pretty sure i can dim my phone brightness enough to read/post the whole drive like i do during the day.

Sounds like you need Twilight

I cut out a sheet of red gelatin filter and tape it to my phone and computer monitor and use it at night. Like the software approach, it makes a big difference in terms of eye strain if you read in the dark.

Relax Melodies has become one of my favourite apps. It has Isochronic tones, binaural beats, sounds, meditations, timer, favourtes, and more.

I like using it while I taking naps.

MediaMonkey and Daum PotPlayer are pretty good. They play my .avi .mp3, .mk4, and standalone flashplayer_27_sa.exe.

I still love soulseek. Upgrading my music collection will be a never ending endeavour.

Iirc there used to be a bluelight chat room on there years ago, although it's long gone now. Anyone still using it?

If it existed, there's no one in there now. Plenty of other rooms w/ age-old regulars. I've been in the same room(s) for ~±15 years.
