You sweep things under the rug
That's how I know you love me
It's in the toughness you display
In the face of adversity
And how you take control
When my thoughts are flailing wildly
Like a washing line draped with clothes
Thoughts flapping around
Scattering around the garden of my mind
By a hurricane of fear

Then you gently leave me
To pick them up
And fold them quietly

You are hard on me
That's how I know you love me
Because you know that I'm better than that
And I think it hurts you
When you try to be strong for me
Because I will shove you away
At a moment's notice
What that happens
It's usually because you struck gold
Or the truth

I am at my most vulnerable with you
Because without intent
You still see the truth
Albeit only in your subconscious
And then you rage at me
Because I cannot and will not be honest
So you cannot accuse me of lies

You only suspect the truth you know
Instinct cannot be submitted as evidence

What tricky creatures we are
And what friends we have become
We're velcro
Finely meshed together
Ripping apart at moments notice
Until something gently pulls us back together
Safe in the grasp of each other.
