Has anyone had any success with using herbs for their pain?

I just found about 30 different ones and don't know where to start!
Although I do recommend kava. Its super relaxing and is great by itself or as an opiate potentiator.

Ive tried oodles with no luck but every person is different and a lot of us have very different reasons for pain. I hope someone who has had success can answer that for you. I personally am going to try kratom. Never tried kava tho.

Strangely enough, I have even worked in a health food store and learned a lot about herbs and have only tried a few. You have to be careful. They are a type of medication and do interact with different drugs. So be careful if you try new herbs. Always check to see if there are unwanted side effects.

Trust me i have done all the research on ketamine, i cannot be treated with it in this country though, i would have to go to germany for the ketamine infusion coma treatment.

I have tried generics and the original oc (which i am on at the minute) i found no difference between any of the different makes to be honest with you

Does the new formulation work well for you without letting it soak (to full size) ?
I dont see how they would help w/o manipulating them ???
Edit: There are original oxycontin at the pharmacies ??

Opioid tolerance and BuTrans patches

I have been wondering this for a long time now. When I was looking for a pain mangement Dr, 95% of them didn't want to prescribe painkillers, they just wanted to put me on a patch, BuTrans, which contains buprenorphine, the strengths of the patches are 5mcg, 10mcg, and 20mcg. http://www.butrans.com/.

At that time My total intake of Oxycodone was about 110mg. Now I was thinking wouldn't wearing this patch put me into Withdrawals? Only one DR wanted to add Oxycodone along with the patch for BT pain, just 5mg though, 20mg daily.

Im not sure if Im thinking it out correctly. I know my current PM Dr offers the patch since I see brochures for it, but never once was it brought up to me. Of course this PM Dr switched things up, he added Opana 60mgs Daily, along with Roxicodone, 120mgs daily.

It seems like the patch is for people with little tolerance, but I feel most of those Dr's just didn't get it, which is why I refused it all those time and kept looking for another Dr. Maybe its because I'm to young to be in pain, they didn't want to give me pills, but pain doesn't pick an age nor did the auto-immune disease I have.

wow ... i sure can related to u you doomed2p,
I use a tens unit (the thing that sends out shocks) daily for a full hour and I have found that it does help. I have injuries from very bad auto accident that happened years ago, the pain has gotten worse each year. I have something called "sponylolesthesis", a slipped disc, a disc that is deteriorating and then several pinched nerves. My arthritis and lyme disease do not help.

I have recently had 2 nerve blocks, and was very disappointed in how they only worked for a very short time. My insurance will only cover 1 more this year....so I am trying to put it off till September (birthday n wedding anniversary i would like to have relief from the pain).

the nature of the pain that I have is like a leg cramp...a really BAD NONSTOP leg cramp that cramps worst in right leg/right hip/lower back. Then it goes down left leg too but it is not as intense on left side.

currently my RXs include

(6) 10 mg vicodin a day, and those just take the edge off. it takes 3 with coffee and a full hour on the tens unit shocker thing to get up in the morning.
I also take an Nsaid pain releiver called nabumetone (1000 mg)
I do take tramadol sometimes. About 200 mg day.

I have been under the care of a psychiatrist for a long time, (10 years prior to auto accident, 20 years total)
and i am in the process of adjusting those meds
substituting doxypin for seroquel...which should help with the pain, and also i have been trying to lose weight. have lost 30 lbs since feb. want to lose 30 more. my doctor says the seroquel, even the low dose i am on for ptsd, makes it very difficult to lose weight.
reducing my xanax from 4mg day to 3 mg day
and i still take 150 mg zoloft.

other meds...low dose of lisinopril for blood pressure, and levothyroxine for underactive thyroid...omeprazole for acid reflux. yep its a pharmacy up in here.

with all that i still stay in a lot of pain, and i feel i am about 1 year away from disability ...something has gotta give.

YES I supplement my pain meds with opitates, oxys when i can find them . 3 of the 10mg oxycontins, the time release kind- REALLY help my current regimine. But they are so hard to find. So i snort or plug about a bag of h a day. can't afford any more than that. I don't IV. I would ...but I won't let myself even try it. I know myself too well.
YES I have legitimate severe non-stop pain. But I am also an addict. i know if I shoot up that would be the end of me.
gotta go to work now...
and my legs are throbbing.
it gets old, having to hustle evedry day to find something , anything to knock this pain down even 50%. It costs too much money. It is risky. I just hate it.

Anyway- prayers to you , as it sounds like your pain is worse than I can imagine. I really feel for you, and I hope you find a solution, and soon.

honeypie

Yeh they are the original oc's I am in the uk. They help with my pain a little, now on 160mg a day, 40 of this is oxycodone ir. I am hoping to try a different regime when I see my new dr in sept.

Thanks for the message honey. I have a tens unit for my back but I cannot tolerate the sensation on my affected areas, lightest touch brings me agony. the scs implant attaches a battery direct onto the spinal column and is then fed leads down the affected areas. But thing is they rarely get the right nerves so it just causes more pains amoungst other things going wrong. but i am willing to try it.

Gotcha...I was explaining earlier on a different thread about 9 years ago that I spotted (what I thought were 20mg tablet shells) of the original OC's in my stool (uhgg) but since I wasnt getting pain relief, I investigated further w/ rubber gloves & discovered 2 - 20mg tablets undissolved. I had to cut fresh tabs' in half for them to work !! I remember telling my Dr. about & he seemed like he had heard it before.

Edit: My Dr. didnt even consider prescribing me the new OC (pebbles)...

^ We get the OC's here too. Last time I got a script for them my doctor gave me this big lecture on how "they are bigger than heroin in Australia"
Ummm, thats nice, but rather irrelevant....oh and thanks for the 4 day low dose script, so insulting and almost not worth getting!!!

honeypie3x3 I also have a bizarre medication schedule, with some street drugs thrown in there, my week is something like this:
day 1 . Opiates (Pst, dhc, tramadol, occasionally morphine or oxy)
day 2 . Diazepam or similar
day 3 . Diazepam
day 4 . Kava, maybe some alcohol
day 5 . Kava
day 6 . Alcohol
day 7 . Opiates

Does anyone else have a "medication" regime like this? Im really unhappy with it, but its what I do just to survive since doctors are shit! I also take gabapentin and wear a clonidine patch daily and take chlorpromazine at night to sleep. Usually I would take more opiates but Im trying to get my ridiculous tolerance down =D
Really interested in a TENS unit, where does one get one to try out?

honeypie, you are so right in staying away from shooting up, stick to plugging/snorting/whatever works for you. After I shot up last year, what I really crave when Im in horrible pain is some IV morphine. Luckily I have stupid amount of self control ;)

Pain love & hugs xxx

I prefer Watson brand everything. Especially Soma!! Have I mentioned that enough times ;)

Tens units are usually prescribed by Drs here. Mine had no out of pocket costs and they just send me new pads every month that are free as well.

Hey man, I'm going to merge you with the Pain Management megathread alright? I think you'll get better replies in there.

I totally feel for you on the biased healthcare we receive as a result of our youth.

Buprenorphine (dont know about suboxone) along with medium to high doses of oxycodone will not put you in PW's when presribed together. I have a year of presribed proof...

This is answering your first quote...not this one.

I don't know why I'm thinking that then? I do know in the prescribing info for BuTrans is does mention to proceed with caution with opioid tolerant people because it can cause Precipitated withdrawals.

I know...but what is in black & white, compared to what I have experienced in pain relief are on two different plains.
It may be that persons on large amounts of opiates, taking a first time dose of bupe' may experience ill effect. But there are too many variables... Bupe' is still largely misunderstood
Edit: I do know that if you are on methadone & take bupe' on top you will just wish you were dead
that is a fact...needle users have a hell of a rough time with it also.
