If yes, what do you use it for and how much do you take?

A few years ago I went to an intern. He diagnosed me with latent hypothyroidism and gave me a weird protocol.
I should slowly move up to 100mcg T4 + 50 mcg T3 daily. This was a way too high dose. It made me become hyperthyroid.
I didn't really have many side effects which was strange. But what I noticed was that I lost weight even though I
was eating normal. This was kinda cool. But when I found out that my ft3 levels were way too high I had to stop
and get off the T3. I went to a new doc and he said that the protocol of the other doc was crazy and that I should
only take T4.

But now I wonder how dangerous would it be to simply add some T3 in order to lose weight? Could this be done safely
for a period of time? I even read that large doses of T3 are also used against depression even in people which have normal
thyroid levels.

Recently I went to a doc and got my thyroid levels checked and since my ft3 levels were only at 50% the new doc advised me to
take 100 mcg T4 + 10 mcg T3 daily. I have now started adding 10mcg T3. But what's strange is that I do not feel the T3 at all.
The doc told me most people notice T3 and get a boost which lasts for a few hours and they also notice when the T3 wears off.
But I notice nothing at all. Even when I take the T3 I'm still tired most of the day and don't have much energy.
But if I tried to increase my T3 intake then I'd probably end up in hyperthyroidism.

I also wonder do the ft3 and ft4 levels have to stay within the normal range? What if for example your levels are above the normal range?
Would this automatically be dangerous? Or are there people who may need levels which are above the normal range?

What I learned is that when it comes to the thyroid every doctor has his own opinion about what medication to use, which levels to aim for and so on.

Too much t3 is linked to cardiac and bone density issues.

T4 is converted to t3 in the body so now that you are more stabilized, and of course the lower dose, could explain why you feel no boost from the t3.

it's definitely not the best idea, but they do prescribe it to people with depression who have normal thyroid levels. i'm sure it's harmful. it would be interesting to know more though. i definitely wouldn't do it, i have thyroid cancer, so enough thyroid problems for me.

I am surprised. Why are you so afraid of thyroid meds?
I am not abusing anything. I just take what my doc told me to take.
But now I'm scared what if this dose is unhealthy?
But my ft3 levels were only at 50% when I was only taking 100mcg T4.
That's why my doc said I should add 10mcg T3. Sounds reasonable, doesn't it?

But now I wonder what if the additional T3 has negative effects on the metabolism?
What if it makes me burn muscle mass?
I cannot really say that I feel any better now where I take the T3. I am also not any less tired.

I have to ask in all seriousness... WHY would you come to a forum for medical advise?
There is NO possible way anyone here is qualified to answer you question on T3 / T4 /or R2D2 for that matter. Magical blood screenings are not yet possible over the internet.
Please seek at least two Licensed medical doctors opinions, and leave with the knowledge that you will at least do less harm than needed to yourself. Please!
