You're Vader, babylonboy?

The Ex-Administrator Vader?

The one and only?

SO, in NA, cunt is mostly used against women, like bitch. In the UK, I would never call a woman a cunt, really, only a man. It's the worst, sure. Except racial slurs. Which is interesting. Why is it worse to call a black man a "nigger" than a white woman a "bitch"?

I'm actually surprised a word filter didn't asterisk that out. That is such a forbidden word in public over here; to an extreme level. I think it's because it carries so much historical servitude baggage. In Canada it's not as intense because we never had slavery, but you still wouldn't say it in front of a black person. Me and my friends use every word in the language as jokes so it's all good with us though. You should watch the South Park episode on that one. Here's the preamble to the theme of the episode:

Anyway, cunt runs the gamut from worst-word-you-can-say to term of endearment. Ask an Aussie.

It carries a joke connotation when call a guy a cunt, but polar opposite with a girl. A girl friend of mine insisted that was the only word she never wanted to hear us say, even though it was used jokingly between guys.

^Not at all. See, I can say "cunt", and it actually implies respect, because the closeness of the relationship means it's ok, or I can say "cunt", and reach for my blade. Context! Nuance!

peppersocks: this is what I mean. A word with a horrible history of oppressing Africans is taboo, but a word with an equally terrible history of oppressing women is, seemingly, fine. Why?

Utter bollocks. 'Cunt' is but the Olde English term for female genitalia. Wasn't ever a swear until relatively recently - it was just the standard word. It's used in all kindsa Ye Olde English literature with no hint of it being offensive whatsoever.

No, definitely not 'fine'. It is very offensive to call a woman a bitch; ten years ago it was #1 and still is with the older generation, but with younger people it's #2. It's still highly offensive and disparaging, and only used on attack, but 'cunt' is another level.

Sure, but I think you can say "bitch" and get away with it. Try saying "nigger" to a black man, I think you'll see the difference I'm talking about. All progress is good, but I think sexism lingers moreperniciously than racism.

Shammy- I was actually talking about "bitch" as the sexist slur.

In relation to the "The word 'cunt' is offensive to women bollocks", just double-checked a FACT! wot I always thought was an actual fact and - according to wiki at least - is indeed both a fact and a FACT! 'Bollock' is an Olde English term for a priest. As proven and upheld by the obscenity trial sparked by the Pistols' Never Mind the Bollocks album title. I almost suspected the story was apocryphal but apparently not.

wiki bollocks said:
Perhaps the best-known use of the term is in the title of the 1977 punk rock album Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols. Testimony in a resulting prosecution over the term demonstrated that in Old English, the word referred to a priest, and could also be used to mean "nonsense". Defence barrister John Mortimer QC and Virgin Records won the case: the court ruled that the word was not obscene.[47]
Tony Wright, a Leicestershire trader, was given an £80 fixed penalty fine by police for selling T-shirts bearing the slogan "Bollocks to Blair". This took place on 29 June 2006 at the Royal Norfolk Show; the police issued the penalty notice, quoting Section 5 of the Public Order Act 1986 which refers to language "deemed to cause harassment, alarm or distress".[48]
Commentators[who?] have made comparisons with the Sex Pistols case,[49] pointing to some of the statements made by John Mortimer QC: "What sort of country are we living in if a politician comes to Nottingham and speaks here to a group of people in the city centre and, during his speech, a heckler replies "bollocks". Are we to expect this person to be incarcerated, or do we live in a country where we are proud of our Anglo-Saxon language?".

EDIT: Then I withdraw my "utter bollocks" call, but will leave this post as it is perhaps of some interest all the same :)

Wanker/tosser have the great hand gesture to accompany them. You can call somebody in the distance a wanker without having to shout. You can call a deaf person a wanker safe in the knowledge they understand what you think of them.

Very good point. I hadn't thought of it like that. You can call a woman a bitch; fight and get over it. You can call a man a fucking asshole; fight and get over it. Call a black man a nigger, and the rift will remain. The white guy will be ostracized if it was public.

I guess the sexist slur does still remain. Next time I'm fighting with a woman I'll try to call her a fucking asshole. :\

Ive been around excessive swearing so much that i find when people use words like idiot or whatever they seem more harsh

At this important stage id also like to add the origin of the V, or two fingered salute was invented by the British to mock the French, funny though how a hand gesture can be classed as "swearing".

Swear words become meaningless really, depends on the situation. My mates a twat when he walks in the door, and a cunt when hes no lighter. Im sure someone who you didnt know though would take offence. There is no scale really, an "asshole" would get some strange looks.

Like "la barbe". Flick the your hand, palm inwards, fingers up and touching your larynx, forward, scraping across your chin, to form a bakwards palm to the person you're angry with. They'll get it. Also the cock-grab and shrug combo. Never fails.

^ Ick. Faaaaaaaaaaaar too Continental for Brit tastes, I'm afraid. You'd just look like you were doing a bad impression of an Italian-American gangsta or summat. Or, worse, an actual Italian 8(

(you know we <3's y'all really, kenny ;))

Y'know I'm sure I actually first saw the 'wanker' gesture given by my deaf mate at school. There are some pure genius gestures in sign language - none of which I can rightly recall but do recall being greatly amused by when the deaf kids at school taught us then at the time :D

'dumb' is a good put down if you put emphasis on the D.

I think my first experience was at a football match as a little'un :D

The only place I've seen the wanker gesture was by Keira Knightley in Bend it like Beckham :P I thought it was pretty genius. I think if I tried using that here the guy would think I was coming on to him though :D
