Xanax and alcohol and weed

Hi all, if someone has been taking 2mg Xanax xr and .5 mg Xanax ir daily(xr at 8 am and ir at 12pm) then drinks 10 light beers from 6-10pm... How bad is this? It's been done almost every other day for about 5 years. Weed is random it seems and usually just a few hits while drunk. No blackouts reported, ever. Fairly safe other than alcohol issues? This person is healthy and young.

Just in case this is isn't you, then fine, but speak first person applicable. Anyway, no, it's not a good habit. Any way you look at it, your mixing benzos and alcohol. Whenever this person is done with this habit, it may be a pain to quit.

Isn't the Xanax nearly out of the system by the time alcohol is being consumed? Certainly the "feeling" is gone.

Nope not even close. Just because the feeling is gone doesn't mean the drug is. If that were true people wouldn't drop dirty half as much.

Drop dead?? I'm wondering why someone could do this so long and have almost zero impact to their life. It's odd.

xanax has the shortest half life ever but that dose and alcohol...surprised you never blacked out then again you sure did develop a tolerance
also surprised the xanax does anything for you after all these years

being healthy and young will help to some degree but when messing with alcohol and xanax they both mess with brain receptors more than anything
xanax and booze both affect the same gaba receptors
ceasing use of either one can send you into WD alcohol WD can be fatal
alcohol can also cause damage to your liver and can damage your CNS

if you ever decide to sober up i would say quit the booze first then taper off the xanax

Haha not drop dead. Drop dirty means to fail a drug test. You must have an amazing combination of tolerance and luck. Luck does run out though so just be safe.

So potentially this person could have gained such a tolerance for the Xanax that the alcohol didn't really have an effect on it? Or perhaps a tolerance of both? Does tolerance have any effect on health? Obviously someone else could take this dosage and potentially die or black out.

This person plans on lowering the alcohol consumption fairly drastically. I guess luck is huge. Maybe why some alcoholics live to 90 and people who never drink can drop dead at 50. You never know. Life's a bitch.

Everything has metabolites. You are not necessarily clear after the initial main(subjective) feelings are gone. There is complete possibility for an additive effect. Tell your friend not to lower anything like Xanax or alcohol too quickly. That is a fast way to seizures.

You have the right idea. Someone else could find themselves in danger. But just because you had nothing adverse happen yet, doesn't mean you're in the clear. Habitually mixing CNS depressants is like playing Russian Roulette.

if you have done it for 5 yrs of the same routine of that combo, for sure tolerance tends to build quickly
5 yrs of abuse and no health issues at all? consider yourself lucky
i cant see how you would get any therapeutic relief from that combo anymore

in ll seriousness you should get some professional help if you ever wanna sober up and be honest about your usage
