Hong Kong Scene/Drugs/Safety...!

OK so I am considering about going to Hong Kong at the end of February I haven't fully decided as of yet..

I am going because I need a break from everything and want to get away from it all and also want a holiday before I go back to UNI... Now I have been to Hong Kong before, (to Kowloon if people know much about Hong Kong). I really like it their but last time I went I went with family this time I shall be going by myself nobody else and will be doing totally different things.

I will be over their for about 1 week in total so not very long at all. While I am over their I just want to relax and hit up a few of the clubs and go shopping and get drunk every day and do some touristy things I missed out on last time.

What I am wondering about is what drug is their main drug over their and also do people get the death sentence if caught with drugs..? I am not asking for availability or anything OK.

Also do you know those Bindeez Beads things that we had over here that had to be recalled because the glue contained GHB I was wondering is GB available in shops like it is in the UK or is it just something that happened by mistake because companies find the cheapest way to produce things???

OK so another question, I have had a search at some of the night clubs over their and was wondering how safe it would be for a Caucasian Male to go out to nightclubs by themselves? Is it safe or would I attract trouble from crazy Asians? I would not go looking for trouble as I am a really nice guy and prefer to talk things over before ever throwing a punch... Also what is the scene like over their? Is it really weird and out their like some Movies show it? Or is it kinda like the scene over here?

If people could give some input into this that would be much appreciated as I will ask things as people post their comments... Sorry mods if parts of this are against the rules, if some of it is PM me and I will change it straight away to follow the rules!

Funny you should post this, as I am departing to HK in a week from tomorrow. I'm going to be there for 8 days, possibly with a day or two over in Macau. Actually staying on HK island and not Kawloon, but you know I'll be over there.

I am not planning on doing anything illeal whilst in HK, but I do plan on hitting up the clubs and checking out the electronic/rave scene. So ya, I am also curious about the HK drug scene in general, as BL dosen't have much info. on it (though searching HK as 'titles only' does yield a few threads).

It seems to be that they get a lot of meth/ampets from SE Asia (think the Thailand epademic), as well as heroin coming through China. Ecstasy pills, and drugs like K and GHB also seem to exist in the club scene.

I think their drug laws are going to be a bit more "regulated" than other asian countries (i.e. no bribes or social games), but a bit less harsh than others as well (think Singapore...). I don't think they carry out the death penalty for trafficing much anymore even, and certainly not for recreational purchase/possession. But still, not going to be like Australia either - buying drugs in HK would be pretty risky for a tourist. I know I'm not gunna do it!

Here's information as to what was seized in 2007 (lil angel 15, feel free to edit this out if it's too reflective of availability)

Vigorous efforts by the Police and the Customs have achieved considerable success. In 2007, seizures of illegal drugs included 37.36 kg of heroin, 96.41 kg of ketamine, 435.50 kg of herbal cannabis, 197.12 kg of cocaine, 40.79 kg of methylamphetamine ("ice") and a total of 65,537 ecstasy-type tablets.

As for OTC stuff, it's very controlled in HK. I think that some codeine-containing stuff is available OTC, but nothing like Xanax or anything. And no, GHB is very illegal over there (not sure about GBL). However, I was not able to find anything compact about what is and is not illegal OTC in HK, just random rumors here and there.

The scene is pretty crazy, but nowhere near the level of Tokyo. If you've ever been to some of the clubs in Brisbane that cater to Asians, it's basically like that everywhere. Nobody is going to mess with you just because you're white, and apparently the HK ladies like white guys, if you're after that thing

HK is predominantly about non-violent crime. Lots of touts (people trying to offer you good and services) that refuse to leave you alone. People will cliam to work for your hotel as security and want to check your stuff before you enter the premises, pickpockets, scams, cons, etc. If you've ever been to Bangkok, it's kind of like that. I haven't heard a lot about violent crime being any more of a problem in HK than in the sketchier parts of Australia. My flatmate was in HK this past winter as a single female and things were a bit rough for her. But ya, general street smarts and assuming that people want to scam you is what you want to proceed with.

HK is huge, exciting, beautiful...full of bargins, attractions, new experiences...you'll have a great time.

Macau is an experience I was their in September of 2007 I loved it, they seem to love their gambling over their I watched one guy put 3000 HKD into the pokies then I walked up put in HIKED and drew out HIKED then walked away and got a mad meal and drunk the night away while watching the world fireworks competition lol.

It was kind of a spare of the moment thing to go to Hong Kong lol I just think it's really easy to get around public transport their so would be easy for somebody to travel by them selves.

I have been to Bangkok as well so will keep the scammers in mind... When going clubbing do you think we would have to use our passport or can we just use out drivers license do you think...?

I'm guessing that a passport would be required. I was required to present a passport in both Singapore and Kuala Lumpur clubs (by the way, never go to Ministry of Sound Singapore - biggest letdown ever). But ya, BKK and Vietnam and such just let anybody waltz on in. But still, HK seems a bit more regulated and professional. But yes, as you say the public transport is good, so returning to a hotel room to grab a passport wouldn't be the worst thing in the world!

This is a question that you'll have to answer for yourself. Nobody here at BL is going to motivate you to do that.

Sweet yeah I'm talking about 4000AUD you really don't know how I spend my money man I have a really bad spending problem Hahaha maybe I should just take $3000 so I have some money to come home to lol. I should really cut down but their are so many nice things I want out their lol.

I've searched for a few good clubs I want to check out while over their that sound really good that are on the Hong Kong Island and I'm thinking that the hotel I stay is near these clubs as well.

If you want the links to these clubs let me know as I have saved them in my favourites. I don't really want to take my passport out with me because if I do get really messy and loose it then I'm up shit creek...

Now acid has no smell and when x-rayed just looks like paper doesn't it? So in saying this then their wouldn't really be anyway for them to detect it if I let's say put it in the sole of my shoe or in my coin pocket.... Just a theory though I dought I will do so but if I do I will definitely inform everybody lol.

Hi, I actually live in HK now. You wont need a passport to get into any clubs. there is no Rave scene at all unless a guest DJ is passing thru, Tiesto and Armin Van Buuren being examples, but this is more in summer (June, July, Aug). Clubs here are nothing like clubs back in Oz, in fact they are more Bars that have live bands (that are quite good actually). 1 Club i can recommend is Club Beijing who have great Thursday nights with guest Ministry O.S. DJ's, but it is very expensive to get in, and drinks just the same. Multi levels but tiny tiny dance floors, and again the whole set up is more like a bar than a night club.
If yr concerned about being caught with drugs, safest bet is don't carry any. Having said that, having lived here for almost 5 years, I have never seen any Police conduct body searches etc, or anyone arrested. HKG is surprisingly a very safe place to live with no obvious vice as the local Chinese Hong Kongers seem to do their illegal activities with their own kind. Again, I have hardly seen any obvious signs of this either. I'm sure it goes on, just haven't seen anything. GHB has been used to spike drinks in 1 bar in WanChai, but just keep yr drink with u if u can. Apart from that it's use is largely unknown.
HKG is a 24 hour city where people (mainly Westerners) drink heaps!! Alcohol related crime is almost non-existent as the majority local Chinese population don't drink at all. In any of the hundreds of 7-11's here you can buy beer, or Smirnoff type drinks over the counter without showing id. The 2 main party areas on Hong Kong island are Lan Kwai Fong, and Wan Chai. As for other "substances", they are around, but not anywhere like back in Oz. Have a gr8 time here!!

I will be staying in the Wan Chai district and where I have seen from maps that is where most of the major nightclubs are loacated... I remember last time I went over their I went into one of the 7-11s and saw they sold pre mixed drinks, I was like fuck yeah I'm so getting into them lol. I don't think I had to show any form of ID either and I was only 18 when I went over their or was I 19 can't recall but anyways I was younger and they definitely should of asked for ID considering I have a baby face as well...

I'd be guessing but would say Viagra would be via prescription (I imagine this is the same in Oz). As for 5-HTP, sorry, no idea.

So is it easy to get EZ testers over in Hong Kong or would it be advised to bring my own with me or would I get into a little bit of trouble for bringing that along...? Damn that sucks about the Viagra I guess I could always just go across to China and pick some up from their although they would probably be fake and wouldn't work... I think that was the case last time I went over their they were these massive diamond shaped pills and were in metallic boxes I ripped open a box in the shop and said to the person these aren't real Viagra their fake what help will they do....

Buying viagara in China and then (illegally) smuggling it into HK isn't something I think BL will want you talking about either.

As for the EZ tester, if airport security were to find that on you, you'll be fucked.

1) I have no idea for sure (you'd want to ask phase dancer), but likely the chemicals that make up the tester would be considered "dangerous" and likely 'analogues' of stuff you see on the 'DO NOT BRING ONTO AN AIRPLANE' posters. And you'd get in even more trouble if you took it AND didn't declare it. If you declared it, well then see point 2.

2) If security finds it, it's likely going to be probable cause for them to ask you a lot of questions and search you very well Not a good way to start your trip.

So to conclude, you don't want to take that on the plane with you.

Um china is the biggest country to manufacture chemicals and research chems. Seriously itd be easy to order from those companys. And GBL is legal there. Whilst living in Europe i have ordered from china several times.

Hmmm me thinks I might get some GBL and post it back home then.... Only if I happen to stumble across it though I'm not going to go out of my way to search for it!

I don't think I will take an EZ tester with me though considering it will probably leak out of it's container and for the reason that Redleader said. Being fully searched is the last thing I want especially if I do decide to take a tab or two with me...

I believe they are considered dangerous chemicals yes, on the weekend I think PD was telling me the problems that this posed for logistics in getting the testers to people around Oz.
