I have no choice but to start to withdrawal off heroin and oxycodone pills (percoset 10/325). I only have a $20 sack of heroin left and 30 percoset pills. My refill on the pills is not up for another 17 days and there is no possible way one bag of H and 30 pills are going to last me 17 days. I usually go through 2 bags of heroin a day or 15-20 pills a day. Either or will get me through the day without any symptoms but since I need to try to ration what I have for the next 17 days, anyone who can give me advice on what the best way to do this would be greatly appreciated. How long is your body in agony once you stop all opiates? I do not have access to suboxone or methadone, so I need to do this the old fashion way. What OTC meds will help? Anything that can help me get through the next 17 days without anyone in my family noticing that I am going through withdrawals!!! I have kids and I don't want them to see me going through agony. Any help, suggestions advice PLEASE!!!

Have you never been sick before from this?

Well i think the first thing is to just accept the fact that you will have to deal with some sickness. But good news is that it doesnt last for a long time. You will probably only have a few days of feeling really shitty. The rest is fatigue and however large your cravings get. 20 pills a day is a pretty good habit. I was doin 30 norcos a day and I too was really afraid of being sick. Can you not get anything off the streets or is it a money thing?

Otc meds would be some pills that help the restless leg shit or you can buy tonic water for the quinine in it. Some kind of pain reliever wont hurt. Vitamins if you dont have any.

Other things like hot baths, try to minimize your stress as much as possible. Can you take time off work? Eat even if you have to force it. Dont beat yourself up over this. YOur not a bad person.

Im sure im forgetting a few things but ill add to them when i remember. Good luck. Just remind yourself it will all be over soon. It doesnt last forever.

How long have you been using? And to repeat, is this your first time being sick? Your brain chemistry changes as you use and as you quit and start again, so this is fairly important as to how long you will be ill and how bad it will be.

Get some diphenhydramine (Benadryl) and Nyquil to help you sleep, and some muscle relaxers if you can score them. Try to cut back to 2-3 pills per day and see how that makes you feel. Try not to take any more than you absolutely need to avert most of the withdrawal symptoms.

If it's your first time, it shouldn't last more than 3-5 days for the acute stage. Exercise, drinking lots of water, sweating in a bath, these will all help your body remove the toxins more quickly. Smoking pot, if you do, can help with some of the acute symptoms. Not gonna lie, it will probably suck. But the more you can wean down before you go cold turkey the easier it will be.

Oh, also, if you can't eat and are vomiting, get some ensure/slimfast/boost supplement drinks to help get your body the energy it needs to help you get through this. Good luck!

Yea, I cut it short some months too and I have only this month taught myself to stick to a regiment to make it to the end. Believe me, you really have to fight the urges like no one's business and know it's not going to be fun, it may even hurt. My trick is to figure how many days, then hours I need to make it. Mind you, 17 days too soon says to me you really fucked up! I'm usually dealing with 3-6 days at the most. Then I figure out how much and how often I can take it. This month I'm down to once every 8 hours and then probably only a 1/12 of on 40mg tablet. I've found the trick is to not only reduce the amount you take but try to push the next dose out a bit more each time. Yes, it takes major willpower but the other side of the coin is that you can run out and face miserable pain for 24/7 awhile. Good Luck and you got some good advice above.

Do you have anyone you can trust to take them and help you with a dosing regimen?

I am on the percosets and under supervision of a pain specialist. I have been using the percs for 2 years. The heroin is something I just started in the last 4 or 5 months because everyone kept telling me how much cheaper it is to use H and it gave better pain relief and of course in the beginning it was cheaper but as like with any opiate, the more you use it, the more you need to achieve that "high" So I am disgusted at the amount of money I have spent on Heroin when I am prescribed percoset that cost me $20 a month and not $20 a bag like it is with heroin. I just moved to the Chicago area and have not met anyone who can hook me up with a dealer for H so I am kind of screwed. My percoset is not due for refill until the 12th. Obviously if the pain doc finds out I am using more than prescribed percs or supplementing with Heroin, he will kick me out of the program and I definitely don't want to lose his help with me chronic pain issues. I have run out of pills before and started showing physical symptoms within 24 hours of my last dose. Luckily, then I had access to heroin so I could just purchase enough H to get me through to my next refill. That option is not there this time. And I am disgusted at myself for letting myself get addicted to heroin as it is so I'm hoping I have enough will power to do this. I have seen a lot of ppl recommending immodium AD but I have IBS and taking that will prob mess with my system more than a normal persons. Luckily I do have some xanax and valium to use. I just don't want to be stuck in bed sick especially being as I have kids and my youngest has cerebral palsy so he needs me daily. My kids will be at their dads house for 5 straight days over Thanksgiving break so I thought this would be a good time to start withdrawal. Any info on how long I can expect the physical symptoms to last would be really helpful. The biggest problems I ran into the previous times was feeling like I had a bad flu, diarrhea, not being able to eat....but I never had to go more than 3 days before. I appreciate any of you taking the time to help me get through this stressful time.

Oh and the last time I went 24hrs + without opiates, one of the worse things was the restless leg thing. I actually had no idea it is one of the symptoms of withdrawal so I went to the ER telling then I had horrible pain in my legs and couldn't sit still, couldn't sleep even after taking xanax and trazadone. They said it was caused from me having low potassium but now I know why I really had them. I dread feeling those again!

The restless legs/akasthisia is awful, but try taking Benadryl for that. You can probably expect the withdrawal to last 3-5 days until you're at nearly full functionability again. I have this daily and my doc just prescribed benzadrine for it but you can't exactly tell your doc that you're withdrawing and would like to try this. However, Benadryl is in the same family and may help with that a bit. Warm baths and exercise also help, as does stretching (anything to get your limbs moving).

Can anybody please give me a list of things I should pick up OTC from the store now so I am fully prepared when symptoms start and don't have to run out to grab anything? Suggestions on when to take xanax or valium? When should you start the immodium?

How can you guys talk about stretching and eating? When I started the withdrawals for only 2 days, I couldn't even get out of bed and had terrible abdominal pain!

Shit i cant believe i forgot! WEED! if you can get it. Its a better pain reliever then anything otc.

I would start the immodium as soon as your symptoms begin (sniffling, runny nose and eyes, soreness) as the diarrhea will follow not far behind. Other than that, get some Benadryl and Nyquil to help with sleep and restless legs, get some sleepytime/chamomile tea to help relax you, some water and popsicles to help with hydration. Also like I said get some Ensure or SlimFast to help you keep nutrients in your body, especially if you're vomiting. It will come up easier than solid food.
Movies. Rent some movies if you don't have Netflix or something.

Are you reading the posts? Your questions are answered in them like how long it should last and what to get at the store. Ya i dont know how people can exercise when kicking so I dont even mention it cause your most likely not going to have it in you to do that. Stretch out the xanex and valium as much as you can.

You havent had to go thru being sick before so I can imagine how nervous you might be. But with all the other shit that life can throw at you, being dope sick is not the worst thing you can go thru. But you search online enough and you think people were on their death bed. Its a few days and then you will feel better. Its not fun but its not as terrible as some say. I quit cold turkey from a 30 a day habit and I lived. ALthough i was sick about 2 weeks instead of a few days but thats just cause i could never taper off. I always would just take the same amount till I was out. I hate stretching out any drug. I just end up thinking about it all day and who wants just a little head buzz.

Dont go see your doc while your sick either. Pain specialist probably knows when someone is sick or not. Then he will test you and see you dont have the right levels of meds in your system and then your fucked. My mother almost got the boot cause the doc tested her and felt she didnt have enough of it in her system. THought she might be selling them but that wasnt the case.

Drinking alcohol will make it worse too.

If you can get a script for chlonodine from a clinic do it. It's a godsend, when I was first trying to get off down (me and my gf were averaging about a gram each a day, of really potent dope) it actually made the withdrawals easy to get through. It makes you so tired that you'll literally sleep through the whole withdrawal period. Other things that can help are alcohol, weed, benydrill, nyquil and just resting in a hot bath with epsom salt in it (helps with the leg pain (which is the only reason I won't cold turkey from using right now, its horrid ya?)

As for using what you have on you….. try using as little as possible when you first show signs of w/d's (maybe one perc every hour until you feel well enough to mange, not until you get high!). I'd save the down and benzo's for as long as possible for when the w/d's are peaking (day 3 probably).

But really try for the clonodine as best you can, I've been on methadone and now suboxone for over 3 years and I've had absolutely no success with them (I'm now on other meds that interact with clonidine in a negative way so 'i can't take it now ). Whatever you do don't go on a maintenance program, they're way to outdated and you just replace one addiction for another even worse one. I had more success with a two week script of clonidine then with anything else as did my gf, my best friend and another girl friend of mine.

Another thing I hate it when people say "oh heroin withdrawal is just like a bad flu." Maybe I've never had a "bad" flu or other people are really affected by the flu, but there is no way in hell w/ding from heroin is comparable to a fucking flu.

if i were you i would break that last bag down and make it last as long as possible. (not sure if you shoot up but you should snort it. will last a bit longer) and i wouldn't pop any pills till bed time. you might feel like shit but at least you shouldn't feel like total death and might get some sleep. That should hold off the restless legs.. which i feel is by far the worst part of withdraw.

remember it isn't gonna be easy but if you really want to do it you can do it! I personally quit cold turkey from a bad heroin addiction and currently take nothing to replace the drug.

Feel free to pm me if you would like someone to help you thru this i would be happy to talk about what worked for me

Trazadone is not good in that case. As it will actually make your restlessness become worse and for a longer period..

Really? I thought it would help in something like this. Do you have the source for that? Not saying your not right. I say that in a nice way. I would just like to check out more info on that. Why does it make worse?

Treat your days now as if you're already out , no more getting a buzz .... Spread out what you have to help get thru , as in 2 Percs a time max ( or whatever it takes to keep it flu like and not worse ) to get some sleep. Stay home , tell ppl. You have the flu ( work , family ...) and by Monday shit should be bearable. Most OTC has been mentioned already but I've found vit. C helps also - check into phenibut ( order online now and you'll have it by the time you need it ) and mostly remember , it will not be as bad as you are getting all mentally worked up thinking it will be ..... The mental worry seems to be at least 1/2 of the agony for most ppl. - it won't be fun no matter what , but if you spread out what you have it really should be no worse than a 3-5 day flu bug
And if at all possible , lock up 2-3 Percs to take the day before / of your dr's appt. in case they test
