I am taking Dexedrine, about 15-17.5mg daily, for my severely inattentive ADD. I take a 7.5mg dose, then a 5 mg booster, then 2.5mg boosters to reach the total dosage listed, each taken 2-3 hours apart.

Once the Dex kicks in, the brain fog goes away, and I can focus on my work, and not ramble or cut people off in conversations, have normal motor coordination, no hyperfocusing, etc., which are the good parts. The bad is that life is so boring on ADD medication. With an ADD mind, the world fascinates me and I would be totally satisfied doing absolutely nothing. I would be able to hyperfocus on a particular thing and just have a blast doing that without the medication, but only if it were of extreme interest to me.

Hyperactivity being reduced, and maybe because "normal" life is pretty damn boring, I find myself almost falling asleep sometimes on Dextroamphetamine, even after a solid 8 hours of sleep and a good breakfast. So, I've found myself taking caffeine and ephedrine to counteract this, but caffeine is such a crap stimulant. My sleep schedules are messed up from constant dosing of low dosages of caffeine. I still manage to get 7-8 hours of sleep, but frequently have to miss class or other appointments to do so. I find myself typing this at 5am, for instance.

Is there a better way to not get so bored and sleepy? Or is life just plain boring, and having a brain wired differently just adds a certain spice to it that has its own benefits? I kind of wish societal expectations weren't so high today, and I lived 40 years ago, in a more laid back time where not everyone had to conform to a certain level and type brain functioning in order to hammer out massive amounts of academic and professional work, but this is the world we live in, I guess.

Good advice. See, if I were to take dexamphetamine, I'd become more hyperactive (though not in a spastic way, but I would certainly be getting way more shit done and possibly cleaning my room), so maybe your brain is "wired differently".

Although I think the whole "wired differently" thing is mostly bullshit. All our brains are wired differently due to life experiences and the way we think. What you probably have a chemical imbalance that Dexamphetamine maskes in some ways, but in the long run will only make worse.

So try to use it sparingly. You can take some days off and enjoy life, I'm sure? And then maybe you can get away with only 10mg a day?

Yeah IMO, if you can cut back on your usage, like only use a few days a week, you'd be much better off. Plus you don't become dependent on it. I don't mean like, physically dependent as in withdrawals, etc. But imagine if you had your meds taken away from you for some reason, and you were forced to go without? It's not a smooth transition, emotionally.

I use Desoxyn a couple times per month. I'm not saying you should too, I just wanted to say that as an infrequent user, I feel like I benefit much more from using sporadically than daily dosing. I did daily dosing in school, and when I stopped, my grades actually got better. I learned better focus, time management, and organization skills sober, the same type of shit that ADD meds try to mimic.

IMO, amphetamines are like benzodiazepines, they are excellent tools, terrible toys, not something you should be doing regularly or in high doses.

As for the sleepiness, desoxyn makes me tired as well, and this may sound silly but I have achieved great results with taking vitamins with your dose, I usually take multivitamins, and all the other ones I take seperately, like Omega-3s, Vitamin D, Coconut Oil, Milk Thistle, to name a few.

The best results can be attained with with proper diet and exercise.

^^are you saying proper diet and exercise will work best for adhd and anxiety related issues in comparison to medications??

i workout every day and eat right and its never helped me that much..when im on stims i become hyperactive and everything seems much more interesting for the first few hours..then everything becomes beyond boring when i crash..

besides, life is quite repetitive and maybe we expect too much out of it?i mean, every day cant be a party and for us drug takers, we expect it to be..im working on this area myself..

i totally feel you... i got literally DEPRESSED while on a daily schedule of focalin. i stopped taking it daily, dropped my tolerance, life got fucking beautiful again, and now i only take it like 3 times a week and it works so much better!
Just try spacing it out and not taking it every day. if you take it everyday, it makes ur brain depend on it for the signals of releasing dopamine/seritonin/norepinephrine, etc...
if you MUST take it everyday, then sorry! i cant help!

focalin and ritalin in particular make me real depressed afterwards. with dexedrine/adderall, it sort of feels like im still speeding, but tired. for some reason it reminds me of the onset of lsd (prolly just me though).
