Random MSN Gibberings XCVIII - Pass me the Valium please / Shammy's big boner

I think those things vary from one place to another because I asked and the guy had not facility to provide electronic or hard copies, i suggested they could raise a few quid like they do for baby scans by charging for them, I wouldn't mind paying.

Its all a bit strange as I've never broken a bone before, apart from a few cracked ribs a fractured fingers but nothing that has required any real treatment.

Look at me fancy frame thing, I'd show you my scars ala Jaws scene but there still dresssed;)

They had only just started to make scans digital when I worked in that department. I'm surprised with the images that they can't just e-mail them to you. They should all have to have burning facilities because patients go between hospitals all the time, and they need to be able to transfer the scans.

I'm not so sure, I'm guessing (or hoping ) that they would have USB and disc drives locked down to stop the copying of private information, they obviously can get around this as you get copies of baby scans but I've only ever seen them as hard copies although from what Jancrow said this must be changing. I know they can;t refuse you copies of anything in your files but you do have to pay, I'm sure last time I checked it was £50 for a copy of my medical records.

Think this was about two years ago when I got to have a ride in an MRI- obviously I don't expect the NHS to be even vaguely joined-up so your local infirmary may operate differently.

I guarantee you no such security exists. You would be surprised how laxed they are with the security of your medical records! They didn't even make logs of what you'd looked at under your user name when I worked there...

Of late I've noticed they have to insert an ID/ smart card of some sort into a slot on the keyboard, of course this could be just a handy slot to keep their ID cards in but I suspect it at least restricts access to the system to some extent. The paper records are washing about all over the place though and there seems to be no concern over privacy and security around them.

@PTCH I'd start by asking at your doctors surgery, they should have your file there if you've been with them for a bit but I've no idea if the hospital information is supposed to end up with them or not.

My biggest concerns have always been inefficiency and the spread of disease. It makes zero sense to keep making paper documents. They should have just said that from today it's all digital, that's it. Then they should have put some sort of reading device at the foot of patients beds to look at the records. At the moment i'm pretty sure most bacteria that gets transported round the hospital goes via the notes, because i've noticed consultants rifling through them then inspecting patients straight after. Those card readers on the keyboards where there when I was there, and they didn't seem to do anything or they weren't set up to? I think they were just bought out of some misguided hopefulness that the NHS would one day get it's shit together. They've spent billions on a computer system to do it all properly and just scrapped it because it wasn't working...

Docs don't necessarily have a copy, depends if you checked the 'allow docs to see my history box' I think. otherwise the comms between hospital n docs is down to referal letters and such

@ PTCH: you can formally request to see all your records kept at a hospital though, although I've never done it.

forgot to reply to this:
just turned down a free holiday to ayia napa, even though the ticket is free and i'm off work...fuck that noise.

ayia napa ayia napa ayia napa BO BO BO!!

i've got limited time to change my mind, has anyone visited? can anyone else convince me otherwise that this place is not a magnet for twats?
isn't AN the international home to the UK garage sound? for some reason that's how I always remember it.

I too have two holidays I could go on for free ... not because I'm rich (I'm pretty much rock bottom poor as a rule), but just because someone else needs an escort ... but finding the motivation is hard tbh, esp as it means doing it in a way I probably wouldn't choose to myself

meh, I should just stop being such an unappreciative cunt and STFU and go and utilse the opportunity

eh?

that's paranoid nonsense. and I've a zillion hours experience observing exactly the same thing

the scanning stuff isn't universal or available everywhere.

but, by the by, what 'diseases' are you referring to specifically?

^^^

I'm holding back on commenting on the mention of the word "Escort" only because you'll bitch slap me down in the blink of an eye;)

Ha, coincidences abound, I appear to be lined up for a free trip to BEEFA. Never been, never wanted to, but it's gonna be free, so may as well.

Re transmission of bugs via paper notes, well, I wouldn't be at all surprised. I'd say it's a stretch to claim that 'most' bacteria bed hop this way but it's plausible that some are moving around like dat.

It's only a few nights, and I'm quite an old, sad fucker compared to the majority of visitors so I'll probably only have to spring for cigarettes and maybe the odd meal or taxi, so I reckon it'll be OK!

The international home of UK Garage sounds like my worst nightmare come true, i've decided that the 'no thanks' is final and that i'd only go if on a suicide bomber mission for the greater good of mankind. BO!

where is your freebie holiday destination? marmz,

you sound like you're on a winner jancrow. I've somehow not made it to ibiza yet.

If it's paranoid nonsense then why do they scrub down the wards on a daily basis but just leave the notes?! I'm talking about MRSA and stuff like that. Studies on it show that germs stay on notes for up to a week, but usually 3 days. (http://www.advisory.com/Daily-Briefing/2011/11/30/Hospital-germ-hotspot)

I don't think x-rays are all uploaded, but MRIs and stuff are aren't they?

MRIs have digital output, I saw mine on screen within seconds of it being done. I guess they scan X-rays as afaik they're done on photographic plates, although I've seen some of mine on screen too.

I thought they were phasing those out because of the inefficiency and the silver in the x-rays films?

The CT scan was obviously digital, but how would you tell if the X ray was ? I had to hold a plate up on the other side of my leg to the machine but I have no idea is that was an exposure plate or something else. The digital pictures have name and date and stuff on them like a digital photo but I guess this could be added in the scanning process.

I'm guessing, that since the guy had one of those big light boxes on the wall and all my notes it must have been one of the digital systems, it's a pretty big hospital.
