The word "You" in songwriting and poetry

I am generally thinking about a certain person when I say 'you' but I always try and make it impersonal, so that the reader can identify with it and think of their own 'you' if that makes sense. I try not to include many personal memories in poetry that I make public because I don't want to alienate my reader. Personal writing though is a totally different kettle of fish...as is erotic writing..

im an adult but all the acid makes me love old school shit, but check out this greenday interview hes talking about how all these songs are about this chick he hates and other times says its him

i had this buddy who i had a band with as kids and hed write all the songs about everyone we knew. holy fuck that shit is only starting to hit the fan now....
