CEPS Well Hung Parliament (CEPS Social/Off Topic)

Is anyone keeping track of what's happening in Venezuela with the student protests and the violent crackdown by the government and the Chavista militias? I would start a thread on it but it's extremely hard to copy-paste multiple things on a tablet. Anyway things are really crazy in Caracas right now. 60% inflation is a dangerous thing.

Unrelated: my neighbors are Venezuelan refugees and drunk I almost named my wireless network VIVA CHAVEZ.

This is reminiscent of Tianneman. The PDVSA, Venezuela's state controlled petroleum company has been selling off shares to Chevron for years now. Seeing that the oil industry accounts for 50% of the country's entire GDP and 95% of it's exports, any subtle change in the oil market is going to affect the economy drastically. It's important to remember that Venezeulas inflation rate was up to 115% in the mid-late 90s, although it's doubled in the past year alone.

I don't know if this is the right forum to say this, but where did people get the idea that you're supposed to wait behind the intersection when waiting to make a left turn? You're supposed to be in the intersection. Every day I lose time because of people who don't know how to drive. I feel like a bully when honking at them because they think they're doing what the law requires. It doesn't require you to wait behind the line if the light is green.

It depends. Here, you aren't supposed to enter the intersection unless you can clear it before the light changes. Which means when traffic is backed up, you should wait so you aren't stuck in the intersection and block the traffic going the other way.

I have never seen anyone ticketed for this, even though it's a common occurrence during rush hour.

Anyone here been watching the US remake of Rake? I've seen one episode, it seems quite good (although isn't rating well), it's almost as good as the original

Does anyone know which news sources in Venezuela aren't run by the state?

I looked through some stuff from inside Venezuela and it reminds me of the media in Cuba. Government officials were saying that the videos of cops brutalizing and killing protesters were staged, etc.

I got a letter of support from a local congressman (who is also the chair of a very powerful committee in the HOR) for a grant i'm about to submit worth half a million dollars for a start up business venture in China.

What did you guys do today?

Nice man. I went to a soccer game, had a coffee, learned that I'm going to be an uncle, walked the dog, thought quickly about the solidarity principle and the equivalence principle and what I want to say about them with regards to medical systems, took a nap to a documentary, and did some various other research.

Let us know if you're hiring. I'm bilingual. You never know when you'll need a Spanish speaker in China.

Holy shit it wasn't too long ago you said you wanted to be a politician with an "average income" and often talked about not shipping jobs to China! Oh I hope you're not joking the irony is too great.

We're exporting goods to China.

Dont make assumptions.

//if anyone wants to be a pal and pm any tips, it'd make my life right now.. revo isn't recognizing it, uninstall isn't recognizing it, and even when I do strip it off, it reinstalls itself. I've been on linux for just couple months and feel like a newb on windows now, so fucking embarrassing because this is someone else's laptop I was trying to help with! GGggrrr!!!
