SSRIS = loss of sex drive?

Im not going to stop them dead on the spot. IV not touched them for a week now because of a rave a went to last which I had mdma selfish reason to stop ano dumb ass a no that two but when its comes to mdma/ex I can't say no to them. One side effect this week of stopping is serious aggression and bad temper swings. Im ringing the docs in the morning and go from there. Thanks for all the import thoughts and opinions guys appreciate it :-)

Don't stop them when you're planning on taking drugs hun, that won't do anything to enhance them. A week is not long enough for your brain to go back to normal. Just stay on them no matter what, you're messing with your brain chemistry and it's really dangerous with depression. Glad you're talking to your doctor though :)

Im nit intending of taking drugs n e more there part of the reason why im on the ssris. When I take them I know they do something because like I said this last week I have been hard work! Thanks for the support guys least I now know its a common thing and not just me

When you see a chart like that you realize how important this enzyme is to keeping you in homeostasis ie Alive.

Serotonin Syndrome doesn't sound fun.
OK, you would probably think hmmm is this Cocaine going to react with that Medication I'm on that I've heard bad stories about ?
But to see Tramadol up there all red is quite scary.

And to answer the OP's question.
After 6 weeks, I was dead from the waist down..
Now, I am a single guy atm, but It's still no fun, when you don't desire surfing the internet fun <ahem>

yeah i must admit after reading that chart it is pretty damn scary but handy has fuck though to be honest! serontin syndrome is dangerous fuck!
still looks like im have to ride this out and go with the flow! after all i geuss beating depression is lil bit more important!
cheers guys :)

I was on numerous anti-depressants with the last one being Zoloft.... at 150mg I decided to stop taking it when they kept suggesting for it to be raised to a higher dose. 150mg's was already high enough and then they wanted it at 200mg even though I kept telling them I felt no different than before, meaning a better mood. In the end all it did was make me more depressed, have bad dreams and lots of other side effects. However, this was not un-common between anti-depressants with me. I'm not saying all anti-depressants are bad or they do not have any benefits. It's always different between one person to another. Now responding on my sex-drive... I feel as if my sex-drive was already low because of the depression and it still remained low when I was on the Zoloft.... To be honest it may have even gotten worse when I started taking the Zoloft but when I was on that crap I didn't want to do anything but lay in my bed or start a fight for no reason. It caused me to have bad mood swings.... Now that I'm off it I still don't want to have sex but then I found someone who I truly care about and am happy around and because I am happy with them then my sex-drive is normal or even much higher than it use to be. The depression and anti-depressants both play a major role.

I gotta feeling I maybe on a few of them. Because all though yes I know there doing something but at the sane time I think there not I have mood swings as well and still keep getting bad anxiety at night. How long was you on the Zoloft for?

I've been on some of them. I got over the sexual side effects even on prozac. On the other ones I either didn't get them or they just eventually went away. However I also have a very, very high sex drive. Lexapro actually made my sex drive get very high and skyrocket but I'm not manic/bipolar and before I was on it I was depressed and had a low sex drive.

Also when I was on prozac I took LSD and I still tripped very hard and it was one of my most intense LSD experiences either. A friend of mine who was on Effexor took some mushrooms and he didn't trip as hard on them.

I am on a MAOI - Nardil

I have spent years on other drugs, ssri's mostly. Totally destroyed my sex drive. I came here to post about it then saw this thread. Whats the point

Wow, I'm surprised to hear so many bad stories.

I've been on 20mg Citalopram (generic for Celexa) since 2007. Still on it.

My personal experience is that at first, my sex drive went down a little bit. But after a couple of months it went back to normal.

For me, having a stable mood and not having affective symptoms was more important than my sex drive. Like someone already said, without the medication I am way worse. I probably wouldn't be alive today had it not been for SSRI's. But hey, maybe I'm an exception.

My advice to dnb.....tell your doctor about your loss of sex drive and for chrissakes, don't stop taking them without telling your doctor first! Some people here are telling you to quit taking them. Don't listen to them. They don't know you, they don't know your diagnosis (other than that you're depressed), and they don't know what condition you are in.

Many times the withdrawal symptoms from these types of drugs can bring on a sudden onset of not only the initial side effects, but also your depressive symptoms. This is your brain we're talking about. Chemicals and neurons. You have been on the drug 6 weeks. Your brain and body is already accustomed to it. If you suddenly quit, your depression could relapse more intensely than when you first had it. DON'T FUCK AROUND WITH YOUR BRAIN!!

It is okay if you decide to stop taking these meds, but you have to get off of them under the supervision of the prescribing doctor. He or she may need to reduce the dose slowly over time or give you a different drug to temporarily counteract the side effects that will hit you from quitting Citalopram.

For some people, these drugs can mean the difference between living and dying. Use your best judgment and please call your doctor in the morning if you have already quit taking them. Also, please keep us posted and pm if you want. I'm one of the success stories.

Fantastic post.
