So i kicked a 5yr opi habit almost 2 years ago..but now its almost harder to make myself want to quit cigarettes because its in no where anywhere near as bad on my current situation as being a dope fiend, so i dont want to quit 100%.
Does anyone know any simple mind tricks to plant a seed to get me to really wanna quit? i feel like mind over matter is really true and easier if you can do physical things to help with it...

*PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND IF ITS SOME ELITIST, STUCK UP RESPONSE*

spend some time really researching the negatives and scare yourself into wanting to quit?

I am sure you know the neganites, but actually spend sometime reading about it all maybe.

I'm in the same boat for sure. Been off opiates 16 months now. But can't quit the cigarettes. It's hard when my dad smokes 3 packs a day and gets on my ass for spending <price discussion> a pack. So I tried smoking his generic shitty brand and it slowed me down a little but not enough to make me quit yet.

Maybe go spend an hour at a facility where people are dying of emphysema? I know that sounds weird, but my own dad passed away six years ago from smoking related emphysema. Honestly, there is nothing more convincing than watching someone struggle hard for every single breath they take.

I am not sure what else...I know it will be hard to quit if the desire to do so is not 100%! Good luck to you!

You said it yourself man, if your not 100% set on quitting than its a dead end road. Make it your mission. Get disgusted with every cigarette you light up, think about what the smoke is doin to yer lungs throat mouth. When you get in that mentality and get disgusted by it itll be alot easier.

The only other thing i can think of is getting sick yourself lol.

Figure out WHY you smoke. Its a choice so why do you do it. Im not talking down at you i smoke too. Maybe Try going with an e-cig and see where that goes. if your not ready to quit your gonna fail, lol plain and simple but an e-cig is a hell of a lot better fo ya and it tastes the same (too me).

Also if you choose not to, try rolling your own. for me its like $7 for a case and a half. Get tubes not papers btw.

Good luck with whatever you choose, ik this isnt really answering your question(s) but you dont sound ready and everyones different, and these, if u choose to keep smoking, are at least healthier alternatives lol xP

Researching the problems associated is a good answer. Also don't light up a cigarette and smoke it in auto pilot mode. Actually think of the consequences when you smoke, you need to be consciously thinking of why your smoking if it's that bad for you. Also is the 3min light headed buzz even worth anything. At least with other drugs you get hours worth of a nice pleasurable high. Cigs are just a very short speedy buzz, total crap Imo. That's why I can smoke on and off and never get hooked.

I do this. I am repulsed everytime I smoke a cigarette, which through willpower, I have been able to eliminate from my daily routine. I still get cravings all the time, whenever I smell someone else's cigarette I try to think "that's so disgusting" but I never really react that way, I feel like it's very hard to control my envy when I smell smoke. That being said, it's sheer willpower by which you quit smoking. The longer you go without smoking, the easier it gets, that much I can say for sure. If you hang out with people who chain-smoke, honestly just don't put yourself in those situations where you know they're going to be smoking if you know you can't turn them down. When you are able to say no consistently, you are over the worst of it. I still feel mixed feelings turning down cigarettes, but I just think to myself "do the right thing" and "if I say yes, I will die a slow and painful death. Lung, throat, mouth, larynx, blood, brain, cardiac, renal, hepatic, pancreatic, dermal and other CANCERS. STROKES. BLOOD CLOTS. EMPHYSEMA. ASTHMA. OXYGEN TANKS. INHALERS. IV CHEMOTHERAPY. DIALYSIS. RADIATION. POISON. PAIN." That about does it for me. The tricky thing about cigarettes is that you don't really feel the damage being done as you inhale, giving users a false sense of security.

I don't even think that tobacco gum and patches are the way to go, nicotine withdrawal isn't the worst thing in the world but we smokers act like it is. Reality check. Actions have consequences. The worst thing in the world is the day you get the diagnosis and can't breathe on your own anymore. See the following quoted post, I highly recommend you do the following:

in the same boat too. i quit everything for a good 6 months, could never kick cigarettes. in a way it almost got me to relapse as smoking cigarettes brought back memories of drug use everytime i light up.

i strongly discourage the use of e-cigs. they actually made my smoking habit worse.

you need to be 100% on quitting or nothing, otherwise it will be extremely difficult to do so.
