Is Kingo Safe For ROOTING ANDROID?

I have an Android smartphone, and I'm interested in rooting for a variety of reasons. However, I'm uncertain as to whether Kingo is safe. If it's not and contains malware, I'd be interested in other ideas of how to root android. Perhaps, if there is a way to root without the use of any software and without the risk of bricking my phone. That would be preferable. As for the bricking risk, I don't plan on making any major adjustments with the phone. It would be just to have access to battery saving apps, data recovery software (for some important stuff I deleted), and simply to have the freedom to know that I have access to the code (as I do with my laptops that don't rooting as I am obviously the administrator of them). For anyone else who has rooted their phone, give me their tips...... if Kingo isn't safe. Someone on a forum said something about it having installed spyware, but on many forums I have heard good things about Kingo. However, I'm unsure whether this is accurate as other things were said from different sources. It comes up immediately when you type in "root android", and it seems to be quite popular and many people have had good experiences with it.

eh all these "one touch" apps seem dodgy and may not work depending on your phone anyway. the way i rooted was to flash Clockworkmod (CWM) over Android Debug Bridge (ADB) and that sets up a recovery menu to prevent hard (unrecoverable) bricking and lets you install any ROM from sdcard, if you have a common phone there should at least be a vanilla AOSP build for it that you can install

What phone do you have? Go to the section for your phone on the XDA Developer's forums, and follow a guide there. I can help if you share what exact model you have, down to carrier and the like (there's differences between the carriers of most phones). One touch methods that aren't meant for your phone specifically will most likely fuck your shit up.

I'm curious about this too. I've been googling for few days now.. these rooting sites look kinda sketch (I mean they always were but yeah) not sure what to do. I'd be nice to have linux though. I had friend who was able to almost boot broken computer from his phone back in the days.

I had ibullshit jailbroken in like 2012. Signing process died/ gave up went back to stock clean version :(

I'm "new" to android S7. It's got some bloatware though...

Again, XDA is where all the action happens development wise. Find the respective sub-forums for your device there and the associated guides within and follow those.

If you're going to google, google something like "Verizon Galaxy S7 root" "Verizon Galaxy S7 recovery", etc. make sure you included your phone and the guide you follow is both for your phone and up to date.

IIRC there were always concerns with Kingoroot because it sent device information back to a server in china, including your device IMEI, which is straight up dodgy. Nothing ever seemingly came from that to my knowledge, however. I had an old budget phone which required kingoroot to root, and I think it had a workaround of some sort, I can't really remember.

If you have a decent phone (and even if not, it just depends), there should be options to flash a bootloader like TWRP, then flash your custom rom, then a root manager with a safer profile; i.e SuperSU or Magisk.

Hey thanks for the reply!

I think I found it..

Latest Modem: G930W8VLU2BQH1

As for the provider (telus) doesn't show up often... another thread said it used Bell.
Ill keep reading. I'm not down to brick it..

That doesn't look to be rooting the S7 but instead updating the modem and bootloader.

This guide is relatively recent, and after five years of doing this stuff with Android, I don't see any issues with it. Read the entire thing twice though, and understand what you're doing. That's the biggest factor in bricks and fuck ups in general, not being knowledgeable enough about what is actually happening to not click the wrong option when unexpected options arise, etc.

This is the latest CF Auto Root file, as mentioned in the tutorial, that I found in quickly searching: https://download.chainfire.eu/955/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-zenltebmc-zenltebmc-smg928w8.zip - ah and just read after making this post, the CF Auto Root for G930F will also work. You may want to verify whichever CF Auto Root version you use will work for the firmware/build/etc you're on as well.
Here is a database of firmware's for your G930W8: https://desktop.firmware.mobi/device:452

Make sure you install everything the guide says too, etc. If you know what you're doing it's really quite simple, straight-forward, and hard to fuck up. Ask away if you have more questions.

OP: if you still need help lemme know

Yeah, the key is simply to read through the guides a few times and know/understand what each step will be, then follow to the word. What you running (ROM/phone) psy997?

I'm eager for some custom Oreo ROMs for my OnePlus One. I'd run lineage 15 (Oreo) but I really want substratum support. Can't stand the default white android. Running resserection remix at the moment, and cyanogenmod before that.

I'm on an HTC U11 running LeeDroid and happy as can be. It's hands down the best phone and phone experience I've ever had. The battery life is staggeringly good, the camera so good that I don't even think about my DSLR unless there's going to be tough shooting conditions, and it's fast as fuck. There's not much HTC shit preloaded to begin with, and even less now. I think it's on 7.1.1?

Hey psy997!

Thanks for the help... fuckin a it worked!

I did have to enable developer mode (which was missing from the guide) but that's ok (I already knew that).
I found another CF file though with matching build numbers.. and the zip came with Odin too btw.

It was surprisingly fast too, like 20 secs.

What did you do, root your phone? If you want rid of some of that bloatware you were talking about then I recommend installing Chef's App Freezer for android, now that you have root access.

If you really want rid of the bloatware and to have a faster/enhanced phone experience, then it sounds to me like you're probably competent enough to flash a custom rom. Lineage OS 15 (formally known as CyanogenMod) is probably the best shout, and it means you could install android 8/Oreo.

Edit: It's not available yet but Lineage 14/Nougat is. Oreo will be coming soon.

Yes voided warranty. Thanks the Chef App Freezer looks nice and clean! Maybe it can block the knox? ("Threat found") system notifications I keep getting, I finally pressed reboot option and it went into a bootloop... so I ended up flashing it again. I tried another app to block it but it didn't work.

I did find another useful app EDS Lite works with VeraCrypt. Various Macchangers..

Well I'm still looking around at sys files, the structure of it...

I wanted to run Kali for fun, LinuxDeploy seems to crash every try. But having a bit of trouble with my ghetto sd card saying 4gb max (fat) the img file is 5.xxgb. Again I wasted time formatting it to exFat, and other ones for fun. I tried luks with crypt but that was bad idea lol. Now I think half the card is corrupt. Files randomly started to disappear when I had 3.5gb left free space went up to 12/32gb?

I was interested and I still am in custom roms, Ill def look into it once I get bored! I admit the "No hotspot" on Lineage is kinda nice lol to ppl trying to bum wifi...

A bit of a different matter has come up, although this one may be just me being paranoid as hell because I haven't slept much. I've been using quite a lot of speed and getting drunk every day like usual and as a result I haven't gotten a decent sleep in a week or so. Though to be honest, more than anything I've just been up because I've been so excited about some of the ideas and endeavors that I've had going on lately that have been quite productive and meaningful. I have been doing a lot of stuff with regard to marketing my business. Recently, I downloaded Tor to have multiple accounts on a website for advertising to promote my business..... not to trash others though as that's just low. Anyways, just now I saw the service truck for my ISP drive by my house..... and it seemed like it slowed down as it was going by my house 8o I realize this could be paranoia yet it really did seem like the truck slowed down. They couldn't be doing surveillance on my house or something could they? Or gathering information on me or something could they? I wasn't even using it for anything horrible or anything, just to have a bunch of sockpuppets on this advertising related board of a forum. I'm thinking this is probably paranoid because it doesn't really make much sense (as far as I know at least), yet I'll be honest and say it has me a bit concerned. Thoughts? I figure it's probably paranoid but with Trump being president and all now.......... I just feel like you never know since he repealed that net neutrality law and all. Plus, I feel like there's no way they'd be spying on me as it just seems absurd yet I just feel like I need a second opinion as I'm somewhat unsure at the moment.

I'm not an expert, lol.. but I do know your isp knows if your "using" tor.
Your ISP can only see "parts" (like un-encrypted parts of the net) according to another thread (somewhere in this forum) like whether it has https or not... I actually don't understand that part if it's an onion site? I've never seen one with ssl :S

Not sure what steps you use..
But avoid being signed in to normal sites/ or on another device at the same time.

I use tails if I go to the darkside (which is like never) I enjoy reading their updates though/ counter measures.
example: supposedly they found if your browser is full screen "they'll" know what your monitor you're using...

You're probably just a bit noid (but aren't we all). wikileaks doesnt help. I also had a neighbor who wrote his own OS. He figured out how to run both ubuntu and windows at the same time. He'd randomly tell me stories of what his "hacker" friends can do.. like custom OS android. leave their phone behind (on purpose) near a target (so it can hack the wifi. blabla etc) if someone would find the phone. they could take switch it "off" (but really it wouldnt be off..) it would record/film them. if they brought it home it would hack their network.. and then theyd be able to hack them remotely. so even if they wouldnt give the phone back they'd still fuck their shit up atleast.. maybe to avoid getting shot when to find their phone lol

I used to see glitches on my computer/ strange behaviors when I was fcuked up. Part of me still believes this computer is remote OS... even when after long periods of sobriety.

Is there a speed bump in front of your house? 8)

Fuck. I was googling some shit and the next thing I know there's this pop-up that said something about asking me Google's privacy policy while I was using my VPN (not Tor). And it said something about "asking you to review google's policy before using google's services). I heard something on Wikileaks about Finfisher and the pop ups that the shadowy government types use if they're trying to take you down 8o I think that's what the guy was doing in front of my house perhaps........ maybe not, but it's worrying me. What do you think. I didn't click on it. Thoughts? I'm still thinking this is probably something normal since there's this vague part of me that thinks I saw something like that before. It was some sort of Google shit I think because it said "you can withdraw your consent at any time" and something else like it was a real survey...... yet part of me got paranoid and switched to Yahoo. And it wasn't there, so that's probably a good sign it wasn't something scary.

when you use a VPN or Tor you're sharing an IP address with the sort of people who run cyberattacks through them, and webservers often respond by flagging the address as high-risk and throwing random CAPTCHAs and other confirm-your-identity type stuff at you to slow down attacks. it's like showing up at your bank driving the same color and model of car that was used as the getaway car in a bank robbery the day prior :)

I'm not an expert, lol.. but I do know your isp knows if your "using" tor.

Tor already uses TLS (SSL) so there isn't a need for the sites to do it themselves.

By the way, for those who rooted, I highly recommend to install Titanium Backup and check out what apps are running all the time on your phone (under "backup/restore") - they are hidden and normally without root access you will have no idea you have them. I have found a shit ton of suspicious garbage like cloud agents, google apps, intelligence services, intent filter verification service (wtf is that suppose to be I wonder?), market feedback agents, there were LOTS of that shit - I deleted them all and what do you know? The phone holds the battery twice as long now, I stopped having weird glitches and everything works as it suppose to. Go figure...:\

LandsUnknown >> "asking you to review google's policy before using google's services." is the most annoying popup ever.. yeah when it starts asking too much captcha this/that I'd use other search engines. I remember a time when google didn't know what tor was... the good old days!

I figured it didn't need it or something... considering its only on dark. Thanks for clearing that up.

Volsam >> Yeah I installed titanium, there's so much garbage running on this thing it's like reading a novel.

FB is the worst I find compared to google. As for google/android it's logging everything. Giving me weather reports/ restaurant suggestions/ asking me to write reviews lol. traffic reports. semi-annoying.

I wonder if there's another "tor" like system out there, that'd be nice.

I will definitely not recommend rooting your phone. Because not only did it ruined my phone once with so many pop ads and automatic installation of unknown apps I never heard off but then the service centre won't accept my phone even though it was on warranty period only because my phone was rooted :(

Update: Yes like Tranced says always install ROMS from official and trusted sources only. Else you will have to face issues like I did once.
