The Benzodiazepine Thread v. IV

I used to use xanax recreationally, and I think the reason it was recreational for me is that I have an anxiety disorder.Taking 6-8mg of xanax would leave me in a blissed out care-free state. It took away all the worries that constantly intrude on my thoughts pretty much all day every day.

However I've given a 2mg bar to several friends in the past (who've never tried a benzo) and they just fell asleep,or got into kind of stumbling drunk kind of state, and didn't really get what the hype was about.

I would say I am prone to anxiety but not to such an extent that I need meds. My response to benzo's is about halfway between those two states. Stumbling drunk state but also relaxed and happy to be relaxed. I was reading some where that some benzo's can reduce the amount of cortisol you produce. I think this is one of the reasons I like them. I think any euphoria I get is secondary and more a sense of relief from stress.

Hells bells I would love to watch that. I just finished a chapter on Benzos in my pharm tech training. Slort, do you think there will be a way I can stream it in Cali?

I really doubt it would teach you anything except how pissweak and embarrassing the Australian mainstream media is... ;)

@justsayknow That sounds about right. I think any kind of euphoria I get isn't exactly euphoria, more like just extremely happy to be feeling relaxed and calm,as I'm almost never in that state usually.

A friend told me about a herbal supplement called Relora she has been taking, and said it stopped her panic attacks altogether.I'm not sure of the severity of her anxiety though. It's meant to be a daily supplement for anxiety and stress relief and regulates cortisol levels. It also claims to be a weight loss aid because of the cortisol control. No idea how much it helps, but there is a lot of positive reviews for it on Amazon.I may buy some when I have some spare cash to see if it's effective at all *shrug*

I have a question for anyone who has experience with oxazepam. It is apparently one of the most commonly prescribed benzo's in australia so someone here must have some ideas. My question is: Is there anyway to hasten the onset? Will using it sublingually make it come on faster? I quite like it but the fact that it takes 2-3 hours to have effect means it takes a bit of planning to use it correctly. Its probably a good thing because there is less of that instant reward when dosing but I'm wondering if I'm wasting my time thinking about taking it sublingually? I think it is metabolised in a different way to most benzos ie not through the liver or "Hepatic oxidisation" whatever that is.

lmao @slortaone I've never actually snorted xanax...didn't think it would make much difference to just chewing on it? But yes, addictive as hell!

Lol slortaone I wasn't planning on it ;-) It tastes so nasty on the occasions I chew it rather than swallow it with water,I can't imagine how bad it would be up the nose *makes a yucky face*

yeah its definatly in the top three worst tasting drugs ive ever tried, possibly the worst. fuck even chewing them, there is no need... swallow the pills whole and they take effect within 20 minutes. chewing them up just means you gotta deal with that horrid taste and possibly lose some of the drug in your teeth or whatever. just swallow your xanax!

i dunno about xanax, but i'm fairly sure most drugs i've taken sublingually have been faster acting than if i'd taken them orally.

i've used this ROA with various drugs, but i seem to remember valium as a pretty good one to dissolve under the tongue.
buccal absorption and quicker breakdown in the gut (i guess?) would probably mean that chewing the pills would make them absorb faster, which (in the case of panic attacks or severe anxiety etc) could be useful for a lot of people.
i suppose i see unpleasant tastes as one of those worthwhile discomforts in some cases...san pedro cactus juice being an extreme example.

Yeah I've done sublingual with Valium before and it worked a bit faster but it has a fairly fast onset anyway. I doubt that the oxazepam/serapax would take longer to break down in the stomach than any other tablet so I'm guessing the 2- 3 hour onset time is something to do with the way its metabolised or the way it works on the brain. I will give it a go in anycase.

i always chew my clonaze and sublingual the chunks deff helps absorption when i feel hell anxious, given kpin's long ass come up ~2hrs

I find clonaz dissolves quickly under the tongue without any chewing required.

On another topic: did anyone see the article in today's The Age online about alprazolam abuse?

Interesting to finally see the severe addiction and withdrawal issues being acknowledged in the mainstream media.

AN INVISIBLE but potentially lethal epidemic involving the anti-anxiety drug Xanax is unfolding across Australia, the nation's top legal, medical and drug treatment experts have warned.

Xanax, which has the generic name alprazolam, is commonly prescribed to treat anxiety but experts say that it is as addictive as heroin and harder to stop using.

*checks out the last few pages of discussion of this thread*

yep, ausdd being manipulated in the media again with cyclical information.

Didnt really see any of the story on TT. The last 2 mins maybe. Theres no doubt alpraz has massive abuse potential but there is also no doubt that the media will completely and irresponsibly fuck up theyre reporting of it. With one sided arguments and biased 'experts'.

With regard to the Sunday Night article I don't see how they propose to make it harder to get, maybe in the US it's handed out like candy but I haven't seen too much of it around, pretty sure temazepam, valium and serapax are more common. Perhaps they need to do an article about SSRI's being over prescribed or dexamphetamine.

Also those prices in the US sound like bullshit to me.
