EADD - Today's top 5 Albums - Old bastards vs Whipper Snappers

You're welcome to it :).

My idiosyncratic evaluation (which includes mental associations and fond memories as parameters) says otherwise.

Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 85-92
NIN-Pretty Hate Machine
GnR - Appetite For Destruction
Old Crow Medicine Show - Tennesse Pusher
The Prodigy - The Prodigy Experience

Know what you mean. Mental / emotional associations and the lack of objectivity that comes with them are a major reason behind me being afraid of these 'top 5' things.

Of course, such lists are by their very nature subjective, but there's stuff I like a lot that I can't listen to anymore (hello Neil Young and Dylan) which I'd end up leaving out in favour of a fucking Cult record which I'll be slightly embarrassed by six months down the line. I mean, I love The Cult in a way, but you know what I mean.

I'm not intending to 'police' the numbers in your list...I get lost after 11 and distracted just after 22 ;)

Don't we all? ;)

Found that picture of Bill you sent to me ages ago when I was looking for something the other day. Raised a smile, so it did.

That's a very difficult one to answer. I'm a real music lover so there are way too many to even recollect. But I'll pick the first 5 that come to mind of that I've listened to many many times at some point.

I find myself in a similar situation plus I do listen to some compilations, i.e. Best of, albums but I'll stick to studio/live albums. In no particular order:

Nirvana - MTV Unplugged in New York
Alice in Chains - MTV Unplugged
Metallica - Black Album
Sublime - Sublime
Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced?

It couldn't be anything other than subjective and temporal, so I say just go with it. Anyone who reckons they can come up with an objective top 5 of any art is a bit of a misguided div.:D

I only gave a list as it's *today's* five favourite albums. Ask me in another mood and it'd be all electro or ska punk or metal stuff. ;)

Future Sound Of London -Lifeforms
Goldie -Incredible Sounds of Drum and Bass
Prodigy -The Experience
Cypress Hill -Black Sunday
Suburban Base -The History Of Hardcore, Jungle, Drum & Bass: 1991-1997

Could of added Dark Side of the Moon .

You could have but and if you intend to I'd do it quickly, it's only a mater of time before my campaign for a new clause in the BLUA covering such transgression is successful :D

they were shit after Syd left

Nick drake pink moon
Any of aphex twins analord ep's
Ramones leave home
Peste noire la Sanie...

It'd be excruciating to choose just a few tho.

good albums so far..

here are some albums i love. and not only for a few songs on them either, but general good overall.

Daft Punk - Random access memories
Chemical Brothers - Dig your own hole
Max Richter - Vivaldi recomposed
DJ Shadow - Endtroducing...
Jimi Hendrix Experience - Are you experienced
Air - Moon safari

a lot more out there, but id take these to a desert island for sure

I want to contest that, but.. yeah, you're probably right. Thbpt.

About the Ramones? Or about you being firmly middle class? :D

I disagree - they were actually better after Syd left, at least on record, although only till about 1972. The live shows with Syd are something to behold (at least when he was trying) but the recorded output doesn't match up, although there were some lovely singles.

I say that as a former Syd loyalist who received more messages of condolence when Syd died than when either of his parents did.
