tl;dr a teen went to an ayahuasca retreat with a shady shaman who gave him an overdose, and the kid died and was buried there in Peru

How likely is death from aya?

His name was Kyle Nolan, his name was Kyle Nolan (a Fight Club joke as they buried 'Robert Paulson' in the garden).

My apologies for that.

Death is quite unlikely if it prepared conventionally using conventional ingredients. I recall one death attributed to ayahuasca was actually nicotine poisoning. Hypertensive crisis is unlikely but possible if the dosage incorrect, and aspiration from vomiting is also possible. Still, when prepared conventionally with proper monitoring there is little risk of this.

What's really shady is that in all these ayahuasca related deaths, majority of them are of people who went abroad for an experience. Don't do that, folks. Rather do an extraction at home and be safe! People get sexually assaulted, raped, killed!
