Bluelight has been such a personally satisfying thing. I have seen so many people come to the board then leave 6 months, or 1 year or more later, knowing that each one has taken away something which may help them or their friends. It's all so very positive; encouraging people to openly discuss drug use and how these chemicals affect the body and mind. When I grew up in the seventies in NZ, many things were never discussed. Anyone who dared mention drugs outside of their tightly closed circle was banished or worse. No-one trusted anyone, at least that was the trend. Parents
didn't want to hear, probably due to a combination of the social norm at the time, coupled with the law and the types of drugs around. Like most who grew up at that time, I saw this isolated and closed way of life take casualties. To most who were teenagers of the late 70's, it might not seem any better today, but I believe user endorsement of successful prevention strategies is significantly better. Many life saving interventions occur because people have less fear of accepting, or referring to emergency personnel.
All a product of communication - and trust. The hard work of academics and campaigners -often considered social dissidants or worse - spread over more than 3 decades, has made things different today. The perspective of what they have acheived is hardly recognised in todays society. But in the future when these draconian laws regarding use have disappeared as a result of social evolution, these people will be the hero's, much like how those who've fought for womens rights, gay rights and anti-rasicm have become.
There are times when I've thought about posting elsewhere more often, but BL- particularly AANZMEDD - has a great collection of regular and changing posters and I like the board ethic. It's information based and rarely lost for defining its position on tricky issues. The people I've looked up to on this board are many, too many to list. Some like the present mods here, superbabydoc in Health Q & A, Pleo and JB, Biscuit, fairnymph, Tarsarlan, Mr Horse, Pinger, Samadhi & entropope to name a few, have all made fantastic contributions. Some have been long gone, others still make the odd appearance. Contributions to BL are many and varied. Opinions with facts, discussions and disagreements. Many mysteries are unveiled. Some will always remain, while some like the question marks (and more recently durex safe sex) have been answered ~1 year later - (
to Biscuit).
As online and offline resources continue to improve, BL is set to step more into the public spotlight. Like it or not, when something has this much to offer, it becomes impossible (and unethical) to not open the doors to wider audiences. The tightly run ship that is Capt. BT's Aus. Drug Discussion will have no problems defending
the inevitable critisism which will likely come once BL drug discussion is fully up on google
Bluelight can offer direction, prevent catastrophe, help connect those who feel they are black sheep in their world, or simply offer a good reference for checking a new drug or trend. Fuck Yeah! gimme more of that
Thank you all. I've certainly felt warm & fuzzy
