so i've been smoking meth for about two years and have recently been trying to quit - cutting down on my use: used to be about 5 times a week now 2-3 times. I have only signed up for rehab which still has a two week waiting list.

while i've been off the gear i've been smoking weed everyday and drinking to help keep my mind of cravings, i'm not much for benzos. this has been working well but when i get sick of beers i usually replace them with bourbon and coke mixes but i'm now convinced that when i start drinking these (perhaps due to the caffeine in the coke) i really start thinking about smoking meth again and body literally starts feeling like i'm on it - except without any euphoria and just the shitty side-affects like sweaty palms, dilated pupils, teeth grinding, restlessness, speedy talking and worst of all a heaps 'speed-like' soberness that stops me from feeling pissed or getting stoned.

i remember reading an article on google ages ago with someone saying high sugar-level consumption reminded them of meth even after they had quit for years, something to do with triggering dopamine, increasing heart rate and other similar brain chemicals. anyone had a similar experience? i hate this i just want to forget about it, it makes it harder to quit and keeps me at this weird sober state. :!

If you are smoking 2-3 times a week, I'm sure you are not getting quality sleep.
Those symptoms you are describing are also symptoms of sleep deprivation and the "body load" of a meth comedown.
The caffeine in the coca cola is probably giving you a placebo effect, and the bourbon is lowering your inhibitions and causing slight dehydration.
The weed might be calming you down, but can also add to the jittery feelings you describe.
You say you are trying to quit.
You need to stop smoking meth for a lot longer than a few days in order to get your body clock back in rhythm, otherwise you will continue to be in this "withdrawal" cycle over and over again.
You can stop meth cold turkey without any physical withdrawal, but the psychological withdrawal is a bitch.
So the sooner you stop thinking about it the better.
Thinking that you will have some more in a few days will keep you addicted and this isn't what you want. (read your first sentence of your post).
The weed, "caffeine", and alcohol are not helping you with this decision, in fact it is probably prolonging your objective.

You need to heal your body, by sleeping properly, eating properly and taking some vitamins/minerals eg. chelated magnesium.

This might seem a bit drastic, but it is the only way to quit meth as comfortably as possible.

(On the positive side is that you are "not much for benzos", this is a good thing).

I haven't had any meth for the last 3 years, and stopping cold turkey is what saved me.

Good post, lettuce. I agree, OP you're doing yourself a disservice. Give your body time to get used to being off meth and then your mind will be able to make a much more intelligent decision as to if you truly want to stop for good. But you need to be as healthy as you can to heal.. all the caffeine, weed, and bourbon isn't helping.. even if sometimes it seems that way.

All of this^

And yeah cold turkey is the only way to do it. You can't ween off of meth, or pretty much any stimulant, it actually just makes it more difficult to quit IME, especially since OP is smoking it. There's no severe physical dependence, so there's no point to ween.

And drinking alcohol is definitely gonna make you crave meth, alcohol usually makes ex-stimulant users crave their stimulant of choice, especially cocaine, but it makes me crave meth quite a bit when I drink enough to get properly drunk. It's the dopaminergic activity in it that does it. The best drug for ex-meth users is cannabis, hands down. I smoke it all day everyday, and it makes the cravings go away completely. Then, when I go more than a day without smoking, I get gnarly meth cravings. It's actually why I have a medical card (although I got it for cocaine addiction, not meth, but it works for all stimulants, as well as heroin).

Caffeine by itself will never come close to meth, though so that's either a placebo, or it's the alcohol you're mixing it with that is feeling like a stimulant (or making you crave meth a lot as i stated above, and the craving is somehow causing some other psychological effect that you are equating to meth).

I recommend that you stop drinking alcohol and taking pretty much any other drug aside from cannabis, and start taking 1 gram of l-tyrosine daily (it works on your dopamine, so you can start feeling happy, motivated and alert in a natural-feeling way [it doesn't get you high]) and when you get cravings for meth, smoke some weed.

yeah thanks for the advice - i've stopped drinking for the last couple of days which actually has put my mind of cravings immensely. The cannabis works the best.

meth has been recurring in my dreams heaps and ive been off for 5 days now - struggling to get my head around the thought of 'never using again' though...

Good.

Ummm, it's been 3 years and I still dream about it. Often. And thank God it is only a dream.

struggling to get my head around the thought of 'never using again' though...

Don't think like that. Just for this period try thinking about getting out of this horrible cycle you are/were in.
And NOT about NEVER being able to use it again( this is an automatic why to start craving again ).

I don't smoke meth or anything but don't worry, you should forget about meth soon.

- Try to think about powerful happy childhood memories. (this may completely cure your meth cravings/care for meth).
- Sleep, Get enough sleep and bonus sleep.
- Start getting exercise.
- Eat healthy.
- Listen to some music that makes you happy.
- Replace alcohol with herb tea (Valerian tea) and coke/etc with Coffee.
- Get out more, go out with friends, do sports, join clubs, etc.

And my info was just some guidelines, you already know what your doing but my info was just some "by the side info that may give you ideas/etc"
