CEPS Well Hung Parliament (CEPS Social/Off Topic)

Haha! Oh :p I have met some serious "Christian anarchists" though haha.

Well I think a person could be a christian anarchist if one didn't think in terms of absolutes. There should be nothing stopping a christian anarchist from differentiating between the laws of man and god I would think.

Relevant CEP Schopenhauer:

The Euclidean method of demonstration has brought forth from its own womb its most striking parody and caricature in the famous controversy over the theory of parallels, and in the attempts, repeated every year, to prove the eleventh axiom (also known as the fifth postulate). The axiom asserts, and that indeed through the indirect criterion of a third intersecting line, that two lines inclined to each other (for this is the precise meaning of "less than two right angles"), if produced far enough, must meet. Now this truth is supposed to be too complicated to pass as self-evident, and therefore needs a proof; but no such proof can be produced, just because there is nothing more immediate.

I don't think I understand this, because it seems self evident. You could argue that if the angle of inclination is too little, we may run out of 'space' to extend the lines until they meet. Or if the 2 lines are separated by some huge distance even a very acute angle
wouldn't help.

Yeah, its not as self evident as I thought!

Wrong, but not on the wrong path. We are talking about mathematical theory, which assumes the existence of infinity.

If you can disprove infinity we may be on to something.

The point is that something so self evident cannot be further proven because you cannot break it down into more simple pieces. It is in its essence a fact, and in order to prove this obvious fact one would have to prove the existence of infinity, which as humans we are incapable of.

Similar to a religion with existing, physical evidence IMO. With our limited perspective/time constraints we will have an awful hard time proving infinity exists. If we can send something through a black hole I think that that would be a huge step (for us) in proving infinity, but then of course one has to ask beginning/end? Are these just man made constructs? Is the likelihood for true beginning/end even more unlikely than infinity? Who knows =)

I'm sure someone here could calculate two relatively small angles (say to a trillionth or something) approaching 90 degrees relative to the third line, and show that these lines would meet within a relatively small space (potentially within our own galaxy). The thing is to approach 90 degrees and to never reach it is in itself an affirmation of infinity. The only angle when these two lines wouldn't touch is if they are parallel (four 90 degree relative to third line). However, with true infinity, perhaps a linear plane type thing doesn't exist, but that is why you have your perpendicular reference line, and shit starts getting hard to imagine if things aren't planar...this could be the complexity IMO that is not so self evident. I mean, you can view 4D space as being filled with infinite planes, but I feel we are missing some dimensions maybe?

Very interesting Shimmer_fade. I have little more to add, though you've sent me searching for some answers :)

While answering you I entered into some interesting thoughts myself =)

I always think it is so funny that the average short term memory gets to like 7 digits, and then has trouble (my short term is pretty much a polished turd). This kinda shows me where I feel we are in the scale of things.

Trots are supporting Bernie? Makes sense i suppose :)

I've been in the SA for years now, and it's long been standard that we've dropped the entryist approach to politics. I'm personally befuddled by their support, but at least we haven't dropped our other activities to focus on the Sanders campaign.

I mean, entryism was their shtick for years, we are trots, afterall. To pick it up so suddenly after suddenly dropping it as a policy, the part that befuddles me is why have an official entryist policy to begin with?

So it looks like old Fidel has made his farewell speech. I'm certain he knows something we don't, as he says "this will probably be my last time speaking to you in this room (Cuban Congress)". It was an emotional atmosphere and he was given a standing ovation as he left the chamber. He must not have very much time, but made clear that Cuba will continue to progress, and to oppose imperialism of any kind, which was also met with roaring applause. So he's probably not going to make it to 2017 :\

He praised his brother and the Cuban people before leaving. I can't find any full videos, only tiny clips here and there.

Viva Fidel <3

Oh, and speaking of our earlier Trotskyist discussion, bardeaux, i thought you might find this interesting.
It is a "trot guide" of all of the Australian Trot (and Marxist/Leninist) micro-parties in Australia, by one of my favourite anarchist/antifa bloggers (the pseudonymous Andy Fleming):

You'll note that Socialist Alternative (SAlt) have a strong presence in various actions here too, but their rise has been mainly in the last 10 years or so.
Quite an entertaining read, and a great blog. Neo-nazis have been trying very hard to dox him for at least the last year, and have repeatedly failed (and occasionally beaten for their efforts, by Melbourne's anti-racist crew).

Lol, looks like the disinformationists are coming out of the woodwork again in some of the threads 8(

Anybody not intentionally posting lies should not feel addressed.

Be of note that the Socialst Alternative of Australia isn't the same as Socialist Alternative US, which is a member of the CWI.

I did used to receive SA newspapers while in Aus though :P

Ah interesting. I didnt know that.
I'm not a big fan of SAlt over here. They've sorta taken over a lot of street-level and campus socialist stuff. They're ok, but i have friends that span from the anarchist side of things to the Greens Party. And some who are involved with both.
But i'm not really alligned with anyone, so i just kinda observe, go to demonstrations, occasional meetings and fundraisers. Oh, and benefit gigs :)

With the pathetic little upsurge in neo-nazi/race hate grouplets becoming active here in the last year or so, i've been getting more involved in anti-fascist actions.
None of the ones i've attended have been very violent, fortunately, but a fair bit of fasho blood has been spilt on the streets of Melbourne. Oopsy, Mr Swastika Skull Tatt fell over and bumped his nosey-wose!

Is the newspaper you speak of Red Flag, or Green Left Weekly?

^ you're right, he could have beaten his face in with a crucifix.

Omnipotent God should habe protected one of these guys with a gun, surely?
Maybe God is having trouble telling the good guys from the bad guys - or maybe God needs a gun.
Shit, imagine the potential for sponsorship deals....

For this reason, God is always packing Smith and Wesson.
