^ it is one crazy one. I set the timer and I guess the camera shook. I like to to think it took what was really there---which actually....it did!

There's just something so sad about elephants in zoos. I know that they're well taken care of and such, but they just never seem happy to be there. Maybe I'm just projecting, though.

Strangely I've always felt the same. I think it's because they're used to being roaming animals. I think zoos are pretty unethical for animals but I fucking love the zoo, plus The Denver Zoo does a good job of taking care of the animals.

Hmm, I think I'm gonna have to check out that book.

I have lots of childhood memories of the Denver Zoo. :)

Last time I went to the zoo here,we saw the giraffes doing a sort of mating dance banging their necks together. It was pretty neat!

This is how I feel about birds as pets. Are we so jealous of their ability to fly that we have to imprison them just to stare at them and never let them use their gift in the sky again?

Zoos are kind unethical, I agree. But a lot of the time isn't it injured animals that are being rehabilitated and protected at the zoo? And after all don't we live in houses because we got tired of running and hiding and defending ourselves from wild animals that are stalking us and wanting to tear us to shreds and consume us? Living in a zoo pen can't be THAT bad for the elephants. Their only enemy now is time and I guess tight living space. But they don't have to find their own food anymore or ever worry about going hungry or thirsty. I think it's the ticket out of the ghetto for a lot of these animals.

sshh

I seriously just LOLd.

My moms favorite animal is an elephant so I can understand that maybe that is the reason I was never taken to a zoo or circus. My mom adamantly explained to me how extraordinarily disgusting and cruel circuses are when I was younger. I can't help but judge people who get excited about the circus coming to town. They always seem to be undesirable people I would never want to hangout with outside of work or school.

I don't mind zoos that much these days because I know a lot of zoos get their animals (rescue them) from people who illegal import, keep and breed wild animals and they also take in sick and injured ones that couldn't live on their own. I know not all of them do that but at least from the cases I've heard that some do it makes going to zoos and the idea of zoos "okay" to me.

I hate circuses. The animals are treated so freaking cruelly. I wish they had circuses with just the clowns, trapeze artists, and jugglers and stuff. I'd be down for going to that.

The last circus we went to had no animals at all.
I like it that way, so does my partner. The only slaves were the kids :P
