Bupe Will this be an option for my addiction?

Hey all,

So I have a meeting next week with addiction centre due to my recent events, have had problems in the past with weed, h (only a few times), codeine, mdma etc (used to be reckless and take a lot of diff substances) but only ever really done weed on a daily basis, have stopped all of the aforementioned drugs for the past few years but after having to come to terms with having to stop drinking on weekends at pub (was just getting out of control again as it makes my inhibitions non-existent and start going for drugs again, weed etc) Anyway I digress, so recently started taking a lot of codeine as a substitute, now I've never had a physical addiction as far as I'm aware but rather physchogical. Currently I'm using codeine 2-3 times a week (nurofen plus usually, anywhere between 10-24 tabs) I know I should cwe but I don't always have the chance, if I am going to cwe I will get cocodamols and do a cwe with them.

About a month ago I done some h after getting drunk and kinda realised it was getting a bit out of hand and can feel a pull to the ops. As stated I have first meeting next week with addiction centre. Do you think they will consider prescribing me bupe to help stop this?

As most people will know codeine is a pretty weak opiate and it's not long till the step up from it and as I've done h a few times already I know how much better it is, and unfortunately this time round I discovered Ill be able to snort it as a ROA which is making me consider starting that soon (despite IVing in the past I've only done it that way when with experienced users, won't do that myself as I don't know how and it's not easy to hide) I understand how stupid this might all sound but I can see where I'm going on the long run and feel it might be best if I would get on bupe, so would this be an option offered to me, is there any alternatives I should possibly discuss? I am also on the Ssri Zoloft 50mg/day for past ~2 months.

Edit: I've been using the codeine like this for the last few months with maybe a week break once or twice the only break from it, previously it was a once a month sort of thing for a couple months. Oh and a 30 dhc tabs split up 5-6 ea time for a few weeks, after this it became codeine 2-3 times a week

Mods if this breaks any rules please let me know and I will update accordingly!

Thanks in advance for your valued advice all!

Xoxo

It does not sound like any dose of buprenorphine for an extended period of time would be appropriate. A quick taper over 7-10 days may be necessary but it could also make it worse.

Going into a residential treatment facility or getting into an IOP program would be a better option.

I feel like deep down you might be thinking that you can "score" some suboxone because of how strong and easy it is to get ahold of large doses legally. This could be heading down a road of life long opiate addiction. Get some better options and speak with multiple addiction specialists. Taper off soon or else you could end up on suboxone or methadone for the rest of your life. I much rather taper off a codeine habit compared to a suboxone habit. If doctors could legally prescribe codeine as an ORT (opiate replacement therapy) they might do so.

Money unfortunately can be the driving factor for some prescribers of suboxone not actual recovery.

^ what dave said, you'll be trading in a pretty insubstantial habit for a really strong maintenance drug which you've already admitted you know is easily abused and will just make it even harder to get off.
but then again, the fact you're taking so much paracetamol on the days you cba to do a cwe is not something you can just overlook - it can kill you in a very horrible way.

you should consider abstinence based rehab imo, good luck mate

Cheers guys, and I don't take cocodamols when I can't cwe on those days it's nurofen, so ibuprofen.

And Yh I know bupe could be bad but I see myself starting snorting h which will be worse I'm sure but idk see what they say next week >.<

Unless you do opiates every single day and feel like you cant go on without them, don't go on bupe. You sound like your getting way too ahead of yourself, saying things like "i can see myself snorting H", which you don't even do yet. Bupe is for people who have a serious opiate/opioid addiction. Judging by your posts, you don't really have a serious addiction, and normally if you do any kind of opiate, you do codeine, not even everyday, which is one of the weakest opiates there is. Don't take bupe because you think you might want to start sniffing H, take it when you are sniffing H everyday and are sick as shit when you don't have any, and cant live life like that anymore, when you actually HAVE a problem. If you were to get on bupe, you would only make things worse! its every bit as addicting as any other full agonist opioid, for me at least and coming off of bupe is wayyy worse than codeine or even heroin ime, because bupe has such a long half-life.

Looks like you're good man.

I would say if you're not physically dependent, I wouldn't suggest taking bupe.

I'd say while your physical use doesn't put you in the league of maintenance (due to DOC and infrequency of it), I do believe the psychological aspect has quite the pull on you already. As it was hinted maybe you are drawn to maintenance as a comfort for a stronger and more regular, emerald more accepted drug routine. The longer acting aspect is beneficial in helping you curb your cravings for sure but as regular use goes you will have a much harder time coming off maintenance than what you are on now from a physical standpoint. That's not easy either so obviously quitting will be more physically tolerable if you do it now. Aside from the impression that you may be seeking an excuse to use stronger drugs more often, I don't think you should wait and develop a worse habit on H or codeine (especially as you don't find time to do a CWE when it is so vital). My concern is that the combined lack of discipline in that regard and the possibly subconscious desire to expand your drug realm is a recipe for worsening addiction in any form. I think it's silly to suggest furthering your habit before getting help though even if it is technically "upgrading" what you do now if it will prevent wreckless behavior though. My suggestion would be since you identify that you need help and fear getting worse that you do something now to get help before worse comes to call so to speak. I'd say spare yourself the agony of detoxing down the road from a maintenance program though. Have you considered counseling or meetings (NA, SMART recovery, Celebrate Recovery, etc.)? Finding a healthy habit to fill your time is highly suggested (exercise, gardening, playing a sport, following a hobby, art, etc.). Surrounding yourself with a crowd that is motivated by life not drinking/drugs is key-a club or career oriented people for example. Find out why you feel the need to use and what in life can bring you joy and fulfillment. Volunteer work for marathons or animal shelters and so on can give you a sense of accomplishment and helping others is rewarding in itself and develops character. Also prayer/meditation/mindfulness help to regain balance in life and promote disciple. These are things to gravitate towards at this point. Good luck to you and keep sharing your progress.
