My tub of whey protein powder says mix with milk, juice or water. I usually mix it up in my blender with milk but I'm not sure if this is the best way to take it for the human digestive system to digest all the protein. As far as I know when a human drinks cow's milk a lot of the protein is missed because we can only digest a small amount of the nutrients in cow's milk. Taste wise I quite like the taste of it mixed with milk but I was wondering if it's better to mix it up with water instead? Any info would be great. Cheers...:)

Its actually the other way around. Many of the enzymes and fats in whole milk help the nutrients in milk to get absorbed.

Really depends on what kind of calorie intake you're looking at. On a bulk I'll typically drink whole milk. On a cut- skim

i've been wondering the same thing. i generally use water as it's easier on my stomach than milk, and was wondering about benefits/drawbacks

There is no maximum amount of protein that can be absorbed at one time. Protein is broken down into amino acids (AAs), which get stored for a finite time. When your body needs an AA, it will pull it from storage. If your body doesn't need an AA, I don't know if it gets excreated unused or if it gets turned into something else--Either way, all the protein from your meal had been "absorbed", so to speak. There isn't protein traveling through your digestive tract whole, even if you eat 60 grams of it at once.

As far as which milk is better, whole or skim (or the multiple numbers between), whole milk does indeed still have the fat and therefore the fat-soluble vitamins will be absorbed easier than the skim milk that has vitamins added back.

Also, there are numerous threads in this forum (and probably in other forums) on whey protein.

Its all personal preference and whats easier on the stomach and calorie intake, im more pro food than whey protien iv had several debates on people saying micros are micros and the body doesnt recoginez the difference between a chicken breast and a protien shake which is some what true but your body also as everything needed to survive without that processed items plus it takes more calories to digest whole food than whey protien as your body is going to use more energy to break the chicken down into amino acids than it would whey. Also your body can only use XX amount of protien the rest is waste, remember the amino acids are used for DNA replication for energy which is sugars which is what your muscle is made out of glycogen so when your body needs energy it attacks your muscle first as it is easiest to break down into sugars than fat.

Just remember to keep eating every couple hours so your so body has a constant supply of nutrients to stay anabolic, otherwise your going to waste your money on that whey protien.

Whey is okay afterwork outs to replinesh loss of glycogen quickly or you can do amino acids and go home cook up some good ol food.

Whey protein contains all essential amino acids.

I'm an advocate for milk, because A) it tastes better and B)it contains sugar which will help your body absorb protein.

This is what I drink. You should try em sometime. They're great for protein and are specifically designed for optimal digestion and utilization. They're a little more expensive than straight protein powder but man are they delicious.

My gym sells myoplex- I see a lot of people taking it out. Good pre-mix. Not too sure if it's cost effective when compared with buying milk and protein mix.

Cant you just mix it with water And Milk,
thats what i do,

Milk is too heavy,
Water tastes like crap with it alone,

So i do a happy mix :)

Get a blender, fill a little bit of ice.

Put a banana in the blender

Put milk in the blender

Put however many scoops of protein you need=

Delicious consistency.

^imo best answer right hurr.
i've noticed that Whey Protein (imo) tastes best when mixed with Almond milk, but like Renz said, its pretty much about how many calories you're looking to ingest
