Stimulants Dextroamphetamine and oranges

Hi all.

I´m currently taking dextroamphetamine in order to cope with ADHD. So far with great results!
I only take one dose most days, sometimes two.

I get up at 8:30 am
First dose at 10-11 am (I skip this dose a lot, on purpose)
Second dose at 14:30-15:00 pm
Go to sleep between 00:30-1:30 am

The thing is, I like organges a lot and eat 1-2 of them every day.
I know that I should not eat them around the time of dosing as this will diminish the amount of dex that will be absorbed.
I also "know" that oranges (amoung other things) will make the dex effects last longer through alkalizing the urinary tract (right?), thus slowing down elimination.

The thing I dont know is what the best time for eating my beloved oranges would be, considering the above mentioned data.

So, what do you think? I want my dex to "do its thing" for as long as possible while still being able to sleep before 1:30 am.

That's backwards - usually eating oranges or other acidic fruits (cranberry is one of the most notorious) acidifies the urine instead of alkalizing it, causing faster excretion of amphetamine.

The amount of fruit juice you'd have to drink to alter amphetamine's pharmacokinetics is probably so large to be impractical in most cases. From a realistic point of view, pretty much anything below, say, 6 large oranges a day is not worth worrying over, and even then, I wouldn't really be concerned unless you drink 2 litres a day of cranberry cocktail. You get more acidity from a glass of Pepsi than a few oranges.

Don't forget, your stomach is full of hydrochloric acid ;)
 
Dex is a wonderful add drug. I have been on it for 3 years, no side effects or urges to abuse it .. much :)

I like t take an antacid before/after eating something acidic just in case.

Are you sure? I know that it is indeed the case most of the time but take a look at this link http://www.addforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=75220
Oranges ain´t on the list but its mentioned later on in the discussion as a high acid food that actually alkalizes the urinary tract after being metabolized within the body.
 
I wouldn't put too much faith in that list. It looks like it has about zero science behind it and smells strongly of dietary pseudoscience. The site it is cited from has a disclaimer to not use it as medical information, too.

There's some inconsistencies, too. Wheat is fine to consume as a vegetable, but not as whole wheat flour? Why does distilled water, a pH neutral substance, cause urinary alkalization? Tomatoes are fine but tomato sauce is not? Tinned foods, as a whole, are bad? Taking acidic tannins (c.f. instant coffee) are actually alkalizing and coffee is acidifying? "Bragg liquid aminos" (fermented salted soy) is fine but soy sauce (fermented salted soy) is not?

Citrate salts (sodium/potassium citrate) are indeed metabolised to form alkalising agents (bicarbonate), but it does not effect urinary pH. Things like ascorbic acid (vitamin C), phosphoric acid (from colas), quinic acid (from e.g. coffee) and benzoic acid (found in fruits) will, however.

I believe the "gold standard" for urinary acidification is something like ammonium chloride, though. So don't load up on salmiakki before your Adderall.
