Tune In to The History Channel
Sunday, October 10 @ 9pm ET/PT

Adolf Hitler dreamt of creating a master race, but achieved a Holocaust--the murder of millions of Jews and those deemed physical or mental defects. But the Führer, an appalling hypochondriac, abused laxatives and suffered from stomach cramps and embarrassing flatulence. And that was just the start! When he committed suicide in 1945, the great dictator was frail with tremors and a shuffling walk--a feeble condition concealed from the world. We explore the relationship between Hitler and his personal physician, Dr. Theodore Morell. How did amphetamine abuse, Parkinson's Disease, and tertiary syphilis impact on his state of mind?

------------------------------------ > Moving To Film & TV =D

Thats been on before and was excellent , if you get a chance watch it .
;)

I saw that last night... very entertaining and very creepy as well. Could you imagine having a murderous leader who was going through amphetamine psychosis mixed with Parkinson's and God knows what other kind of disorders?

it's an interesting doco, but it's important to note that morell was not hitler's only physician; and that his 'abuse' of amphetamines was not abuse in terms of a cranker hitting the methpipe all day for three weeks, but more abuse as originated by medical instruction. hitler, towards the end of his life, was taking a number of toxic substances daily; for most info, check out:

A Bullock: Hitler and Stalin, Parallel Lives
J. Fest: Hitler
K.D. Bracher: The Origins, Structure and Consequnces of National Socialism
I Kershaw: The Hitler Myth
G Sereny: Albert Speer: His Batle with Truth (great for indepth look at hitler's inner circle)

unfortunately television cannot adequately grasp any historical issue; things are just far too complicated. but tv can be great for sparking people's imaginations - and if anyone is interested, the books above will provide real detail :)

^^^excellently put.
I am quite fond of Hitler and will def check those books out next time i go to the bookstore.

im sure crystalcallas would like the opportunity to rephrase " i am quite fond of hittler" i think :|

seuss~ what types of medical problems would ever be treated (then or now) with daily IV injections of meth?

based on that doc. it sounded like hittler was very much an addict just in a very regimented efficent germany way.

lmao@ the irony of hittler attempting to create a master race while he himself was falling apart mentally and physically while being a meth and opiate addict

^^ You wouldn't understand. It's a thing about knowing everything he did that was good, and how many things that he came up with, that are still used today. Most of the propoganda, that is used today is styled from the way he did his. Knowledge isn't bad, it's the use of such knowledge that can have malicious intent put behind it.

On Topic though, I saw the program, and was suprised to see, that all of his military mistakes were made while high. I guess he would have won the war no matter what, if he was sober, and straight. Everyone should thank the doctors for winning the war for us, because had he been in the right state of mind, he would have stepped on us, and kept going.

And he used it wrongly---hence the boring attention-grabbing "shocker" comment of saying you are fond of Hitler has no defense. If his USE of it was wrong, then that useful, but not necessarily good or evil, knowlege's application is evil and malicious.

yeah you up there get LOST

Yeah yeah yeah STFU mr 8( eyes this isnt Thoughts and Awareness. Let me rephrase that: I am not fond of HITLER in that i admire him and would like to emulate his perverse (among other) ways.....no.
What i meant was, i am a voracious reader and I am particularly fond of WORLD HISTORY which includes material related to Adolf Hitler and the National Socialist Party among many others.
THis is Film and Television , i want no biased judgments, slanderous labels or childish name calling to ensue just because i happened to say i was "fond" of HItler.
(although I AM thinking of going as HIm this coming Halloween....decisions!):X
Now you know what i mean.
Carry on!

Yeah. And due to being in less than great condition and knowing he didn't have that long left. He made the biggest mistake of opening up the second front fighting the soviets. His reason being he wanted to see a decisive victory in Europe before he passed away. They told him he only had such and such time left, and he decided to start a lot of things before they had originally planned to begin them. He got greedy, and insisted on major accomplishment attainment while he was still alive to see it.

^^psst he was a Taurus. Nothing, just the odd bit of Trivia.
LOL ;)

Red Haze You understood perfectly I see, and I was thinking about why he never thought of picking his successor. I was wondering if he knew, that no one would be able to hold the Reicht together after him. Himmler just didn't have the right attitude for people to follow him, in the same manner. He did have the intelligence though...

I won't lower my level of posting down, to make sense for anyone. Either learn to understand the styles of posting in english as it is spoken in the US, and conceptualize the topic I was discussing, or just leave it be please. Sorry for arrows. I thought I put the quote in there, but must have missed it...

Also, knowledge of what hitler was planning, and how he was going to go about is needed to understand the post as well. His intention were honest, and good, just the way he went about it weren't. That's what made him the monster he was. All of the vicious stuff he did were obviously after the days of him starting the amphetamines.
