The pain clinic forgot to increase my dose this month -______-

Luckily, they told me I could call in my refill a week early to compensate. They are constantly "making a note of that" so that next time I call it's taken care of. This is what they said last month when they increased my dose, "I'll put a note in here to have your dose increased".

Here we are, no dose increase! Where are they writing these notes I wonder...

Tri, as I've said to you privately before, your insurance company is trash when it comes to quality patient care and anything but the bottom line. Its kinda the obvious downside to HMO healthcare when you have a serious health issue, you are at the mercy of the system instead of the free market. Sorry to hear they are fucking with you again bro...

Thanks man, Maybe one day I can afford compassionate healthcare.

I'm sorry you're going through this, Tri. Hope things get better.
I just went a week without meds and had completely convinced myself I had meningitis :/
Amazing, got meds at 1:30 a.m. yesterday, and today I feel pretty much back to normal. Thank God I had a mild week pain wise ...
I'm noticing though, that it is taking me longer and longer to get back into the swing of things after any period of abstinence. I used to be ok as soon as I had a couple of doses. Now, although I'm much better, I still feel like I have a hangover of sorts.
Anyone else here who can relate? Don't know if it matters, but my med is Oxycodone ir 150mg/day.

Thanks for the kind words! Can you elaborate on your hangover?
Sure! Very bad, throbbing headache ...mostly on the back of my head and the top. My eyes are still very sensitive to light (which was the case during wd, along with sensitivity to sound ). Just still sort of out of it mentally.
I'm Wondering if this is something related to my ever growing tolerance. You were really there for me and helped pulled me through the last time I went through that... But this time I was unable to communicate with anybody..
Everything is getting a little better each day but my headache still remains. It is getting better though.

Hello all...just have a couple quick questions if anyone can help
My wife just got a new PM doc..he has prescribed her fentanyl 25 mcg patches..now she really is in pain and is not looking to get high off these she wants releif, however she is used to roxys and way back when had a solid oxy habit.
i guess my question is are they safe? She is a bit nervous not knowing what fentanyl feels like..can anyone describe it?? is it closer tyo a high dose of oxy or closer to a high dose of morphine?? thanks everyone

I feel ya, Tri, man do I feel ya.....guys, I "tapered" my MS Contin from 60 mgs twice a day to 30 mgs twice a day on June 29....would you say it is normal for my legs to hurt so badly 13 days later? It is not a RLS feeling, it is more like I have a severe case of the flu. Or like someone beat me around the legs with a baseball bat....all the other symptoms have subsided, it is just the legs thing....any insight besides having a better tapering schedule next time I go down in dose?

Also, my doctors goal was to taper me off the morphine and jump me over to the Butrans patch....in further thought, I think I want to ask to be completely weaned from any ER med and have a smallish script for oxy....I have major back problems, but I also have severe migraine and I am scared that if I get an intractable headache, the Butrans would blockade anything I tried to take for pain relief from my headache....thoughts?

Have you tried tryptans for migrains? I've heard those are very effective...

Are you fucking kidding me? Of course I have tried tryptans. I finally found one that worked, but I had to discontinue all triptan therapy because with my migraines my face on the right side droops, I lose vision in my right eye and my lips go completely numb...they consider these "stroke like symptoms" and per my neurologist, triptan therapy in people with existing stroke like symptoms makes you at a much greater risk for actually having a stroke...I definitely have no desire to have this happen.

If you looked at me right now, as my husband just did and laughed, my right eye is all droopy and I am seeing in triple....the ketorolac (toradol) nasal spray is the only thing I have had in a very long time that brings total relief if I catch it in time...you have to use is sparingly, though, because it will destroy your kidneys....

Fentanyl feels like a heavily sedating, non-euphoric opioid. All in all, Fentanyl patches may be the safest opioid to use in that most patches come in a gel matrix and are not abusable and even those that are abusable, they aren't worth abusing-- like I said fentanyl has a limited euphoria. 25 mcg/hr patch is a relatively low dose comparatively to high dose oxy or morphine.

Just slap the patch on a hairless area, and within 8 hours the medicine will take full effect and last up 65 hours (they say 72 hours but I've never found this accurate even with varying brands of Fentanyl. It provides excellent around the clock pain relief, but usually requires a break through instant release medication like IR Morphine or IR Oxycodone for when the pain flares up past the control of a patch.

Even if you have the abusable brands, be warned that if someone opiate-naive ate some gel they are at high risk for overdose, its that potent.

I too suffer from migraines, albeit infrequent, and agree about the ketorlac providing good relief. I have had poor success with imitrex and sumatripan but have had some success with fiorinal and fiorcet. I'm sure you've already tried these.

Have you tried Ultram for your migraines?

Maybe the new ACA will help...
I have mine taken care of by the WC carrier of oregon.
They will pay for pain meds till I die, I guess.
The good thing about ACA is they cant refuse you for preexisting conditions.
I just had ANOTHER surgery and I am going nuts with this breakthru pain.
15MG of oxy just dont help anymore.
But I wont ask for more, I'm sick of taking them too.
I just Ice it for that.
I hope you can get relief someday.
I too, have thought of ODing, but keep going.
I cant figure out why, but I do...

Positive attitude can be contagious. So I will post something positive. I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything like that. I just want to give encouragement to people like us and maybe this will help you too.

If you read back through my posts I cut back on my medication because I was hurting so bad and the medication was not even touching it anymore. I was in agony mentally and physically. I still am but to a much lesser degree. At least today I can say these things. But as we all know each day is different and varies. Even Jesus said don't worry about tomm in Matthew 6:36 "So don't worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today's trouble is enough for today. We all know how stress can increase pain and anxiety. I'm not saying any bodies worries are trivial but it will help with pain if you can focus on something positive than negative. Believe me, my financial situation, well I have no money or resources for well anything. I had to sell my scrap gold and stuff for my prescription today. But that's ok things will get better. I will stay positive.

Now to get to my point. I cut back on my pain medications. I would take 1/2 of what I normally take. The first week was rough. It really bothered me and I hurt a lot. I took more Advil to cover the pain. After the week was up and into the second I noticed my pain lever was controlled a lot better. I still had some pain but it was not a 7 or 10.

Well I did run out for reasons I will not say yesterday and today I only had a little cough syrup I took that and I was fine. I filled my prescription at 3pm and took 1/2 norco and 1/2 soma and it worked perfectly. No pain and i was in a good mood and I cleaned my room and my kids bathroom.

I have a more positive out look right now. Idk maybe this is blog material. But this is my own personal experience since last month and it worked for me. My heart goes out to all of you who are burdened with intense pain. I don't like to see anybody suffering. I know what I go threw and it's horrible. There are people who have it so much worst than me.

Has anybody else had success at reducing their pain medication on their own? Did it work for you like it worked for me? If so what factors helped you out? What held you back?

Sorry if it's so long. God Bless all of you.

I came off fentanyl on my own and stayed off opoids for 3 months to try and get my tolerance down. My pain was pretty much unbearable so my dr and I decided I would be better off back on meds. I am not sure that the break made much difference though as I still needlarge doses to put any kind of dent in my pain. Im waiting to adjust my meds but the specialist isnt available until sept 3rd and I dont know what to do. I have even bought some 200mg er morphine capsules but taking them in their intended form doesnt seem to work so I am going to try the ir route taking a quarter at a time until I feel some relief.

I tried getting put on another muscle relaxant to help but I cant get it until I have seen this specialist. It totally sucks.

remember that simply chewing ms-contin won't make it IR...let it sit in water overnight for 12 hours and then drink a quarter of it...
