I have never been this depressed by an election in my life. Depressed and terrified. And that is all I can say tonight.
I know the feeling. When in 2011 the House of Commons in Canada passed a resolution of non-confidence in the always minority government of the "Conservatives" (I can explain later why I put that in quotes when it comes to the new Tories in Canada). Stephen Harper was the most creepy, reactionary(he was the first world leader to go batshit over Crimea returning to Russia and started the sanctions bullshit). He even gave 3 days the guys in the Iranian embassy to leave and destroyed the building. Anyway after 2 elections where all he got was a weak minority government (only his adversaries had weaker leaders), in 2011, after that vote of non-confidence, he had to start elections again, which pissed him off really bad, if he could have sent then "Defense" Minister John Baird fat ass' with a baseball bat to the NDP and Liberal Party seats he would have (John Baird was his big idiot Defense minister, the only one never reshuffled). So elections in 2011, turns out, Canada never had a coalition government, but under the rules we can, no third party never became as big as the NDP, and the NDP is a serious left party, social-democrat. So the NDP and the Liberals wanted to make a coalition government, when in the past the Libs had been stupid and by spite did not vote on things the NDP voted against so did not block all the crazy crap coming from that minority conservative government. But now they had enough and were going to have a coalition government for the first time in Canada. He actually said it was illegal to do so and blah blah blah he prorogued Parliament for december and early January, the whole of december, the election was in November sometimes in 2011, late October I think so he did this majorly illegal thing I won't bore you with, and even convinced his party to block a popular motion (now that they were a Majority government...the Coalition on the other side was the only thing that could prevent that) so that's it's like in Britain (and Australia too is my understanding), where a party can kick out the PM back to a regular MP seat, like they did with Thatcher, when that "woman"...heh, look at NOFX's third EP in the 80's, in 86, "The P.M.R.C. Can Suck On This" and look at the album art to see what I think the relationship between Reagan and Thatcher was...their song Ronnie & Mags is pretty good and hilarious too.
So, yeah, be glad this guy Stephen Harper was not American...he was not a "Conservative", he was from the Reform Party, a hardline right wing bordering on Fascist party that merged with the Progressive-Conservative Party in the 90's which was reduced to 3 seats, less than the Reform Party, less than the Canadian Alliance (same kind of shit as the Reform Party, although openly racist against natives and immigrants). So Harper was a kind of John Birch Society guy being PM of Canada, imagine that as President of the US, we would all have died back in 2013 when the US intervened illegally in Ukrainian affairs, nukes would have flied everywhere. He can't wait for it (Harper), he goes to the kind of Christian Identity church, one of the few in Canada, but that (un)surprisingly has a lot of rich oil men from western Canada in it, who can't wait for Israel to be nuked so it forces Christ to come back...for what purpose...I don't even know...that shit is Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Alberta longitude insanity to me, sorry if I misplaced Nebraska, I forgot what's on north of Oklahoma.
Not too bad, Trump did not speak ill of native americans, which Harper would do, until he found that doing so was bad for his votes...4 years into power.
Anyway, feels, I got them too man. That illegal majority government by the Harperites was scary and almost turned Canada, and probably successfully turned Alberta and Saskatchewan into a safe haven for neo nazi Ukrainians, Canada has the largest Ukrainian expats community, close to 2 million. A lot of them, in central/western Canada, the french and the british did not want to be mixed with eastern europeans and sent them to colonize the west, and they were brutal, while in good old 1700's lower and upper Canada (Ontario and Quebec), we made peace with Indians, although they purposefully chose to have reserves way up north to protect themselves from our European diseases. And now they show how unpractical it is to live where they live now, where there's nothing to do, so some guys take train rides to Toronto, fill up on crack, H, everything and make living for nothing bearable. Although they are getting out, slowly out of that self-destructive way we basically ingrained in their DNA when we introduced them to alcohol.
