OD, you look as calm and full of peace and "belonging" as all the deer and moose you captured on film (I started to say all the herbavores;)). Seriously, you look wonderful. <3

My family camped in Rocky Mountain National Park when I was a kid. All I remember was the humiliation of falling into multiple streams and having my mom say, "I didn't bring enough changes of clothes for this!" But I am still an ace rock-hopper at 58 so I must've gotten better from that early training!=D

And, it is already spring here. Look at all my daffodils! (The prayer flags are Caleb's.)

OD-- looking great my man! Nice elk shots too!

herb-- jaysis! We don't get that green here until may, and that's in early years!

I love going to the spa for my birthday... 53 tomorrow!

In southern California we don't really have snow days, so I don't have a snow picture.

However, yesterday, March 3, I spend the day at the spa with my daughter. We have not been anywhere, just the two of us, in a long time. She just finished college and she works, and has a boyfriend... but she decided to spend the day with me at the spa. She said that was her birthday present to me, and I LOVED it. It was a perfect day.

She would not let me take pictures of her, but I would love to post a picture of her for the whole world to see... I'm insanely proud of her. She has become such a beautiful adult. Some of our discussions surprised me because I did not realize how truly lucky I am to have such a high quality person that I (with the help of her dad) brought into this world in 1986.

It felt a little bit like meeting her again for the first time... because she is my youngest and because she is always very busy, I haven't ever really thought of her as a woman. She has always seemed like a kid to me.

#wrong! She is a full grown adult, out on her own and making much better choices than I do. AND she took the time to spend the WHOLE day swimming with me. How in the WORLD did I get so lucky?

I marked this NSFW just because I'm in a pool, but my bathingsuit is modest. I do not think anyone would be offended in the slightest but it's always better safe than sorry.

Waitaminute-- there's actually a person underneath that Vaderesque gear that you're usually wearing in your shots?! Outstanding! Glad to put a proper face to the name :)

There's a metaphor in there somewhere, I'm sure....

You look beautiful, happy and relaxed! And the words you wrote about your daughter are beautiful, too. Experiencing your children as wonderful adults has to be one of life's greatest pleasures.<3 Happy, happy, happy birthday! (belated)

P.S. Rangrz--yes! Yay! A face...and a very good looking one at that!:)

SOOO--Do you always have that much energy? Your whole face just radiates engagement with life.<3

Hey Herb? I want you to know that you are one of the main, sometimes the only, reason I still read these boards.

You have more heart and soul that 50 other BLers I could name.

I was so happy at the spa. I always am, but yesterday was the dogs bollocks as my British friends like to say. My actual birthday is tomorrow, March 5. I will be spending it at the OB GYN with my other daughter, who is expecting her first baby. I am so excited. I already have grandbabies, and I love them to the end of the earth.

But my son's wife gave birth to them. I wasn't really in the picture.

This is my daughter. She and her husband have been married almost 10 years, and they live with us. SO my husband and I are going to have a new baby in the house around September I believe.

The kids might decide to move out, but money is very tight for all of us, and together we all live a little better than we would if we were all alone. I hope they stay but I will go along with whatever they tell me.

Herbavore, I am happy to say that being a teacher taught me that you can't tell kids stuff. They can't hear it. Their ears are not developed enough. I compare it to putting a book in a baby's crib. The baby doesn't know how a book works yet. When the baby matures enough to understand the concept of book, then they begin to learn to read.

My four grown children cannot hear me when I tell them things that are going to cause them problems later on. I should just speak Latin if I am going to say anything to any one of them about anything they do.

HOWEVER, I can hear. When my children talk to me, my ears are open, I know how listening works. I don't give them advice at all about anything, which sometimes is horrible for me. My husband has not figured out this listening business, Herbavore. Do you know that last night we were all together talking into the night.

Every time the kids would bring something up, he would butt in and tell a story that he had been reminded of when the kids where speaking.

I finally told him last night, for the first time EVER, "We are not talking about you, dear. The kids are telling us about themselves. I feel very strongly that we should be quiet and let them talk, and listen to what they say. Don't hear it. Listen to it. Engage in what these kids are saying. Stop making everything into one of your stories, please, no offense."

Imagine having to explain listening to a 64 year old man????????????8(

I posted a picture of us in the "love" thread but I can't remember what forum it's in. In case you are wondering what we have endured the last 33 years together.

Thank you again for being such a civil, kind, gentle, well mannered, truly delightful Bluelighter.

If you weren't here, I don't think I would be either. And I know you and I almost never converse. I just had to take the time to tell you how much you mean to me.
