Hi all, basically I went to the docs to solve a few problems, I have social and general anxiety and premature ejac, and the doc said he could nail all them birds with 1 stone,Zoloft.

So it's a small dose off 25mg for 1 week then 50mg.
Took for 4 days now and only side effect really is lack of appetite, I could happily not eat lol , but I do eat for obvious reasons just not as much as before.
And feel pretty emotionless but I think that's because I'm alone most of the time.
I plan on volunteer life guard to take up time.
And after 2 weeks or so it should balance out and see the good things?

Edit: can I take amino acids while on an ssri? So protein shakes and energy drinks?

Cheers Rob

I am on zoloft. 50mg as well. My social anxiety is better now. I noticed appetite suppression too, but my appetite went back to normal in a few days. And yes you can eat normally. Protein shakes and amino acids are no different from food.

Zoloft made me tired all the time and it made my appetite worse. It could go either way for you. I doubt you would be noticing any side effects after only four days at that small of a doseage though, it might be placebo. I stopped taking it after a year because it was making me too apathetic. SSRIs arent for me but they help some people.

Heh- when I first started sertraline HCL (Zoloft), the pdoc told me to take it at night because it would make me sleepy. Turns out that I have to take it first thing a.m. because it wires me pretty good. I haven't had to adjust dose ( in 15 years!), so that side-effect is long gone. There may be some delay in ejac, but not guaranteed. There may be some minor erectile difficulty, but nothing that you'd really notice. On the + side, my insurer will only cover4x100mg Viagra for age-related ED, but can get 50's every other day to control a med side effect.!!! ( I only really need 25).

DO NOT dry swallow sertraline!!! Incredibly caustic feeling if it gets stuck in your throat.

Unfortunately, the finest MDxx on earth will feel like methylone. Ya just can't quite get off.
Doesn't seem to squonk the tryptamines nearly as much.

Ya may take as much as a month to feel real effects. Or you could be like me, with syptomatic relief w/in 72 hours of starting the med. I've been on and off a couple times, and that's remained consistent.
Seems to compete for metabolism with a couple of other things- Certainly the sidenefil remains active for MUCH longer (24+ hours before it's really gone) when I'm also taking the sertraline.

Hope that helps.

Don't expect much from Zoloft, although the placebo effect is a powerful thing.

maybe i am sensitive to it, but i have very noticable affects with the first dose! its been a while so i don't recall the mg (but it was high i know ).... but it actually dialated my pupils, and reminded my of rolling (MILDLY). this diminished GREATLY with time. i did have a lasting symptom of auditory hallucinations from time to time and super vivid dreams. i did experience sexual dysfunctional, but I'm an opiate addict so....

all in all. the drug DID help me. i had severe anxiety and depression. i didn't feel "numb" from taking it though. it just stabilized my moods. my thoughts stopped racing. despite my side effects i would consider using it again. i did experience what they call "brain zaps" coming off though. i would only recommend taking for a few months, because you will become dependent on it. i did stop cold turkey though.

another case of "have a problem?" take an ssri!

have you tried any non pharm alternatives?
Yes I tried a lot to no avail, and since my problems have ruined relationships jobs and moving forward I. Life it's more than just a "problem"
I have one chance at staying in Australia and if this will help and give me a better life then I will take it. I'm from UK by the way.
And everyone else thanks for your input,
I was wondering why in some cases does it bring on more depression in some cases?
And seems daft but is it safe to eat bananas hahaha seeing as th contain tryptophan, no chance of serotonin syndrome from banana here and there? LOL

Sucks...

But I'm quite unorthodox when it comes to pharmacy and medicinal purposes. If I was a doctor i'd be like Dr. House, but even less orthodox...like a jew.

SSRI's are a waste of good precursors that could be used for helpful pharmaceuticals IMHO.

Well a good day today :) was with a girl and her 2 freinds usually I wouldn't cope but managed to say stuff and get a few laughs , felt good!! I had diazepam before going aswell dunno which it was but felt a lot more at ease. Hope things get better

Zoloft is one of those weird pills that's a cure-all for almost any mental disorder that people suffer from today. Personally, it helped me out significantly in 8th grade when my doctor initially put me on it for social anxiety. It worked great, but when I started drinking and using drugs it had very bad side effects, mostly nausea and insomnia for me but they vary. I don't take it anymore due to those side effects, and truthfully I'd rather drink and use drugs.

Additionally, I kind of feel Zoloft is one of those drugs that doctors just push on their patients for almost any mental ailment. The zoloft website shows nothing to do with treating Pre Ejac with Zoloft, and truthfully I don't know how it would (I guess it could be anxiety). If you drink and use drugs, tread carefully with this medication if you're going to continue to take it.

I had a similar experience. I was given Zoloft a few years ago. The first 2 days I felt this mild buzzing, sort of electricity-like feel through my body. I felt like I couldn't sit still. Day 3-6 I was WRECKED. Pupils were so dilated that I had to wear sunglasses in the supermarket. My jaw was constantly clenched and felt weird - the same kind of "weird" my jaw feels when I'm coming up on a hallucinogen. I honestly felt, for 3 solid days, the same exact feeling I get when I'm coming up on acid or mushrooms. I also couldn't sit still and felt the need to just walk or speed-walk in circles around my apartment.

After that, I was totally fine. Zoloft really helped me get through a tough spot in my life. But after a year, I felt that many of the problems causing my anxiety had been solved. I also didn't like the lack of emotion I felt on Zoloft - it made the lows of life not so low, but the highs of life not so high. So I tapered off and haven't slipped into a depressive phase since.

i had some drinks the other day (only 3) and i have 5mg of diazempam aswell that day, but i was absolutly wasted (felt like it)
and was extremly apathic exept for the feeling of sadness, guilt and regret, so i burst into tears and went home.

but as soon as my life is back on track i plan on coming off it , well if it gets better maybe not. but im scared to drink now lol

You got a drug to limit emotional range. And yes, coincidentally, it will give you a longer lasting boner.

i dunno... i guess if I'm honest, i did not experience as many emotional extremes when i was on the drug. however, i feel that's why i needed it. at times i didn't feel "myself", but i can be pretty destructive so... not a bad thing? CH- i wish i could comment on the boner thing, but alas. lol. its hard to say what was more to blame for the sexual issues: my beloved opiates or the ssri. lol. for women its more about the release than the stamina ;)

After being diagnosed with PTSD and trying several different options, Zoloft was the only drug I was prescribed that helped. I eventually went off of it after a year and a half but it helped me through a tough time when I had a lot of anxiety and issues with depression. It sounds like it works very differently for everyone, hopefully you'll find what works for you.

This is exactly the case.

ive just read that zoloft also affects dopamine inhibiter? is it safe to take l tyrosine with it? i also read that ssri deplete dopamine? i feel pretty flat the past 2 days like no emtion, i dont know if thats because im bored or because of the zoloft.

This happened to me with citalopram. A year later a friend went on Lexapro (escitalopram) and had a similar experience. She had more of the jaw and gum "rubbiness" feeling you get on the psych come up.

I was on a pretty much constant roll on citalopram for the two months that I was on it... I ended up going hypomanic however and it turned into a complete disaster. They cold-turkeyed me off of it after 60 days because I was hypomanic right about the 30 day mark and went nuts with alcohol. That was the first time I ever showed signs of alcoholism and it was bad.

Its unfortunate too because the Klonopin/Celexa combo knocked out my anxiety entirely. No panic attacks, no GAD, no social anxiety, nothing.

If I was going to try an SSRI again (you'd have a hard time convincing me), it would be Zoloft. This is for two reasons. First, it worked well for my little sister. The general consensus is that drugs that work for a family member are more likely to work better for you. Secondly, I have had a bunch of the fluoro SSRIs (Paxil, Celexa, Lexapro) and had problems with all of them. Zoloft is a chloro SSRI which may very well make a significant difference in effects. Zoloft tends to be more effective than the other SSRIs with the exception of Lexapro which I can't tolerate at all.

That said, discontinuation syndrome from SSRIs is hell and hopefully when my benzos are done, I will be able to survive without any meds. I'm going to fight for that goal.
