Trouble With Adderall Prescription

I hope this is in the right forum, but it looks like it.

The short story is that I am both ADHD and on Suboxone. My old Suboxone doctor decided to take me off of Adderall on a whim that I was high for a visit (I was not). Since then, I have been looking for doctors who are willing to accept the fact that I can be a former junkie and not get addicted to Adderall. Most have stereotyped me as a manipulative junkie and refuse to treat my ADHD with the one thing that has worked for it. Others have tried to give me these full battery tests that cost $1200, which I cannot afford.

I am not looking to abuse my Adderall, which is why I hope this is not against any guidelines.

Has anybody here been in the same position? I am planning to go back to school again for the first time in years and I need Adderall to function in the classroom. It is not a matter of want.

Anyways, just looking for advice on the matter, not being able to finish the book I am currently reading and being stuck in place without being treated is killing me inside, and I am a long way from being off my Suboxone.

Well firstly, unfortunately this isn't the right forum for this discussion because we don't allow drug discussion in Second Opinion. So I'm going to move this thread to Basic Drug Discussion.

Mods, please feel free to move it elsewhere :)

But before I move it, have you tried seeing a psychiatrist about your ADHD? If they ended up prescribing you Adderall they would most likely insist on seeing you for regular visits to monitor your usage, but you might have better luck with a psychiatrist rather than a regular GP. I know that would definitely be the case here in Australia.

I have to see psychiatrists, because I need the Suboxone and can only afford one doctor at a time. I have been diagnosed with ADHD as recently as 15 years old, and as early as 5. I'm 23 now, and a couple of doctors have told me that my ADHD should have gone away by now and they will not prescribe it to me.

One doctor cited cognitive impairment from Suboxone and said he would not prescribe until I weened off, then waited three months, then took a full battery type of test that usually costs over $1000. They won't give me any simple questionnaires because I am a former junkie and they are positive I could fake my way through it.

Everywhere I go I am treated as a manipulator, even when I bring documentation that I am ADHD. It is incredibly frustrating.

Sorry for self-moderating, but perhaps TDS would be better? I am not really looking at getting my Adderall from an abuse standpoint.

well were you precribed adderall before the suboxone and or before you got into opiates? If so I would think that if you show your medical records/history to a doctor they should see that you are not lying. Your doc should have a release form.

that should show them (if your doctor(s) took good enough notes) that you did not deviate from how long the precriptions should have lasted you. That should eliminate the junky factor in their heads.Even some people with ADHD like myself deviate from how long these scripts should last, albeit only 1-3 days.

Doing this seems to even work on the more ignorant doctors. Other than that I would certainly recommend going to a psychiatrist over a gp. At least from my experience GPs are more stiff about this stuff.

Also I must say that if a doctor ever says "your adhd should have gone away by now"they shouldn't be a doctor and I would applaud you for now laughing hysterically in their face while walking out. Adults have adhd too.

Appreciate the response. For a while there I didn't think I was going to get one.

I haven't seen a doctor for a couple of weeks (I had enough extra Suboxone from the times I have cut down to last me a month).

But, yeah, I have showed my doctors documentation stating that I had ADHD as late as 15 years old, and the doctor had the balls to say he saw nothing there that said I was ADHD. This next sentence will blow your mind, but even when I showed him several quotes saying I was ADHD he said he saw no clear reference.

When I finally convinced him the reference was indeed there, he said I needed to undergo a new full battery test, because the test is over 5 years old. When I learned the price, I basically told him to fuck off.

I was prescribed Adderall by this very doctor for years before he decided to change his mind, on a whim. I believe it stemmed from him thinking I was high on one of my visits, which I definitely was not.

Since then I have been to two other doctors, one in which I tried the honest approach (telling him my problems with my old doctor). This second doctor was the wacked out psychoanalyst who I believe thinks that ADHD stems from psychological causes.

As an example, as part of his "treatment", when I explained to him that I space out watching movies or reading books he wanted to know what I was thinking of when I spaced out. It was a what the fuck question to me. Never see a psychoanalyst, I suppose. He was a nice guy, but you gotta keep up with the times. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy is where it's at.

I saw a third doctor, but he was way too thorough for my tastes. Constant drug tests, random pill counts, visits with family members. It wasn't going to work for me. If I get a migraine (I get one or two a year) I take opiates. I don't want that to be viewed as a relapse. Also, I do smoke weed on occasion and in my opinion that has nothing to do with sobriety on opiates.

Anyways, I'm still looking around. Any other suggestions would still be appreciated.

thats bullshit, i been on suboxone for 3 years, i never had a problem filling a 3 month supply of dexedrine, adderall, fillin klonopin from sub doc at a pharmacy, filling kpin from another doc at diff pharmacy , filling xanax at other pharmacy, the only time they should fuck with you/deny you a script is if you try to fill any opioids while on suboxone, im a red flagged addict to doctors, they know and still give me Adderall 30mg XR-currently/Suboxone 2.5 daily, Klonopin 1mg 3x daily, Fioronal(barbiurate med) i go to my primary for meds, fuck psychiatrists they mostly r strict assholes. i dont see MD physicians either, my luck they always refer me to a specialist for a problem, so i see a D.O. (Whatever type of physician that is?) in the same office as my MD and i literally asked for adderall and i got it, asked for xanax got it, swtiched to klonopin 1mg now, next week im seeing the OTHER D.O. gonna say kpin 1m 3x isnt working ill go back to xanax .5 4x/daily except if i may go to the 1mg increase, im sure he will

First let me say I'm sorry you are having a difficult time getting treatment. It never ceases to amaze me that in this day and age people still have to beg to get sufficient health care.

Do you have insurance? Most major insurance companies have a number you can call to get some guidance on finding a doctor for your specific situation. I found my GP this way, and he treats my depression/anxiety and rx's me my pain meds. I met a few people that also say he treats addiction. Unfortunately in these types of situations it takes a good bit of research before you find a good fit. Don't give up! Good luck. :)

My Suboxone doctor told me to go off my Adderall because he said since it has abuse potential I'll relapse if I stay on it. My psychiatrist has me on it but my Suboxone doctor started giving me drug tests to make sure that I was off it. So I'd go off it for 4 days before taking the drug test so it doesn't show up. He still gives me drug tests for it from time to time and I just do the same thing. It is bullshit, just because it can be abused means that I'm going to relapse??? Well anyway, I told him that I switched to Provigil for my ADHD.

Alll i gotta say is fuck most psychiatrist.....im going to a phd tomorrow and am almost going tobe in w/d if i am givin no help and will have no choice but to purchase illegally.....it pisses me off....i hate the way im treated....8)

just say that you cant focus at all, be very adhd at the appiontments so he really believes you need them.
thats what i did and i got adderall, vyvanse, and kpins

Drs label everyone once there is anything unsual. I'm bipolar and everytime I see a dr and tell them the meds I'm on they assume I'm a nut and won't control myself. I know this idea is funky but if you can I would find a psych dr and lie about being on subs. Its sucks but it might be the only way.

I wish I could lie about being on subs and see two doctors, but I cannot afford it.

One thing that goes away from my favor is that I am always very twitchy because of a mild case of Tourrettes, and these assholes always think that I am high. I also have high looking eyes all the time. When I was 13, everybody thought I was a pothead even though I had never smoked before.

My next stop is to call the local pain clinic (they have a Suboxone program), I live in South Florida and a lot of those motherfuckers are corrupt as hell. I'm done looking for legit doctors.

Its not the simple with a Suboxone doctor that is dead set on not prescribing ADHD meds. They won't change their mind and often don't give a shit about your problems with the exception of treating you with Suboxone. Telling a Suboxone doctor like this that you simply can't focus and look like your ADHD will just ignore it like mine did. At the "most" you'll get some non addicting/non stimulant medication.

I have to see two doctors. My psychiatrist prescribes my Desoxyn and Bup doctor the Suboxone. My Bupe doctor would never give me anything other than Seroquel for sleep or maybe Flexeril for muscle pains. Disgusting.

quit one or the other. Look, when I was on adderall and suboxone; I was always high from the combination. It may sound fun, but it was not. I can't even really remember that period of my life.

they both act on dopamine receptors... My doc used to prescribe both. And there was a time when I was seeing one doctor for suboxone therapy and one psychiatrist for ADHD.

IF you decide to do both, maybe see two doctors. Or go "doctor shopping" (as its called) until you find a doctor to fit your needs. I

P.S If you have tourettes... most docs will NOT prescribe adderall.. as it makes these symptoms (twitchiness) worse.

Suboxone actually made a difference with the effects of your Adderall? How come it didn't for me?

I don't ever tell doctors about my Tourrettes for that very reason. Stimulants increase tics. It has also faded more and more. It peaked when I was 12, and my tics have decreased ever since.

My Suboxone makes my Adderall a lot more tolerable. It reduces a lot of the negative side effects. On rare occasions, I go on binges for a couple of days, stopping when I begin to notice bugs are on my skin or other psychosis like symptoms, as I've thrown myself into amphetamine psychosis a few times before and it is not cool.

I only binge when I have a purpose to do so. I don't find stimulants like Adderall or cocaine very euphoric, so it is never purely recreational. As an example of the type of activity I will binge for, I will use my most common: reading. I love to read, but without Adderall some books become very difficult. I can read Palahniuk or Iain Banks all day while off my medication, but when it comes to Dostoyevsky or Pynchon reading becomes impossible after 200 pages. It is then that I take my Adderall off label in order to zip through a book.

As an example of how effective it is, I read "The Brothers Karamazov" in 4 days on Adderall. Without it, god knows if I ever would have finished it or how long it would have taken without it.

I never take my Adderall every day (the thought makes me cringe) and when I am in school I take my Adderall XR as prescribed for studying, concentration and tests (you can't binge while in college, I would hate to go to class half-way into psychosis and sweating out ammonia). I suppose I usually take it 4 times a week unless it is midterm or finals time. I would not be able to make it through college without it.

^I read "Crime and Punishment" by Dostoevsky whiles on adderall in high school . . in about 2 days on adderall.. without the adderall it would have truly been "crime and punishment" lol
