I was doing a little research on my downtime, looking at the diamorph and the diamorph HCl pages on PubChem, and then I ran across the monohydrate version of the diamorphine HCl.
I understand what a hydrated salt is (a specific number of H2O molecules for every molecule of the primary compound, monohydrate = 1x H2O for every diamorph molecule, dihydrate = 2x, etc etc). But what I can't really seem to understand is what the benefits of having heroin as a hydrated salt over the typical HCl anhydrous alternative would be.
Anyone have any input?
