Grimes played at Donatella's new store, and she looked fucking amazing.

^1st shot is hawtness!
/can't say i have much liking for any 'victorian' stylings tho ;(

that's too bad because the collection is quite beautiful and what i imagine is "very classic chanel."

high fashion and grimes belong together. elie saab used "Genesis" in their s/s 13 show. girl must be so excited with life.

W Magazine came in the mail today. hate it, but it's hard not to page through it. being there and all. has a terrible picture of daphne and lindsey together. would have thought that impossible. also has an awesome four-page fold out from the above chanel cruise ad campaign. i can't find it online, but it's a combo with the topless cara on one end of the bed and the androgynous pretty girl way on the other end. i ripped it out quite successfully. really wanna put it across the top of my bedroom window. can't let myself do that.

had the new Lula for a second before returning it because they sent the wrong cover. i took a little peak, and there is an editorial with the girl from Moonrise Kingdom. didn't really look at it. saving it. wasn't right with the with the wrong cover.

i've been reading the latest Purple Fashion. first issue i've gotten of it. bought it a while ago along with the Numero with lindsey and edie on the cover. at first glance i swore i'd never spend another penny on a magazine other than Lula and Self-Service. Numero actually is glossy trash, but Purple Fashion has been growing on me. have it in my car and read it during break at work when it's too cold to walk around outside.

why not, just not your thang? as far craftsmanship is concerned, that era(& Elizabethan) takes the cake IMO as far as attention to detail, which can easily go 'over the top', or be lacking in texture and lines enough, to be the odd combination of both tacky and blaise...

"fuck retro anything, fuck your tattoos, fuck all you junkies and fuck your short memory"
lol but seriously I tend to dislike *anything* vintage/retro/etc. I mean, there are certain "classics" that I can respect and admire, but they're *specifics* and not genres (ie, I can dig CERTAIN old vehicles, but not just "old vehicles"). I honestly don't get how ppl can favor old styles/tastes that've been so thoroughly improved upon, but that's one just man's opinion (and you know what they say about opinions).

it's not vintage; it's a 2012-13 collection. mashing old and new. that's not a very novel concept either, but it's a worthwhile example.

you should give it a chance and check out the show on youtube. one of the best there is. HD.

i know it's not vintage i just meant that the parts of style they're 'borrowing' from the 'ole days are not my style (and kill teh rest of what they're trying to do)
/*will* give that vid a looksee tho

^^ that's such a great shot. ugh what a great collection. i can't even imagine what grimes' life is like right now. she's on the cover of v magazine spain:

as for "fashion as vintage/old/whatever"...there is really nothing new under the sun. marie Antoinette wore dresses. women wear dresses now. sure they have different shapes, but it's still a dress. look at that double breasted jacket. that's some classic shit. Chanel will still be making double breasted jackets in 2030. as they were in 1940. maybe they'll have IP address on them, or scrolling twitter links, but it will still be double breasted with beautiful buttons and lapels. i think maybe you're missing it... collections build upon what the house has already done, and puts them in a new light. even brands that "go a whole new direction" are still recognized because why start from scratch? fashion isn't like technology, or cars, or anything like that. it's fluid, and fickle, it moves in stops and starts. cars are about transportation. fashion is about seduction. why risk something as serious as seduction on a whim? fashion. that crazy lady from the tents who is NOT betsey johnson said it's like star wars for women.

eta: i like purple a lot, but are all those tits totally necessary? i mean, i love tits, but it's distracting sometimes. i blame terry richardson and rankin for this. and those guys aren't even good photographers. give me jurgen teller tits over richardson tits anyday. same for you, rankin.

eta: Versace is picking up that good shit lately. here's Lana modeling for them:

I'm not 'missing' anything, i just do not have a taste for styles that include *intentional* nods to vintage styles. Just because 'clothes are still clothes and always will be' doesn't mean that all designs pay homage to the clothing of yesteryear. That line does, and I dislike that about it - i'm missing nothing.

/just because someone doesn't share your tastes doesn't mean they "don't get it".

you're losing me. those chanel clothes aren't really 'intentional nods to the clothes of yesteryear', they are just styled that way. do you know what i mean?

vogue does an editorial with an alice and wonderland theme. turns out there is a lot of louis vuitton on all the models. do you assume louis vuitton only makes alice in wonderland clothes for the 1940s? or do you assume that's just how they were styled?

i'm unsure how you're not getting me. Yes, they are "intentional nods to the clothes of yesteryear". There is a strong, evident theme of such that is unmistakable - explaining that away with "they're just styled that way" doesn't make sense. "Styled that way" is precisely what I am speaking of.

Your louis/alice q's are silly, and the fact that my taste isn't abundantly clear by now baffles me (though I suspect it is clear, and this is just the way people voice their divergent tastes). I'm going to make this super simple, k?

With regard to style, I dislike:

Unsure how my explanations didn't get that across before, but hopefully now we're on the same page ;)

i like spinach. but i know i'm missing out big time when it comes to mussels and oysters.

that house looks pretty 80s. would definitely drink coffee in it.

the tits are great. so is the cover.

i know it's wrong, but i like terry richardson photos. mostly because he doesn't do anything stupid to them. they are just pictures of the girls. and he gets them looking fun. maybe his biggest talent is having a name in the industry that lets him photograph who he wants and without having to ruin the photos after. a bummer he so rarely has the girls dressed up, but not his thing. he takes alota pictures of lindsey.

i like jurgen teller more though.

congrats to claire on the cover. if that's really her.

edit:
after reading your post again, i think you comment is about the magazine in general. not the cover in specific. if that's the case, i agree. there is too much nakedness in it. at least in the one issue i've seen. gives it a bit of a of a Mirage magazine feel. or what i imagine the inside of Vice magazine to look like. but ali's nakedness on the cover is good stuff.

lol i like spinach and oysters. still don't like olives.

just because i dislike styles that have 'throwback' qualities doesn't mean i'm close-minded.

fuck no it doesn't. post some fashion you do like.

yeah, i mean the magazine in general. i have the purple coffee table book, which spans like 1990 - 1997 or something, and basically it's just naked chloe sevingy the whole time. skin as fashion? i bought two copies and destroyed one.

i haven't seen clothes that i like a lot lately. that's not true. i really like band of outsiders, and the fact that they use p'roids for all their campaigns. the last one was Draco Malfoy & that one ginger from Harry Potter, this one is Amy Adams.

bmxxxx -- it's probably because i don't like you in CE&P i'm not giving you much of an inch, and because you haven't posted any fashion that you like before being negative about other things. put it up, man.
