Aside from absorption rate:.

What makes a given substance "feel" different for people when taken via their favoured route of administration?

Not just potency differs but also the nature of effects felt (mental as well as physical) when changing administration method,
even when you compensate by adding or subtracting x amount of milligrams to equal things out between consumption methods.

What's the actually chemistry behind having a good or "meh" or even bad experience simply depending its way into the body?

It's primarily due to the absorption rate I believe.

When you eat something it takes a lot longer to reach peak plasma level. When you are IV'ing something you peak almost instantly.

Imagine the difference between a slow gradual climb into a psychedelic experience where you are able to feel it coming in stages and are able to adjust, and an instant IV psychedelic peak where instantly you're peaking. WHAM!! No preparation, no gradual adjustment, just WHAM!

Subjectively those two experiences are going to be very, very different to anyone who has experienced both.

The shape of blood concentration curves differ depending on how a drug is administered, and the speed at which drug levels rise and fall in the bloodstream definitely plays a significant role in their subjective effects.

And certain drugs behave very differently via different routes depending on bioavailability and other factors.

With stimulants I find the effects more euphoric and less compulsive per oris, how could this be explained and can anyone relate?
