Mass sexual assaults on New Year's Eve

It's pretty obvious. Men who come from countries where women dress modestly and are shamed for wearing anything revealing are now in Germany taking full advantage of the women they view as sluts who are asking for it. Arab and North African cultures are rife with rape culture. Women there can go to jail for being rape victims if they're not married.

I'm betting it's mostly refugees. It's the only explanation for why none of them knew much German, and why the political officials are trying to be hush hush about it. Nobody wants to admit the shit storm that letting this many people from a single region into the country means.

Also... where the fuck were the police? It's NYE in town square and there were no law enforcement stopping this?

Tokezu: You completely missed the point. October fest is a gigantic festival where alcohol flows freely, stuff like that happens at nearly every big festival. The Cologne incident involves 1000 men in a completely different context, and where the sexual assaults happened as a coordinated attack on the women. Groups of men surrounding and assaulting women is not the same and you fucking know it, stop trying to connect the two.

I can not believe the denial in this thread. Absolutely delusional! I don't usually say this but you guys are actually fucking nuts.

This is the part of the story I'm most interested in because it likely to be the place where we get a picture of how things will turn out in the future for Germany. The police deal with reality, on the ground situations. The politicians do not, and the politicians will try to lay the blame on the police force for not handling the situation, which will either cause the police to stand up and get outraged or to bend over and accept the politicians will. It's already happening too.. "Police in Germany will have to rethink their tactics following attacks on women in the city of Cologne on New Year's Eve, a senior official has said" (BBC article).

How are police supposed to respond to a 1000 strong mob that don't respect the country they're in? You need riot police and serious manpower to contain that kind of mob, not regular police. Not unless you want to risk your officers being seriously injured or killed by that mob.

It's insanity. The politicians, from the Mayor of Cologne and her "women need a code of conduct" remarks to the Interior Minister quoted above.. they are completely detached from reality. Germans should be fucking outraged by this whole event, it is absolutely disgraceful and the kind of thing that in times past we would have strung up leaders for. Usually when politicians are detached from reality it involves taxes or some other thing that in itself won't cause harm.. but this is totally different, where direct harm results from their delusional political agenda.

Let me make a little change to that statement of yours: "stuff like that happens at nearly every big gathering of drunk people." Now tell me how was the context different in Cologne? It's a crowd of drunk people for god's sake and they behave like crowds of drunk people sadly tend to behave, no matter if they are german, british or algerian.

Yes, the fact that these attacks were carried out by groups and were coordinated to some extent is an obvious difference and I really don't know what to make of that. Above you added to your statement of "this is not in the same league" that in the case of Cologne the victims were "not passed out fuck face drunk". Maybe I misconstrued that as your main point, when it was merely a little addition to your main point that the difference lies in how these attacks were carried out. If you don't mind read that sentence of yours again and see if you can understand why I felt you were mocking the victims at the Oktoberfest about being stupid enough to get drunk in such an environment.

Big festivals and events incidents happen.. you have to be naive to think it doesn't. Accordingly women know this and how to deal with it or avoid the situations.. unfortunately there are inevitably some women who get so fucked up they can no longer defend unwanted advances. The difference between that and this event is that this was a public square, not an organized event, and the method of advances is a mile away from stuff that takes place a festival.. not one on one advances on drunken women, but organized groups of men stalking and assaulting sober women, in one case a woman who was with her partner and teenage daughter. That guy could do little to defend against that. If you think the two are comparable you are mistaken.

You don't know what to make of it because you're being willfully ignorant. Groups of men assaulting women like this have happened before but not in our countries. We have individuals in this country who behave this way sometimes, but not entire groups in coordination, because 95%+ of men in this country treat with women with fucking respect. Do you want me to paint a picture for you? Does it need to be made more obvious for you?

Oh please. I'm not going to examine my own posts, I'm well aware of what I said. It's not my fault if you believe you see something in them that isn't actually there. Why the hell would I mock the victims? If you actually read my posts you can clearly see I'm fucking outraged by this event! I haven't said the political figures should be hung for no reason.. they have failed these women utterly and completely with their bastard political agenda. They should hang for it.

I think I pointed out quite clearly in what way your statement was ambiguous, I thought maybe you hadn't realized that and would be happy to clear up a misunderstanding. Obviously you're not interested in petty details such as how what you write here is interpreted, that is your right of course, although it makes debates very frustrating.
Why would you mock these victims? Because clearly you have an agenda and your compassion for the victims of sexual assaults is dependent on whether or not you can identify with the cultural/ethnic background of the perpetrators. Otherwise you would admit that sexual violence is a massive problem in european/western/"white" culture as well as in north african culture.

It's not always the done thing - but i'm happy to if you object so to me suggesting you have double standards on the issue of gender politics.

How dare you proclaim the nature of my compassion. If you want to have that opinion fine but keep it to yourself, because I take that open accusation as a personal attack. I would like to insult you thoroughly but there is no point/I would only gain another infraction. Ethic background has nothing to do with this, at all. Sexual violence is sexual violence, and again I'm tempted to say how I feel right now because you're insinuating I make a distinction, based on ethnicity, which I do not. Just because I don't rant on about sexual violence in other contexts doesn't mean I don't acknowledge its existence, or have no compassion for those victims.

Some of my remarks are sarcastic because I know it pisses off uptight progressive numpties. Having said that some of my perspective does have a sexist tangent to it, from the perspective you exist in perhaps.. but I stand by my position. I don't hold it because I hate women or whatever crap you want to attribute to it.. my views generally go against the grain, not by choice, but because the society we live in right now is so fucking backwards, upside down and inside out that my views appear to be outside acceptable conventions.

Nations with a dominant cultural core thrive because they have cultural stability. You can't have genuine multicultural societies because one cultural with inevitably try to out compete the other. This isn't abstraction, this is nature. Cultures are composed of people, and people don't operate according to liberal fantasy land type projections. Maybe in 1000 years they might when enough darkness has been purged from our minds, but in the 21st century we are still essentially still monkeys. All of us.

For some cultural perspective, in the US, around 1 in 4 college women report being raped. The majority of cases happens during the first semester of freshmen year in college, and it is usally at off campus parties (including frat house parties) and date rape. I think that makes the US the rape capital of the world, and most of those rapes are commited by the natives.

^ Backwards, upside down and inside out are all rhetorical devices which one would employ to suggest that the object/society you are identifying is wrong.

You claim this interpretation of your language is twisting your views. If you don't mean society is "wrong", what do you mean by "backwards, upside down and inside out"? I presume you do not mean correct... I take it that you know what the definition of being incorrect is... it is synonymous with being "wrong".

Cologne police chief leaves post after New Year Eve attacks

The head of Cologne's police force is leaving his post "to restore public trust in the police" following scores of attacks on women in the city on New Year's Eve.

Federal authorities say they have identified 18 asylum-seekers among 31 suspects linked to crimes committed in Cologne on New Year's Eve.

The state police in Cologne have recorded 170 complaints of crimes, 117 of which involve sexual assault. There were two allegations of rape.
 
Oh I'm sorry, I'll just stick to the conventional understanding and not rock the boat at all. The forum would be dull if everyone all believed in the same conventional perspective. it would. i agree. but that's not what i am saying at all.

i'm just observing that you frequently and indignantly accuse people of things you do yourself every other post. there's a word for that. further, you get bent out of shape when somebody criticises your statements but you have no problem slinging insults and personal abuse. there's a word for that too.

but we disagree and you'll just get even more indignant as a result of this message. because you're right and everybody else is delusional and wrong, right? there's a word for that too :)
