I've been experimenting with DMT for some time now, but I hadn't yet had an experience that I felt warranted a report. I got it about a month ago from a friend who extracted it from mimosa hostilis. I went through several methods of smoking it but ran into too many inconsistencies with all of them, and these inconsistencies were making me too nervous to attempt a breakthrough dose. At first we tried layered between herbs, but the amount of herbs required created too much smoke for most people to deal with (all of these trials take place in a group of 2 or 3 people, so we had various lungs to consider). Next we crafted a freebase pipe using the steel wool method that many people swear by. This setup worked quite nicely, the vapor would run down into a small see through chamber so you could see how much you had left to smoke. The problem with this method is two-fold: firstly, it would often leave residue between uses so as the session progressed you might accidentally smoke more than you intended; secondly, it required a piece from my hookah, and impeded my ability to smoke hookah socially for several weeks.

It was then that I attempted changa, and became convinced of its power and significance. Changa is commonly used to refer to a smoked blend of DMT that has been saturated onto leaves that contain harmala alkaloids, but there are several blends of changa that have no such MAOI. These are on occasion called enhanced leaf, and the particular blend I made is nicknamed "Electric Sheep" over at the dmt-nexus forums. 1/2 part Calea Zacatechichi, 1/2 part blue lotus petals, 1 part DMT freebase. I made a 300mg of DMT batch, making 600mg of changa, allowing for easy weighing.

Our first attempts with this were in a hand-held pipe. I did not own a waterpipe, so that was the best we could do. The trips came on slower but were just as intense sometimes, but the method required taking several slow hits because the smoke is quite harsh. I became convinced that changa in the bong is the way to go, and I set about looking for a cheap acrylic one. I had always promised myself that the first bong I would buy would be quality medical glass, but I made this exception because the bong was purely for psychedelics (salvia and changa), although I do smoke weed out of now as well (you would too). After having not much luck online, a local headshop had a 50% off sale and I procured a nice size bong at a great price.

I had to make a new batch of changa, but in a day and a half the alcohol had evaporated and we were good to go. The first session was just me and Jamie. I loaded up a 60mg dose of changa (30mg of DMT) and gave him the waterpipe (its name is sarah palin). He immediately coughed everywhere, and acrid smoke rained out of the bong's top into the room. Changa truly smells terrible, I believe the act of burning spice is the culprit, freebase DMT doesn't exactly smell good but it doesn't smell nearly as bad as changa. It seems possible to me that the act of burning it perhaps changes it to DMT N-Oxide, or some other slightly different but active chemical, because the character of a changa trip seems entirely different at times than that of the freebase, and the potency increases. 30mg of DMT on changa is a near breakthrough. After seeing Jamie cough I tried to finish the bowl (which was 30mg initially and was half gone), and I coughed just as hard. It is really painful on the lungs while you hold it. But then I tripped at quite a decent level for perhaps 15 or 20mg of DMT. I knew that we were on to something.

My next trials came today. It is of note that before this experience I had viewed a documentary on the "tiger trade". Tigers are killed in India, trafficked through Tibet, and sold on the black market in China for thousands of dollars. Their fur, their teeth, their bones, everything. It was surprisingly horrifying and sad for national geographic.

I decided to lay out 3 x 20mg (30mg DMT total) doses on wax paper and hit them in the bong one after the other. This is where the story begins.

I nervously and easily cleared the first hit. I went to load the second and scattered it over the coffee table! Oh no! I quickly grabbed the third one and put it in the bowl as the DMT started to come on, then I cleared it and laid back in my chair. I always begin DMT trips with my eyes closed. I saw the familiar patterns start to erupt in to the back of my eyelids, but they quickly formed a tiger face, made of multicolored red and blue persian rug patterning. The face of the tiger then became a seated figure in meditation. I could not tell its gender, but I perceived it as a woman. Either this was because DMT is prone to showing people feminine entities, or because I had heard that so many times that it made me actually experience it. The persian patterning encapsulated the figure who was all black against that background. It switched between woman and tiger for a while, and thats when I decided to drop the trip "out the bottom" and open my eyes. I saw patterns on myself as usual, and I could tell that I was tripping quite hard from the OEVs. I felt tension in my arms and back and perceived tigers "through" everything. Like everything I looked at somehow seemed as if it was a tiger, or emitted a tiger-esque energy, sometimes forming tiger face. I closed my eyes again and I was in the point of view of a tiger, running through undergrowth in the jungle. I opened my eyes again and began to come down. This was the first DMT trip that I felt warranted recording. Changa in the Bonga was the way to go.

Not eager to repeat his last attempt at changa in a bong, Jamie used the bowl, and I prepared another dose. This time I split it into 2 x 25-30mg piles of changa, so it ended up being 25-30mg of DMT. I put these piles in the two bowlpieces that I own, and prepared for the trip. I cleared the first one quite easily, but the second one was slightly larger and I had to stop in the middle. As I heard a buzzing/ringing sound (which indicates an impending strong trip), I reached down and cleared the chamber of the bong and laid back. I felt part of myself let go of something, and I realized it was my fear. I just sat back in my mind and I thought "ok, where are we going." then "who is we?". I was unsure of my breathing. The depth of my chest kept feeling different, I would breathe in and my lungs would seemingly get smaller, and bigger at the same time. I closed my eyes and the patterning and colors were exquisite. I was disappointed to find that there was no theme to this voyage as there was with the tiger trip. Just endless expanses of intense patterns. I was flying through them at tremendous speed, and I kept asking the DMT what it was trying to show me. I decided maybe opening my eyes would help. Surprise, there is no difference between open eyes and closed eyes. I see what I think is my apartment but everything in it was being compressed and decompressed and torn apart into patterns. I closed my eyes again and began to fly back through space. I kept grasping for something, but the DMT wasn't giving me any information, only a picture show. Suddenly the buzzer to my apartment rang, and I opened my eyes. Jamie let some friends In and I wasn't able to communicate very well. It took about 10 minutes before I was comfortable to stand, the aftereffects lingered for a bit longer than usual.

This is likely the only way I will smoke DMT in the future. It may be slightly uncomfortable to take in enough for a full 40 or 50mg dose, but I'm confident it could be worked out, and in general the method is very successful. If you are having trouble smoking DMT and not much to work with, save yourself some time and put it on leaf. DMT freebase is definitely worth trying, but I've been finding that I much prefer the slight alteration of effects given by the combustion and possibly the normally boring constituents of the herbs, plus the required dose seems lower. Freebase DMT tends to give me smooth flowing bubbling hypnagogic imagery, the changa without fail creates things with edges, and tends to heavily trend towards the persian carpet motif. I am curious how other admixtures might effect the imagery, perhaps my next attempt will be with 10x caapi leaf to see how the MAOi plays into things. I will definitely have to be performing an extraction in the future, its just too good not to have around. I can have a full and beautiful psychedelic experience and then go on with my night 20 minutes later. DMT is ideal in every sense of the word.

A word of caution, this method unfortunately doesn't seem to work very well with the 5-MeO variety. It takes some grinding to get it to dissolve in isoproanol, and 8mg taken this way on green tea leaf produced barely a threshold experience. I hope to see more people trying this method outside of those in the nexus's changa board. Happy trails!

is 10 mg changa the same like 5 mg dmt?
i have 200 mg changa, i dont have a scale, but can i make 4 piles the almost the same amount, and it will be the same as 4 25 mg dmt doses??
