THE use of dangerous so-called ‘legal highs’ will not be tolerated in Swindon. That is the warning from South Swindon MP Robert Buckland. He said he is supporting a crackdown on the problem, which has resulted in health problems in the town.

Mr Buckland, who is also a barrister specialising in criminal law and planning, said: “The target has to be the suppliers. Without them a lot of the users wouldn’t have the knowledge or the information they need to vary their drug use.”

This demonstrates a clear lack of understanding the current situation. Research chemical suppliers make every effort to NOT provide information that would any way implicate them in knowing their products are used as drugs. Tablets become pellets, smoking material becomes incense and drugs are 'research chemicals'. Nor will they provide information on request. Information is gained from the Internet or spread by word of mouth/experience.

He may be referring to the somewhat 'middle' level selling where research chemicals are packaged neatly and shop keepers give dosing advice but busting them is largely irrelevant to the big picture.

He's obviously never heard of Bluelight, Erowid and the Shroomery. To name but a few. If he really doesn't want users to have the "knowledge or the information they need to vary their drug use" then he will have to push for legislation to shut down drug forums on the Internet. Good luck with that.
