Charlottesville, Virginia

Organized protests, marches or rallies almost always need permits so that the police, EMT's and even firefighters can get get ready in case of an emergency.

If everyone just started protesting everything they wanted you'd have bloodbaths breaking out everywhere

We've had many protests around here that I don't think had permits. The only time I recall bloodshed was when a small group of racists showed up and started shooting people, and that was a few years ago.

I think we just had another protest the other night. We sure like protesting around here, yet even without permits, we don't seem to devolve into bloodshed (other than that aforementioned shooting).

Here's something for you to defend:

[video of barcelona and a van and violence and probably Muslims I didn't watch]

I don't have to defend that. I don't have anything to do with it, know anything about it, and it has nothing to do with the situation here. It isn't even in this country.

Is it muslims? Are you gong to tell me they're Leftist somehow, or that we leftists always defend "muslims" therefore we defend Islam, and when you get heated, by extension we defend terrorist acts?

Defending Muslim human beings from reactionary right-wing policies is not the same as defending the predominant religion in the region.

OK, why don't you open a new thread for me to explain the difference for you, cause it's got nothing to do with this one.

Watch bill maher show...he's always attackimg Muslims and as far left as u can be.

You are totally wrong that the left always defemdss Muslims...there is a section that does...Hillary and co....one of the many reasons she lost...Dems need to get real with the PC shit like maher if they want to win in this racist ass country

That Sheriff is a well-known tool. No, he doesn't get automatic "PC cred" cause of his skin tone and his opinion on it is about as useful as mine is.

He's one of those "constitutional sheriffs" that happens to be a real sheriff. IOW, he's nutty wonkette.com.

Not entirely true, he said later he wanted to wait before all the facts came out.

I think thats fair and smart. The last thing you wanna do is act on emotion
lol. because that's how he behaved all the way through the campaign and in his first 6 months in office - carefully gathering facts before offering a well-considered response on a variety of subjects.

i call total bullshit.

alasdair

So the Left today are angry at these statues, is it a bit of guilt maybe? There were 4 million slaves in the US - 100% of them were owned by Democrats. No Republicans owned slaves.

Sen. Robert Byrd, the longest-serving member in the history of the United States Congress, was also an avid recruiter for the KKK whose title was "Kleagle and Exalted Cyclops"--and Hillary Clinton's self-proclaimed "mentor". So... since she's out of work, maybe she could be the poster-child for uniting those Radical Leftists and White Supremacists:

Thanks. Hannity made this a story yesterday. Your boy there was a US senator, someone you have to smile at sometimes if you're a politician.

If you think that loose association is proof, Trump would be even more racist than I imagine.

White supremacists are pathetic. I'm proud of white/European/western culture, but I love people of all races. Some of the best people I've known have been non-white. Racist discourse never really works on someone who's grown up with ppl from all races. You get immunised to it.

Like I said, im proud to be white, and immensely proud of the achievements of western society. But one can be proud and not be a white supremacist/Nazi. Hitler was a scumbag who tried to take over the world. I'm a huge believer in free speech and the rule of law. Nazism is antithetical to that.

This poor girl was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. She was there standing up for her beliefs, as is her right. she's gone to a better place. I'll pray for her tonight. I've gone through stages of atheism, but I've never been able to shake the feeling Jesus is there and he loves us. Fuck all the man made dogma. Anyone who loves can be a disciple of Jesus Christ.

You don't seem to be preaching that next door in the exaggerate Islam thread, where you've brought up race a few times.

Thanks. Hannity made this a story yesterday.
I told Liquid that he should watch Hannity. He could advise us all to watch this amazing show that magically states his thoughts for the day, but to no avail.

Here's why people like Hannity and Liquid (who might be Hannity) display that photograph of Senator Byrd and Secretary Clinton every time Trump gets in over his hair regarding white supremacists.

The photograph [of Senator Byrd and Secretary Clinton] was posted by numerous web sites [in 2016] along with articles arguing that the news media were being hypocritical in their coverage of Trump’s purported connections to a white supremacist hate group, while making no mention of Hillary Clinton. The Daily Caller also published a video of Clinton praising Byrd’s service in Congress.

Despite mounting criticism for Donald Trump’s failure to disavow former Ku Klux Klan grand wizard David Duke’s support, Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton once heaped praise for late Klan leader Sen. Robert Byrd.

In a video uploaded to the State Department’s official YouTube page on June 28, 2010, Clinton commemorated late Sen. Byrd by saying, “Today our country has lost a true American original, my friend and mentor Robert C. Byrd.

This photograph and video are undeniably genuine: The photograph was taken in July 2004, and the video of Clinton was filmed on 28 June 2010, shortly after Byrd’s death.

It’s also true that Robert Byrd was a member of the Ku Klux Klan in the 1940s and helped establish the hate group’s chapter in Sophia, West Virginia. However, in 1952 Byrd avowed that “After about a year, I became disinterested [in the KKK], quit paying my dues, and dropped my membership in the organization,” and throughout his long political career (he served for 57 years in the United States Congress) he repeatedly apologized for his involvement with the KKK:

“I know now I was wrong. Intolerance had no place in America. I apologized a thousand times … and I don’t mind apologizing over and over again. I can’t erase what happened.”

In 2010, even the NAACP released a statement honoring Senator Byrd and mourning his passing:

The NAACP is saddened by the passing of United States Senator Robert Byrd. Byrd, the longest serving member of congress was first elected to the U.S. House from [West Virginia] in 1952 and was elected Senator in 1958. Byrd passed away this morning at the age of 92.

"Senator Byrd reflects the transformative power of this nation,” stated NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Todd Jealous. “Senator Byrd went from being an active member of the KKK to a being a stalwart supporter of the Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act and many other pieces of seminal legislation that advanced the civil rights and liberties of our country.

“Senator Byrd came to consistently support the NAACP civil rights agenda, doing well on the NAACP Annual Civil Rights Report Card. He stood with us on many issues of crucial importance to our members from the reauthorization of the Voting Rights Act, the historic health care legislation of 2010 and his support for the Hate Crimes Prevention legislation,” stated Hilary O. Shelton, Director of the NAACP Washington Bureau and Senior Vice President for Advocacy and Policy.

“Senator Byrd was a master of the Senate Rules, and helped strategize passage of legislation that helped millions of Americans. He will be sorely missed.”

Although this image was used to criticize the media for ignoring Hillary Clinton’s connection to former KKK member Robert Byrd while simultaneously playing up Donald Trump’s comments regarding former Klan member David Duke, several factors made the latter much more newsworthy in early 2016.

First of all, Trump declined to condemn Duke and the Ku Klux Klan in February 2016, making the story current and newsworthy, while photograph of Hillary Clinton was taken more than a decade ago. The lack of current coverage isn’t because the print media are ignoring the association, but because the photograph is a several-year-old story.

Second, while David Duke is no longer a member of the Ku Klux Klan, he is still an active member of another white supremacist organization, NAAWP: the National Association for the Advancement of White People. Duke, a prominent Holocaust denier (although he describes himself as a “Holocaust exposer“), also has a more-than-passing interest in politics: the former member of the Louisiana House of Representatives has run for the U.S. Senate, governor of Louisiana, and President of the United States. Duke has spent his life founding and supporting various white nationalist and white supremacist groups, while Byrd, by contrast, spent the majority of his life publicly disavowing and repeatedly apologizing for his early KKK affiliation.

^Motherfucker was still an active leader of the KKK. He was a Nazi.
Shouldn't you use him as an example to try to dissuade these modern-day Nazis, by engaging them and showing them that change is possible?
What if a young Robert Byrd Nazi leader was punched by a masked anti-fascist and that solidified his hate and he never sought redemption?

Meanwhile..

Hillary called black youth "super-predators".
She also spread a photo around of Obama in African attire.

Racist?
