Robin Williams on Crack

Some of it was good if i recall, havent seen it for many years though. may find it shite if i watched it again

Anyone seen Green Wing? Misfits?

I like the boosh - love the banter between howard ("jazz maverick") and noel; and the druggy animations and songs ("i'm old greg, do ya want to see my mangina?"). I even like noel fielding's luxury comedy (though much better with chemical help). Not so good stand up i agree (different skills i spose)

Then there's Nathan Barley (both the boosh in it, written by chris morris and charlie brooker). (if you haven't seen this and you like boosh or morris/brooker it's on 4od)

(and what's the name of that 80s-horror-parody with richard ayode and 'dixon bainbridge' from the boosh - that's funny too (and on 4od) - OT from robin williams now...

No, it's just self indulgent wankery.

Agreed, but it pales in comparison to that other thing he did - Luxury Comedy, or something. Possibly one of the worst things to ever happen in the history of mankind. Guy's a tool, just the same as anyone else who considers themselves 'zany'.

There are a load of good UK comedians out there - just not on panel shows: Daniel Kitson, for example, is probably the greatest living stand up still producing material, even if he has gotten a bit up his own arse recently with his theatre work. Jerry Sadowitz churns out hilarious, near the knuckle stuff annually, Nick Helm's funny live (if a bit limited), Miles Jupp, Tim Key, Rob Newman (more polemical than funny sometimes, but still good) and of course there's Stewart Lee.

People seem to have an inferiority complex about British stand ups -American stand up just seems a bit shouty and knuckleheaded most of the time from what I've seen (obvious exceptions, e.g. the great Steven Wright). Louis CK isn't all that, his material is a crock for the most part. "Well done, you said Fag, over and over again - fight the power". I don't mind Doug Stanhope - he's still a prick, but he's a bit more self aware and likeable.

Any you lot who ever liked Robin Williams even a little take my advice: ingest many drugs and view Death To Smoochy. You will thank me promise...

Can I just ingest drugs and play GTA or watch the clouds too?

Arj Barker is one of my favourite comedians from after the time the internet was invented

Jerry Sadowitz. The only gig (music, comedy, whatever) that I can remember walking out of. I was really looking forward to seeing him, he was fucking dreadful.

Sadowitz' act that day - "Dead babies? Haha. Pakis? Haha. Nig nogs? Haha. Dead paki nig nog babies? Haha" Fuck off mate, you're supposed to be funny.

People walk out all the time - there's only been 2/3 of the audience max left by the end of any gig of his I've seen. I've even felt like walking out on occasion.

I think his offensiveness is rare in it can truly be justified by context. He sets himself out to be a bitter lowlife lashing out desperately at everyone and everything, so you laugh at him and his patheticness. He's not ironic in a Jimmy Carr sense - speaking from a sleek position of authority, saying some nasty, bullying things and then just pulling a face.

Yeah you'll see I've posted my distaste for his standup previously itt. I bet phil jupitus hates sitting opposite him on NMTBC.

...People seem to have an inferiority complex about British stand ups...

I'm not really that into much american comedy tbh - the obvious stuff like bill hicks (though he wasn't really an american comedian (well they didn't like him, only us brits)), or george carlin. Much prefer the british ones really.

Stewart Lee is my favourite stand up - yes he does pretentious, guardianista, intellectual stuff, but always while taking the piss out of the same (so you can feel clever and superior at the same time); i love the way he insults the audience and uses their discomfort, and the way he deconstructs comedy.
