I do not smoke cigarettes, nor have I ever been a cigarette smoker. Nonetheless, I bought an electric "cigarette", which delivers a very questionable amount of nicotine in the form of a vapor (the drug is suspended in glycerin, or some PEG/PG), but does not contain the other various psychoactive compounds found in tobacco.

Those who are actual smokers appear to not like it. I have found it to be rather intoxicating when taken smoked in large, deep inhalations (very much unlike how one would smoke an actual cigarette). When "smoked" this way, I have found the effect to be somewhat sedating, dissociative and even a bit narcotic. Because of the low temperature, it is easy to "smoke" and can deliver rather large amounts of nicotine (larger than one could comfortably smoke in an actual cigarette).

I am fully aware of the various psychoactive compounds found in tobacco and their mechanisms, however little information exists concerning the recreational use of nicotine vapor solutions in individuals who do not or have been a cigarette smoker.

Personally, I feel very little psychoactive effect from actual cigarettes, and was accordingly never interested. However, with this nicotine vapor, I can feel a much stronger immediate psychoactive effect, particularly when taken in slow, deep inhalations.

Anyone have any experiences with the use of nicotine in this fashion, particularly as a non-smoker?

Excuse the brevity of this thread; I must post this quickly but I will try to elaborate when possible.

There are definitely many people who prefer larger, more intoxicating doses of nicotine in comparison to a 2mg cigarette. If you have ever smoked shisha/hookah or cigars, or "dipped" tobacco, you would know that the experience is qualitatively a lot different from cigarettes. Of course there are the harmala alkaloids, added flavours and ageing products to be accounted for in "natural" tobacco that are not present in E-cigarette smoke.

The hookah experience in particular can be very intoxicating... the combination of water filtration and flavoured smoke lends itself to huge deep inhalations that produce effects similar to those that you've stated.

I have wondered, is E-cigarette "smoke" synthetic, or does it contain tobacco juice?

I have had the same experience; I have smoked perhaps 15 cigarettes in my lifetime and have only ever felt intoxicated when smoking a handrolled filterless cigaretter made from very high-quality tobacco. The e-cigarette, on the other hand, is much easier to obtain a recreational effect from in my experience.

Perhaps it has to do with the fact that since there are many fewer irritating compounds in the e-cigarette smoke, you are more able to inhale deeply and hold it in?

And yes, stomachaches are a possible effect, as well as headaches. In my limited experience, one who is not used to nicotine should be aware of nicotine's ability to stimulate gastrointestinal motility (i.e. know where the nearest bathroom is...).

Some electronic cigs claim to have a "real tobacco" flavor, but whether this is merely flavoring + nicotine or involves an extract of tobacco I am unsure. I have personally only ever tried those that are ostensibly just nicotine in propylene glycol.

i have a nice 5 voltage one produces as much vapor as a real cig does with smoke gonna make some jwh e liquid

Essentially I am curious if others (particularly those who have never been regular cigarette smokers) have been able to feel a rather profound and distinct psychoactive effect from this nicotine vapor. "Snuff" or chewing tobaccos, are certainly more 'powerful' in terms of psychoactive effect, so much so that in high doses, one simply feels poison

In regards to the comparative side-effect profile/toxicity of smoked tobacco and nicotine vapor, I have found the vapor to be far less irritating (very little to no GI upset, mild headache at most, and diminished appetite).

But, to the point, I am intrigued by the pharmacological properties of rather high dose nicotine when administered as a vapor, particularly in the absence of the various psychoactive found in tobacco.

To put it simply: Electronic cigarettes are actually getting me "high" when inhaled in deep, slow inhalations. Interestingly, the nature of the 'high' is is not some mere light-headed, dizzying 'buzz' as one would expect. There is a distinct analgesic and anxiolytic component, which feels rather unique. I would very roughly liken the effect to nitrous oxide (albeit, not as pronounced). It has a 'non-psychedelic' dissociative effect with indirect/secondary opioidergic quality and minor anxiolytic properties.

I definitely find that shisha/hookah, which likewise involves much less irritating smoke than cigarettes allowing you to smoke way more, has a distinctly different feel to cigarettes. I find it definitely anxiolytic, analgesic I'm not sure, definitely has a stronger body buzz that you can't really from cigarettes. I never really thought of it as a high personally but I suppose it fits the bill, though I wouldn't describe it the way you do e-cigarettes (maybe because they're still very different methods of delivery).

I found e cigs to be intoxicating in a similar manner to conventional cigarettes (a similar buzz manifests), but I've never been a regular smoker of the latter.

ebola

yea, i hate e-cigs, i bought one not knowing u had to have a charger, etc. it lost its charge in one day, and id have to pay 40-50 bucks for the starter kit , which is a
a waste of money if you only smoke occassionally. nicotine can be a somewhat pleasant drug. filtered cigars and cigarettes dont have that much tobacco in them
compared to say a real cigar, and they have little effect on me. when i want a nicotine rush, i buy a regular cigar, and smoke the whole thing, i breathe in the smoke ,
unlike most cigar smokers who do it only for the taste. it gives u much more nicotine than a cigarette and you really feel it , though the smoke is really harsh and it has
so much nicotine that you start feeling nauseous and sick if you smoke too much of the cigar.

Yes, I didn't expect there to be many perspectives on this, but was curious nonetheless. I am merely intrigued by the properties of this nicotine vapor, and its qualties as a psychoactive compound in the absence of the heat degradation, filtration, adults and various other psychoactive compounds found in tobaccos other.

But, again, I am going to be a bit on my own in this endeavor, in that exceedingly few individuals buy and use an electric cigarette when one has never been a cigarette smoker. There is rather discreet place where physicians gather and smoke at a certain hospital that is notorious for being highly cigarette intolerant (no smoking allowed outside or anywhere in relatively proximity), located on a non-designated terrace just under the top helipad, and many other physician are confused when I join them with my electronic cigarette. I am always asked a similar question; 'How does that work?", which in other words means, "how is that working as a cessation aid", to which I reply "no clue; I don't smoke". One older physician likened it to having" sex with your clothes on".......

Hehe, sex with a condom maybe, clothes can be hot :)

I've never tried e-cigs, when I was much younger I smoked tobacco in a bong a few times and the effects don't sound anything like you described. Pretty much just sweating, light-headedness, dizziness.

My co-worker is trying to quit smoking and has a nicotine vaporizer. She puffs on the thing all the time and whenever I (non-smoker) go into her cubicle I get a terrible headache and occasionally nausea from all of the vapor in the air.

I did take a drag or two out of it one time when I was really pissed off, it was just like smoking a cigarette but much cleaner obviously. No desire to ingest a large amount as I don't feel like puking at work.

I am an off and on smoker and I actually don't mind the e cig. It definitely helps with cravings and I'd rather have it above any other smoking cessation tool. It isn't a cigarette but for me, it is not so far off as for me to complain. I like that its not harsh and I retain my senses of smell and taste. Even though it has been forever since I smoked menthol, I like the menthol flavor with the e cig as it makes it even smoother. Its minty, unlike a menthol cig which is more like mint combined with burning garbage.

Hi.., Several times I tried to quit smoking but I didn't. When I heard about E-cigarettes last year I am very clear that I am going to quit smoking soon. E-cigarettes consists of Nicotine which is highly addictive drug. E-cigarettes doesn't contain other various ingredients and tobacco which are added for taste ,smell and some other purposes. So many non smokers are also started using E-cigarettes for relief. Personally, I feel very little psychoactive effect from actual cigarettes. However, with this nicotine vapor, I can feel a much stronger psychoactive effect, particularly when taken in slow, deep inhalations.

If you are still interested in the original subject my experience of nicotine only inhalers is that I did initially like the effects. I was and still am a non smoker. After that I took up using oral tobacco- snus not dip. I've since tried nicotine inhalers and found them unappealing. Also tried using tobacco in a vaporiser to reduce my snus use. The effects were pleasant but not enough to make me prefer it to snus.

I've got an E-fag, that I bought out of curiosity. This one isn't rechargeable, or refillable, but it was pretty cheap, at about a fiver. The package claimed it was equal to around 40- 50 fags, but it seemed fairly weak and a bit irritating on the throat and chest. Does look neat though, having a glowing LED light where a regular smoke would be lit.

Has anybody tried nicotine mouth sprays? I get those nicorette mouth sprays on rx, for free, fortunately, as they are usually bloody expensive. These are the strongest nicotine product I have ever tried, subjectively speaking, although others contain more nicotine by weight. I am a smoker, but I still find these sprays recreational, I imagine, due to the speed with which they are absorbed. It contains 1mg of nicotine per spray.

Other nicotine containing products I have used are the following:

Rollups, unfiltered, just using a roach. I normally smoke these, amber leaf being my tobacco of choice, although I will smoke golden virginia if no amber leaf is to be had. I've had some good effects by spraying the nicorette over a rollup fag and letting it dry out a bit, the solvents are volatile enogh to allow this. Its a mixture of propylene glycol and anhydrous EtOH (and yes, it stings when sprayed into the mouth)

Regular filter cigarettes, and menthols. When smoking these, I tear the glue strip from a rolling paper, lick it, then wrap it around the filter end over those tiny holes which reduce the amount of smoke on e inhales, then pull the filter cotton itself out and throw it oit before lighting up.e
A pipe. I occasionally smoke a pipe, got a couple of nice glass pipes. Hits pretty hard. Nowhere near as strong as the oromucosal spray however.

Cigars. I like a nice fat, juicy cuban cigar. I prefer the darker and stronger tobaccos, I like the way they cause a tingling sensation in my lips and tongue when my cigar has been smoked down to a short stub and saturated with previously vaporized. Short of the spray, big, fat buggers of a cigar are the strongest nicotine product I've ever tried.

Nicorette inhalators..basically a plastic fag with a replaceable cartridge inside with a little wad of some porous material soaked in nicotine base. Not particularly strong, nor all that subjectively heavy hitting. Pretty much 'meh' IMO.

Patches. Crappy. They fall off and won't go back on, obviously very slow to release. Irritating to my skin, and in general, annoying.I've never bought or been rx'd them, but I have been given them. No plans to buy any, ever, nor to ask for a script. They were crap IMO.

Gum. Again, not fantastic. OK, but not fantastic.

Lol, I got quite the nasty shock when I first got my regular scripts with the nicorette mouth spray added to them. The nurse and I were discussing NASAL sprays ( which I have never tried), that was the original plan when I first discussed the options for nicotine delivery systems with my doc (there is the most idiotic prescribing procedure...the nurse is meant to handle the quitting smoker's needs, after first having an appointment with the GP...who sends the patient to a nurse. Yet the nurse cannot write the prescriptions, so has to send the script back to the GP who then prescribes it. And now, I do not ever see the nurse. Only saw her the once to begin with, and now its my GP who writes up the rx for me along with my other meds every two weeks)

But the nurse, accidentally wrote the script for a mouth spray, not a nasal one. I was expecting what I got to be a nasal spray, and when I got out of the pharmacy, aimed up my nose and sprayed a couple up there. And immediately wished I hadn't. Anhydrous EtOH/propylene glycol and nicotine mix burns like fucking fury when put up one's nose. It was like getting chilli peppers up there.

The effects are quite pleasant. Somewhat of a body buzz, calming, relaxing, some analgesic effects. I've sprayed it onto my bad hip before, and the area of my bad knee that has the neuropathy and nerve damage to some success, transdermally. Very relaxing, when 4-5-6mg or so of nicotine is taken transmucosally. Especially if I have a rollup just after, its mint flavoured, the spray, sort of, although it tastes strongly of nicotine also. So its srt of like smoking what menthols SHOULD be (rather than piss-weak fuckers that are impossible to get a drag from without wrapping the cut off gum strip from a rizla around those blasted holes punched in and ripping out the filter cotton with my teeth, or a haemostat if I am at home where they are available.

The best effect however, is it causing REALLY vivid dreams, that are so realistic that I can't tell if I am awake or asleep. I think I am going to have to try it with a good strong dose of valerian extract, which also has such an oneirogenic effect, to see if they synergise or potentiate said dreaming effect.

For completeness of this bioassay report, my other meds are as follows:

Pregabalin, nominally 100mg TDS, although I sometimes take more, sometimes less, for neuropathic pain, although I use it more to control myoclonus.

Tizanidine (an alpha2 adrenoreceptor agonist like clonidine, although with a shorter duration of action) For preventing overloads, as I'm classically autie. And I like it that way, although I could do without overloading. And plugged, for a very effective sleep inducer, as I have a naturally monstrously high resistance to benzos and most other GABAergics. It does however, when plugged, seem to inhibit dreaming, when I take it at night, plugged, I never, ever remember my dreams. Dose is nominally 8mg/d although I vary it as and when I need.

Two benzos, which I use occasionally, loprazolam 1mg tablets and 5mg moggies.
Chormethiazole, a barbiturate-like downer, IIRC fairly similar, electrophysiologically, to pentobarbital, one of the few GABAa PAMs that do much to me. 192mg caps, 1 per day, although I am scripted them for once daily, I don't take them every day, I don't want a physical dependence on GABA drugs. Instead, I take a few of them occasionally, as needed.
Gaviscon to protect my stomach from indomethacin, a strong NSAID (at 300mg/d), the gaviscon as needed.
And lastly, a xylometazoline nasal spray, to counteract the effects of the tizanidine, locally restricted to the nasal lining/sinuses, as tizanidine makes my nose really stuffy and blocked at higher doses, dose as needed.

I think what you guys are experiencing is the nicotine buzz. You get it for the first while smoming cigs but after a couple months or so it slowly goes away. Of course everyone says they want to quit when the buzz goes away but how many actually quit is certainly lower

I've been on ecigs for 2 years now, after smoking cigarettes since I was a younging. They do work well for some of us looking to move off overtaxed, vilified tobacco.

I recommend packing a fat lip of dip / chew tobacco.. and then heading to the nearest toilet.. if you really want to get f'd up from nicotine =D
