Megathread The OFFICAL Anime Appreciation Megathread! vers Moshi Moshi

Not at all. I tried to get into that a long time ago and I thought it was just stupid. I felt like I was supposed to like it, but it's a fuckin cartoon. Maybe back in 3rd grade it would have been "cool."

There must be something wrong with you.

I get laid all the time because of my fondness of magna and anime.

PS. Hehe yeah, Hentai. That stuff is such a turn on, in an extra crude and deviant way. Cartoon porn....heh.

evangelion. best anime ever.

i'm getting out of anime though. manga is where its at these days :) <3 Clamp

cowboy bebop. i like it a lot.

I was just about to post that.

Haven't seen that show in forever. I LOVED it.

I am a big fan of certain styles of anime, but other stuff just doesn't do it for me. In Japan families actually watch tv together so they make anime for all ages/genders.

My favorites are Cowboy Bebop, Naruto, Samurai Champloo, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Lain. As far as movies Mizyaki's later films like Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke, plus the classic Akira (watched that DVD at least 20 times, more than half of those times on acid), Bloodlust, Grave of the Fireflies, and probably more I've forgot.

If you're a Bebop fan check out Samurai Champloo. It's from the same creator and stylistically is similar, but it takes place in feudal Japan. Also, if you want something of the same general genre as Dragonball Z that isn't quite so cheesy and slowly paced check out Naruto. It's a show about a sort of ninja academy and the students there who grow up to be assassins and soldiers. Good stuff.

No, there's nothing wrong with me. If you would have asked me 15 years ago when I was 12 I might have thought it was neat. Besides, every one that I've seen scenes from looks the same.

It's like that strongbad email; anime characters all have big oversized eyes, blue hair, etc.

I have every cowboy bebop episode, seen them all at least 3 times, probably more, also seen the movie twice. I am a HUGE cowboy bebop fan. Subtitled japanese>american VO btw.

I'm a fan of Akira, the movie, although the manga is better... FLCL is really interesting also. Bebop is definately my favorite though, probably my favorite tv show of all time, cartoon or otherwise. The original dragonball was great, didn't like z or gt as much at all.

i absolutely agree. the original dragonball was so much more entertaining. i think dbz is too much drama, and not enough fighting action.

Mostly Robotech for me. Ghost in the Shell. Innocence was better than I thought it would be (it tended to get bogged down with philosophy...I didn't really understand the argument)...and an english dub would have helped I think
(some of the characters weren't Asian) or at least to know a little Japanese to understand the nuisances of what they were saying (Das Boot is a lot like that)

What was up with Princess Monoke? That was a really weird film (it didn't make rational sense...it sort of seemed a lot like a pseudo folk religion playing out before you eyes). Not that it is supposed to make rational sense...nice to have good voice acting though.

Akira was ok. I think the ending was similar to this grand epic weirdness the Japanese like to do in anime.

Berserk -->> if you want to have your senses pulled out of your ass and handed back to you 2 or 3 days later, watch the entire series alone in one night. acid? forget about it

Gungrave

also IMHO as a stand alone AKIRA is the sickest thing to have ever been animated.

skjalff

I have been watching the ghost in the shell : stand alone complex episodes. Beautiful, truly beautiful. I love their storylines and artwork, it *almost* rivals bebop or trigun. I don't understand why other people seem to dislike this series, it's more then I could have asked for...

^^Totally agree...anime at its best...
wana really watch Full Metal Alchemist!

To be fair, they had to remove an entire book because they where short on time. The ending isn't supposed to make sense, they didn't go through everything that the book did--it was an admittedly condensed version. No one should feel bad that they found it confusing, or convoluted.

Also, I can't stand Dragon Ball Z, yes even the subtitled japanese version. It's the same story over and over and over... Dragon Ball at least was cute, and there was somewhat of a plot.

It goes something like this: Bad guy arives! Everyone must band together or the universe/planet will be destroyed! They fight and it takes 20 shows as they power up and wait for Goku (who is training) to come save the day! 50 more show and Goku saves the day by transforming into super sayan, yay! But wait no the bad guy is not defeated, let us fuse two characters! repeat ad infinitum, yuck. You guys that like this know your watching a kung-fu soap-opera right?

Oh and that cowboy bebop petition is worthless. The creators of the show ended it for a reason, they had already did all they wanted with the show and the characters. (Warning, spoiler) They thought about ending it with Spike being miraculously saved at the end, but rather than beat a dead horse, they gave him a decent; honorable death scene and a good ending to the series. If it continued on-and-on it would have gotten stale.

1--yeah... the entire manga was thousands of pages, there's no way time wise to get all of it in... for me akira the film isn't about the story at all... I focus my attention on the beautiful atmosphere and seeing the manga come to life, which it does imo pretty well.

2--I agree with your whole statement here. DBZ was ok but drug ass and the characters werent half as dynamic as the ones in dbz (even though a lot of them are the same characters :p). Young goku in dragonball was one of the most loveable characters I've ever seen in any cartoon... It was a very good show on many levels, and extremely original.

3--Although it was sad to see only 26 episodes, it was still hours and hours of some of the best anime in the world. I'll paraphrase and reiterate what you said; "It's better to burn out than fade away."

:) :)
nice to see some good replies to this topic.

[edit: I'm getting episodes 1-13 of lain right now... Is that every episode? Also, if somebody could give me some basic information on the series I'd appreciate it... I don't know anything about it :)]

I disagree. Dragon Ball was great, but I find Dragon Ball Z to be more spectacular. The only thing better about DB was IMO the story line, nothing else.

futura: yeah, lain is only 13 eps. and if i told you any of the story, it'd ruin the fun ;)

upon recieving my season 2 dvd set of rurouni kenshin tv, i am falling in love with it all over again <3

and pingpong club is one of the funniest shows ever made . <-- PERIOD

EBICHU !!! I almost forgot how funny this shit is.. In fact I'm gunna post a topic ;)

I really really enjoyed Lain, and Hellsing. Since it was one of my friends who recommended those two, I think I might trust his Cowboy Bebop joy (especially as people keep comparing Firefly to CB).

*grin* Anime is just a medium, no better or worse than any other.
