I've been reading a lot lately, and I want to know the daily routine of a full-blown junkie.

Can you legitimately work, hold a relationship down, and live a normal life -- or is there a point in where your life just goes upside down?

I was a full blown opiate addict for many years. I never used needles, so I don't know if you'll 'count' me as a full-blown junky. But I did use opiates every day, was physically dependent. I held down a full time job, a long term relationship, family, etc. It all went to shit when I could no longer afford it and tried to stop on my own. But I maintained for a good 6 years. So, to answer, it is possible for awhile..but at some point, shit will hit the fan.

What's the daily routine like for someone addicted to H?

Do you wake up in the morning and take it first thing in the morning? How many re-doses per day are typical?

You either save something for the morning or wake up sick and then go score. Depends on your work schedule and how long it takes to go pick up more.

Unless you have a good deal of money saved up or work a fairly high paying job, it's only a matter of time before you're using more than you can afford. Once the money struggles start it's only a matter of time before you're forced to stop or forced to start middle-manning or selling or doing something illegal for extra income.

It's a pretty miserable time, but since dope takes the sick away you still end up enjoying parts of it.

It's possible to hide an H addiction and function normally, as long as you can support your habit with your income. Yet this lasts only so long, your tolerance will grow to the point where you spend all you earn just to keep well, and beyond that. Sooner or later family, friends or coworkers will also catch on, and you'll likely loose your job and your means for maintaining and leading a "normal" life along with it.
Also, you'd need very reliable suppliers, for the reasons above, you simply can't afford getting sick or wasting too much time looking for stuff.

So, depending on how good you are at hiding and keeping your tolerance in check, it may work for months up to several years, but ultimately you'll have to pay the piper.

^^That's a matter of opinion. I'd say, for the most part, no it's not worth it. Using heroin is not really an experience that you take anything meaningful from, like you might experience with certain other substances...psychedelics, marijuana etc. It's a great high while you're on it, but it kind of just turns your whole life into a blur when you're using it daily for a long time. It's a full time commitment, that's for sure!

Are you considering using Heroin?! I would advise against it, particularly if you're inexperienced with opiates. Any opiate can be highly addictive, but if you want to feel what heroin feels like and you have no tolerance to opiates, there's much safer, easier alternatives than heroin that will pretty much give you the same high. However, if you have an addictive personality, any opiate is probably a bad idea, IMO.

There's plenty of movies/books/blogs etc. that pretty accurately portray the life of a junky. Hell, this whole site is loaded with info about it. Check out the heroin discussions in some of the other forums, you can sit there and read about junkies for days!

If you can keep a consistent dealer who does not run on "drug dealer time," it makes it a lot easier. Heroin WILL come first when you are physically addicted, and if you are waiting around for your drugs at the expense of important things in your life, things will inevitably go wrong.

Heroin kills your sex drive, especially for guys, so your relationship will suffer in that you just won't have meaningful sex that often. As well, you'll be in a three-way relationship with your partner and with heroin (it feels like a love-affair), and you will almost always love the heroin more.

A job is possible, but you'll have to find a way around any drug-testing that may go on. As well, it should be something that you can muster through occasionally while sick, because it's going to happen.

Good advice right here, mentions many points I left out, thanks!

I just tried to answer impartially, of course starting a habit is a dumb thing to do. With heroin, there's the added stress of stigma and legal issues, but any opiate addiction is able to fuck you over.

I agree 100%....I might write a blog about what my daily routine was....I held a job for years and maintained a hefty dope habit for both me and my girlfriend, and it all did come crashing down. I lost my job, my car, everything....There I was faced with the decision of commiting serious crimes everyday or detoxing and going through rehab, I had no choice....It just gets so fucking expensive!!

You can hold and job and use heroin daily, for sure. Just as everyone has mentioned though, you will inevitably end up using more than you can afford on your income and that's when things get fucked up. But you'd be surprised how resourceful us junkies can be. Also, is it even worth it? I would say, yes and no. When you have a physical dependency on heroin you get pleasure from the relief a shot/dose brings when you're sick.

If you're managing to successfully use off and on without having a habit, you enjoy the drug for different reasons rather than the relief alone that it provides when you're hanging out. Like RedLeader mentioned, it will fuck your sex drive up especially for guys with long term use and this will cause problems in the relationship (if you're in one). But if you are managing to use H recreationally you can have some great sex and the drug is much more enjoyable, in heaps of different ways.

Someone always once told me, always plan for tomorrow (with regards to ensuring you have a dose for the morning), and I try to follow that advice by leaving a small shot for the morning, or at least having some benzos on hand or just anything really to tide me over until I can score. But at some point you will use up all your shit in a day and wake up sick, and then you won't be able to score for some random reason (dealer's phone is off, no money and no one will give you credit, etc.). Welcome to the life of a heroin addict. It is definitely a full time occupation, and as RedLeader said; a love affair, that becomes a third partner in the relationship. You will put heroin over the other persons needs and feelings and communication will fade certainly.

It's not fun.

This isn't going to be a popular view. But I've never lost a job due to smack. Maybe it's my industry (journalist) but you can get away with working high. But it will get you in the end. I don't slam (heroin anyway) but when the sickness kicks in, you're in trouble. I've had to run to the chemist for immodium and call my dealer for bags to get me through the next couple of days. SO yeah, if you want, you can operate. But man, what a life! I'm lucky as all I have to do is chat and make articles which if you've done for a while ain't hard. But when you start hurting halfway through the day (and can't smoke in your business premises) you've got problems. I used to justify it by thinking how many journos live like this. But it's no life mate.
You can do it for a while depending on your industry but it ends in tears (or reliance on subs) so steer clear. Been there and been lucky. Luck runs out and I jumped off just in time before questions were asked. But some questions were asked. don't complicate your life with that shit. It's not worth it seriously (speaking from personal experience)

Gongrats for leaving the H alone, I hope you're. better now.

For me, it took two years of smoking and sniffing until I was caught in the act, nobody knew anything before that. Especially sniffing is.just too easy to hide, you just have to have the money, a reliable supply, can't afford to get sick and need enough time to get yourself stocked up on gear, all without.anybody noticing.
Oh, you also have to be really careful. regarding higher doses, nodding out in the wrong scenario would be a dead giveaway and mean the end of. the charade.

It looks doable, but is completely unsustainable for longer periods of time IRL in my opinion. The vast majority of us simply cannot control opiates, me included. I wish you all the best for recovery.

^Thanks man! I appreciate it. Although, the only reason I haven't used it in 15 months is pretty much do to my location. I've switched to drinking, which in many ways, I believe is worse. Financially, I could've continued with my habit, barely! Who knows how long that would've lasted. I was missing work and leaving early all the time to go cop. I wasn't eating much. It took a few years of going strong with it, but people WILL eventually notice and ask questions, like you said!

captaincave ... IMO its a whole different and much more ferocious monster when you iv heroin vs smoke/snort
captainheroin... i didnt lose my sex drive either just my ability to orgasm while using (female perspective)

i think i was able to kind of keep a habit going because whenever i didnt have dope i always had suboxone (prescribed)
however after a certain point even if you take a suboxone you still get pretty sick (but not near as sickas you would have gotten)

note - i am clean now and so far doin pretty good :)

I've just always WANTED to try Heroin -- I've had friends tell me to try it once in a while, and i've read don't because you will get hooked.

Do you always have a supply or do you run out and scurry to find more H?

Dude in no way has my life gotten better when I said hey might as well get back on the dope again.
If you wanna get fucked up and be sick and have to have this one terrible drug take everything around you and squeeze the life force out of you all just to do more of it until you eventually fall out in a Mcdonalds bathroom... If that sounds fun then yes, heroin will be there for u.
