Tolerance to Ambien/Alternatives

Every few months I become tolerant to the sleep inducing effects of Ambien.

My doctor has tried me on a few different medications to give me a "Break" from Ambien.

We tried Trazodone which gave me a 4 hour long erection.

We debated another Z Drug but figured there would be too heavy a cross tolerance for it to be beneficial.

We have tried antihistamines which mostly make me crawl out of my skin.

Melatonin has shown slightly better than placebo effects. Not really helping me sleep but better than nothing.

Most recently was Belsomra, which unfortunately had no effect on my sleep.

I also take Xanax (same doc) but the Xanax is PRN and I try not to take it every day...Hypothetically if it worked for sleep I would use it but I find it only helps with my anxiety and not my sleep.

Is there anything out there that could help me sleep just for a few weeks to break the ambien tolerance cycle? I suppose I could just pose this question the same way to my doc but I thought I'd get some input.

I've had the same issues. My Dr put me on Quitepine (Seroquel). I'm on 25 mgs and it works like a charm. Good luck.
