the way people treat users is unacceptable, atleast in the mental health system im in and in the community im in i get treated like shit
my psychiatrist talks at me like im not human, like im just another parasite in the system
at my last school people found out about my substance use and it was all i heard for the last few months there, i cant tell you how many times i got harassed for this shit
ive been in psychiatric wards a multitude of times and each time was more insufferable than the last
its very hard to manage my use when i hear about it all the time from these pricks, i also hear about it from my parents but they actually care, they dont treat me like shit, they dont annoy me, they are good people, is that so hard for some of these people, they dont even have to make eye contact they just need to not talk to me about my struggles in an insulting way like im some animal in a zoo that people can annoy
i know these sentences strung out together are probably very repetitive and hopefully i got my point across i just cant live my life in this world anymore

I’m sorry you are being treated like this, it’s unacceptable. It sounds like your parents care about you though. I hope you can find the strength to get through this. You are young and have your whole life ahead of you still. Don’t make any rash decisions.

Can you find someone you trust to talk to? Do you think it would help to tell your story here? You can share as much or as little as you like. Many on here have been through similar situations and may have some insight. There are people who do care about you.

Drug users are the ultimate minority.

It's still legal to discriminate & jail drug users, shame them, shun them from society, deny them housing, jobs, etc...

The government propaganda has done it's job conditioning people to hate drug users.

Just look at social media. Any time a video of an obvious person with mental illness gets posted, the first comments are always "crackhead", etc..

We live in a disgusting hypocritical world.

The Harrison Narcotics Tax Act and 1937 Marihuana Tax Act used taxes to functionally criminalize drugs saying so directly, these laws required impossible paperwork, imposed prohibition taxes and criminalized noncompliance rather than the drug itself

Before the 1906 pure food and drug act, drug use in the US was widespread, socially normalized, and largely unregulated. People bought opium, morphine, cocaine, and cannabis in patent medicines, by mail order. and over-the-counter, most users were ordinary citizens treating pain , fatigue, or illnesses-not "drug users" in the modern sense of the term.

Drug use was normalized by medical doctors prescribing opiates and cocaine as legitimate medicines, not social threats. There was no federal controls on drug purity, labeling, or sales until 1906. Earlier state "poison laws" existed but were inconsistently enforced.

Aggressive advertising portrayed narcotic containing products as safe, modern and scientific. Social framing viewed drug dependence as a medical or personal issue, not a criminal one. Criminalization came later with the 1909 Opium Exclusion Act and the 1914 Harrison Act.

1914-1930s Harrison Act was the birth of criminal control. Key point was to turn health/commerce issue into a quasi-criminal one through tax and paperwork. The Harrison Narcotics Tax Act was framed as a tax-registration law on opiates and cocaine, but enforced in ways that criminalized non-compliant doctors, pharmacists, and users. It required registration, special forms, and strict record-keeping; noncompliance became a federal offense.

Courts closed the medical escape hatch; decisions like Webb v. United States interpreted the Act to prohibit prescribing narcotics simply to maintain an addiction, effectively criminalizing maintenance treatment and pushing dependent people toward illicit markets.

There is more to the OP reasoning to the unacceptable behavior and treatment of people with a history of drug use

easy socially acceptable target for budget cuts plays a massive factor IMHO.

which frankly is fucking stupid when you consider the cost of mental health support versus the cost of dealing with the fallout of providing no support.

what a shit society we live in when we don't help those most in need

Agreed. People treat and talk to/about addicts in pretty much the same way they would talk about a murderer or a rapist.

It's often people with serious vices of their own, too. I remember once this couple walking past saw me in an alley snort something (which, fair enough, I could have been a little more discrete, but I DID duck into an alley and was homeless at the time). And the guy turned to his (wife?) and said "Druggies fucking digust me". He was maybe 350lbs and was smoking a cigarette. You can't make this shit up. The lack of self-awareness was staggering.

I think society in general could do with having a great deal morre empathy for ALL people, not just those that align with your person moral values or opinions.

we are all parasites. exploiting, using, and consuming other living things to survive. life is a disgusting institution

this attitude from them really changes as if you gain status professionally, especially if it’s in the life sciences and it’s clear to everyone in the room you know way more than the doctor does. it’s what i’ve witnessed over the last 20 years.

also i don’t have anywhere near that kind of money, but if they are being retained and paid in cash they are nice …but the outcomes aren’t much better.

but it’s not like they can help you any better regardless of if they are nice or not….amd that’s what really matters right? i’d let them shit in my mouth if they could fix me.

the tools psychiatrists have are equivalent to a caveman banging rocks and sticks together when it comes to tackling mental illness and addiction.

there’s honestly not much they can do. this is an incurable diseases and all they have at their disposal is medications which are a bandaid if they even work whatsoever and they very often do not.

so it’s natural for them to sort of get angry because they are helpless and it’s sort of seen as an affront against them by the patient like “why can’t you fix me?”

when everyone in the room realizes there is no fixing any of this it’s a little bit of a different dynamic. the doctor doesn’t feel assaulted by the patient when the patient knows and makes it clear that medicine has limits and we can’t do shit about the problem.

a doctor will never admit they don’t know what the problem is or how to fix it to most patients until there is a long history and trust there. they’ll just make up bullshit that makes you think they can help but they can’t.

it’s the ones that you develop and strong mutual respect with that will tell you there’s not much they can do. but they also say that to patients just to dump them if they have an influx of new more profitable patient populations (this is for the US)

havnt you seen how the great elon musk and joe rogan; known addicts of ketamine, steroids, amphetamines, weed,

are glorified and worshipped?

depends who you are?

K addict that is an honest working mechanic? scumbang
K addict that is a rich criminal scumbag nazi? worshipped

they had a story on Fox News yesterday about Jordan Perersons benzo addiction long term withdrawal. all the comments were so sympathetic. if any of those ppl had the chance to get away with it they’d murder a weed addict for fun.

addiction is just an excuse to hate ppl but if you admire them it doesn’t really seem to make ppl look down on them

That (the worshipping of sociopaths and pathological idiots) seems to be a weird American phenomenon.
Someone was telling several months back* someone was telling me that Joe Rogan was the most popular/listen to podcast and I honestly don't know if I find that more depressing of terrofying. It's the epitome of this seeming "Anti-inltellectualism" movement going on there right now. Which makes ME feel dumb because I don't understand it. Like, apparently, a lot of Americans think that being uneducated is, like, rebellion or being he opposite of brainwashed? But literally one of the main ways that popultions are kept ignorant/controlled/oppressed is via being denying education and information. So...it's the opposite of what they THINK they're doing?
I think capitalism is a lot to blame, too. Musk if worshipped by some Americans because he's the richest man in the world. Never mind that he's ignorant nazi and actually - despite the "genius" claims - kind of an idiot - he's RICH.
Same with Trump. Money/power means so many people are willing to overlook the fact that he's a psychopath, a felon, a rapist (a CONVICTED rapist) and a pedophile.

I don't know much about Jordon Peterson apart from back when YouTube shorts first started and it skewed weird right-wing content to EVERYONE at first, I saw vids of him being a weirdo about trans people. Like, he was "reacting" to a video where this transman was talking about how much better his life and mental health were since he had started Testosterone and how happy he was with the results etc and then Jordon was watching it and he started crying and saying like "this poor girl has destroyed her body with male hormones"...and it was BIZZARE...'cause I was like "....did we watch the same video?". His crying seemed legit so I didn't get the impression he was the usual asshole right-wing grifter...just very ignorant and misinformed :/
I DO feel bad for him (anyone) that has gone through benzo withdrawal, though, especially the long-term kind. It's hell. I remember after Xanax, it took about 6 months before I could sleep right and stopped having these sudden horrible "waves" of anxiety where I'd suddenly feel really hot and sick and panicky etc. And I've heard it can even last like 2 years for some people.

I'd maybe add that Clavicular dude to the list (if you don't know who that is, I'm jealous). He's a drug addict with body dysmorphia and ZERO personality but all of a sudden became like the most watched streamer. Even after literally ODing while streaming.

But GENERALLY, "regular people" who are addicts are usually treated like absolute shit.

*I have Schizophrenia that severely affects my time perception, so when I say "several months" that could actually be like 4 weeks or 6 years

yea hating the educated is a big thing here.

our media and especially the tech billionaires are all making this giant media push for the last few years that no kids should go to university, it’s a waste of time, even STEM. all the kids should enter the trades instead. i think they just want more justification to import indian and chinese scientists and engineers and underpay them

joe rogan is the most watched and idolized media in the US. i’ve met high school kids more intelligent and based on reality.

yea it really makes me sick about america is how males in our culture need a “daddy” or “role model”. it’s definitely a big thing here.

an odd site note is that i never had an idol or role model growing up my whole life. can’t recall my entire youth ever looking up to someone. even my dad who was a solid dad. maybe alexander shulgin was probably the most but i was old by then

yea there’s the guy that was the cash app founder that was a major drug addict that was murdered during an all night drug binge everyone loved and idolized him in silicon valley before.

matthew perry kill’s himself by ODing on suboxone and ketamine in a hot tub and suddenly it’s nice memorials and a mad witch hunt to find the doctors that forced him to take drugs (they just sentenced one to 15 years). like immediately blame the suppliers for killing the innocent little beloved matthew perry who made no choices for himself

i’m curious to see clavicular play out. amphetamines and steroids reminds me of zyzz and he died in his 20s from it i believe

what it really is is a hatred of poor people.

Some deem themselves " holier than thou" & forget they're a human with faults like everybody is. Some faults happen in different areas, nobody is better than anyone else.
I have been victim of this as well.
It is frustrating & it can seem like there is no recourse. But their day will come & it always does where they get the shit end of the stick. Keep your head up & try not to let it truly brother you if you can.
I hope you find the answers you need & get those here who support you to help you feel a bit better. I've been having a few bad days recently but I'm trying to hang in there, hope you do the same!

Take care now,

I will always to keep rich and take drug ,so we are superior than them

i dont see any real solution for it besides only interacting with other people who prioritize hiding their drugs. i don't need any guff from any squares.

Look after yourself; none of these situations in media/pop-media/pop-politics, holds any merit in terms of humanity.

...it's much more simple (especially in terms of celebs/talking heads) ...it's about polarising the plebs (i.e. "you" or, "me") into market favour, by your left/right-wing stance; it's a game - you are the victim (like us all)- that's all you need to know - it's a contrived game poised as a "fun circus" for what elites see as "plebs" i.e. we are pawns, to adhere to market profits ( left/right leaning - doesn't matter (they hedge their bets regarding trends that look favourable; so, if that's something/some ideology that can be inflamed & boost profits in a market (e.g. Pharma, (whatever the..)NGO Inc (that will boost marketing - mostly now based in race)gender)- that will trend). Think, magnets in Subbuteo.

Live your life. Keep all social ideology at bay/with a large, "pinch of salt". Find genuine people. Live. 💜

Definitely agree about finding "genuine" people, but it feels like something incredibly hard to do these days. It feels like nobody is just real and open and honest anymore.

The stigma around drug use is still bad and can be particularly bad for IV users. I fucking hate having to have my feet and arms covered year-round, whether at work, at home, or out and about. But what I hate even more is having to do a little spiel any time I'm getting blood tests or other medical treatment which involves taking some clothes off. I've come to just give a little pre-warning to medical staff: "Just letting you know that you're going to see some track marks from drug use. I am getting treatment currently." Most of them are OK and just say 'yep OK' and get on with it, but there's often a shift in tone and treatment towards me. They also have to struggle to find a decent vein - that part they are justified to be irritated about!

Look after yourself; none of these situations in media/pop-media/pop-politics, holds any merit in terms of humanity.

That was a great post, Asclepius. Very well said.

Clavicular reminds me of a proto-Patrick Bateman. The emptiness under the perfect surface sheen. What an appropriate figure for social media:cool:
